Good morning my Mumpers. That was a most excellent MMP OP Swampy. This the first place I come after checking all my e-mails. You guys are a wonderful touch stone and having been the recipient of much care and concern earlier this year, I can attest to what big hearts you all have.
So today I shall take the rig to get the oil changed, do laundry, pack, and charge the camcorder and camera batteries.
The weather is beautiful today too.
We spent a lot of money at Costco yesterday. On the other hand, we’ve got meals for a good long time, so in the end, it’ll be cheaper than going out for dinner.
In fact, I should take some meat out of the freezer so it’s defrosted for tonight’s meal. Okay, that’s done. Ribeyes are out.
MBG, check in here if you get a chance and let us know what they find out!
Hugs and smooches to all.
Holy crap, Li-Li! Hang in there. It would be nice if your BiL could get the kids out of that place.
That’s basically what I do. but there’s very little sauce that remains. I’ve tried tossing, then baking some more to try drying the sauce onto the wing, even.
I must be getting parts from teflon coated chickens.
Do you put the sauce on right when they come out of the oven, while they’re hot? Waiting until they’re cool might make the sauce come off. Otherwise… dunno.
Sorry about the in-laws, LiLi. What exactly did BIL see in her before he married her??
Now I’m all impatient waiting for Swampy to answer the question. Hope he gets back soon.
I’m an MMP lurker (A murker?). Always read 'em. Barely ever post (can’t remember but this may be my first time. Be gentle with me) but if I read the rules right I can be a Mumper now, right?
Bobbio, the best Buffalo wings I’ve ever had were the deep fried ones, there’s something about the crackly skin that bonds to the sauce, mmmmm… with bleu cheese dressing, ggghrrghhsll [/Homer] I use good old Louisiana hot sauce and butter, half & half, I think it’s stickier than Frank’s.
Lakeisha survived her trip to the vet on Saturday, even though she wailed like one of the damned when I finally got her in her carrier. She needs dental work, which will be another $500. In a couple of months, maybe. Skunk was running a low fever all weekend, but he seems to be feeling better now. He finally starting eating again on Saturday night, and has been purring and cuddling. They even got in a fight last night, which was a relief - everything’s back to normal. (For now. I’m trying hard not to think long term.)
I have spent the morning allocating my p-card (like a corporate credit card, except the firm pays the bill for me) purchases and trying to reformat our table tents. Our new logo takes up a **lot ** of real estate, plus the name has to be aligned just so in relation to the logo. I can’t get mail merge to print both sides of the tent and then go to the next record, it always skips to the **2nd ** record. What fun.
FCM, we have leftover Valentine’s chocolate. You want me to push some through the DVD drive?
Lili, what’s a walker and why are they illegal?
I have been reading an excellent book, The Mindful Way through Depression. I have found it very helpful in explaining what is going on both in mind & body. I’ve read about a jillion books on depression, but I really like this one.
In slightly happier cooking news, yesterday I did all the baking of the cakes necessary to make the rabid beaver for the rescue squad dinner tonight.
VWife is doing the decorating now, and I have been ordered to stop and buy more chocolate frosting to make the beaver fur. I have not yet seen the creation, but it is reportedly going well except for the shortage of icing.
I will take pictures of the [del]monstrosity[/del] magnum opus when complete.
Walkers are like… Hmm. Do you know what a Dalek looks like? They’re something like an upside-down laundry basket with a seat in the middle and wheels on the bottom edges. They’re for pre-walking babies who want to move around. They’re illegal now (and have been for some years) because it’s very very easy for kids to fall down stairs, different levels, etc. in them. There have been a number of deaths.
What he saw in her is sort of a mystery, although there’s a family belief that she got pregnant in order to make him marry her. Which he did.
Driving and Lazy Husbands have just arrived. Love you all. Thank you for letting me vent.
Howdy Y’all! I’ve been in cleanup mode since I got back to da cave. I’m on a break right now and then I’ll finish the livin’ room and mop the floors and be done.
Ok, answer to the big question.
When ol’ y’all know who and I got together (we already kinda knew each other before this), we both had (still have) houses. His is one of those Craftsman style homes and mine is well, your basic ranch style. Thus, we have houses that are full of furniture and stuff. One of these days we may well decide that if we’re gonna stay together we should live together. That will necessitate selling one or both of the houses. Sell one and whoever sells moves in the one we keep or sell both and buy sump’n else. That’ll probably be what happens if we stay together and are gettin’ to retirement time. One of the things we agree on, whatever we do, is that both of us pretty much want a condo if we ever do move again.
So, we each already had a house and haven’t decided when or if we’ll consolidate into one house.
My kids loved their walker. They are no longer sold. And a good thing, too–not only did they fall down the stairs, it turns out, they worked the wrong set of muscles for walking and balance. All that said, that walker saved my sanity many a day. (I have no open stairs that lead down in the house, so that danger wasn’t present).
I notice they don’t sell play pens, either–another sanity saving device gone the way of helicopter parenting… I pity new moms these days–when do they get a minute? (I didn’t get much more than a minute, but some days, I needed every last second of that minute!).
I am wasting time. I painted a closet and now have fulfilled my ambition for the day.
Maybe they aren’t as popular but I found a few. I couldn’t imagine not having a “safe” space to put down a curtain climber if I needed to.
I had a walker for Lil Lestat when he was a bebe. I was living in a town house but the walker stayed on the first floor. He did manage to tip out the front door onto his face. No lasting damage was done as there was no “step” down…just a threshold. But they ARE dangerous.
One day down - 4 to go. I fear this is gonna be a long week. As soon as I post this, I’m going to don grubbies and go clean the new tiles so **FCD ** and I can put down the cove molding, then reassemble the laundry room. SIL is at work till 9 so we’ll be asleep before he gets home. Taz has been walking around yowling - weird…
Welcome NewMumps and ReturningMumps! Shadow - 6-month old Valentine candy is hardly a love offering. sheesh!!
That’s all I’ve got for now. Except to note that the place where I stop for my Amish produce fix is done for the season - they were taking the shelter down when I passed it today. So I’ll have to detour to get my Amish fix. durn them!!!
And off to labor…
ETA - **Puggy ** - I’ll take next week if it’s available!
I just came in to say - CRAP!! I dropped $40 somewhere and I have little hope of seeing it again. I had it in my hand as I was walking down the hall to go get lunch - I’d taken $60 out of the ATM - $40 was to get the oil changed in the van tomorrow. Either I dropped it in the hall, or I dropped it in the snack bar where I got my burger. I didn’t discover it till an hour ago. CRAP!! Anyway, I’ll post a notice on our electronic board at work tomorrow, and I’ll go back to the snack bar and ask the nice lady there.
I don’t hold out much hope.
CRAP!!!
In other news - the floor downstairs looks good. After we have supper, we’ll install the cove molding and move the washer and dryer back in.
And sorry for the kitty vet expenses, Shadow. Glad they’re feeling ok for the moment though.
Good luck with the school financing and the not-freaking-out, Spaz. Hope it works out. I’d have freaked out long before this!
We’re waiting on tenterhooks for the beaver cake pictures, bbbobbio! (Have to use “tenterhooks” around here since I now know where the expression came from, thanks to the Mumpers!)
I’ve been reading The Rabbit Factory and have to make a plug for it. It’s a murder mystery - the first in a series (of two at the moment) - but with a large dose of humor thrown in. It’s really long, but it’s a very easy read and just really enjoyable.
Hello Mumpers - returning one-time Mumper checking in
I didn’t realise walkers were illegal in the US, don’t know if they are in the UK. Both my younger brothers used them and had no problems with them.
Okay, I have to vent. I am really, really, really angry and a little upset at the moment. A user on another messageboard I frequent posted an extremely rude comment to me today and it was so out of the blue I actually felt like someone had physically hit me. No idea what I did to provoke it, and it’s from a poster that I respect and generally think of as a nice guy - but he’s certainly not on my xmas card list any more. Also, because he’s a senior member of the talkboard I fully expect no-one to disagree with him and so I now have this incredibly upsetting and (IMO) unwarranted globule of venom with my name in it on another board. Maybe I’ll get some supportive PMs from others, maybe not, but I’m still very annoyed.
Anyway, on the plus side I seem to have bagged myself a man after a good few years of being single. Date 4 was on Sunday and went extremely well (cue a fair amount of smooching in the cinema), and dates 5 and 6 are in the bag, 6 being a visit to his flat when his flatmate is away - hint hint. So watch this space, I may start referencing Illuminatisecundus soon.
