Howdy Y’all! It has been a sloth filled afternoon/evenin’ at da cave. Nappage and cee-mint pond time were achieved. Dindin was shrimpies, sallit, and garlic bread and was nummy. Now I am fritterin’ away time on the 'puter.

**FCD **allowed me to take him to DQ for dessert. Ain’t he sweet??
Almost time to take Mel to bed.
I’m trying to come up with a joke of melatonin (sp?) not working for me and being heterosexual, but I got nothin’.
Back-to-school shopping was bad enough when it was just new sneakers and notebook paper and backpacks and crayons and a few jeans and t-shirts. Outfitting an apartment for a college student is a whole new level of “ugh.” (The older kids lived in dorms or at home.)
Between a few months of savvy shopping (extra $5-10 per week, buying sale items,) nabbing stuff from the spares at Mom’s and cleaning out my late Grandmother’s house, and tonight’s “oh, hell, why not?” midnight run to Walmart, we finally have everything except the perishables. The Boy and his roomies will have the best-equipped pantry on campus. There are 2 first aid kits. Fire extinguisher. Cleaning supplies. Extra sheets and towels. A cooler. A small herb garden for the patio. Extra batteries and light bulbs and school supplies. Food and laundry supplies and extra toothbrushes. Etc.
I’m a little jealous - I don’t think my house was as thoroughly equipped until I’d been married for 3 or 4 years!
Rockin’, The Fellow is officially jealous. He started getting into ham radio about a year ago - small stuff thus far. He would be happy to spend all of the mortgage $ on equipment, if I’d increase his allowance! (And hooray for the adulting.)
Teton, eh? Hm. Yeah. And Anemone? Yeah, I have an Aunt Rosemary, and a daughter Lily, but Anemone?
(Doing genealogical research, I actually enjoy the unusual names. A few generations ago, we had The State Sisters: Georgia, Virginia, Carolina, Missouri, and Mississippi. There was an Aquila and a Grandberry on my grandfather’s side. My husband’s great grandmother was named Clyde. Much easier to trace than the side of the family who thought that every baby boy looked like a John or Johannes! And it seems like all of the baby girls who weren’t named for states were Nancy, Elizabeth, Mary, or Katherine.)
Aw, Peaches, You’ve denied them the joys of “Where’s the <item>??? Why don’t we have the <item>??? Mom always had the <item>!!!” Then they go out and buy the <item> - the first steps in adulting.
When I got my first apartment, I was 3000 miles from my family, and boy, howdy, did I learn how $$$ it was to be on your own. Especially for things you just don’t think about, like a trash can for the bathroom or dish towels. And I was in a “furnished” apartment - at least I didn’t have to buy a bed or a couch…
Then the Cutco sales guy showed up and I shelled out a fortune for a set of knives. OK, it was less than $300, but this was 1975, so that was close to a fortune. On the other hand, 41 years later, I’m still using that set of knives, so there’s that.
Onward - Mel and I passed out a bit after 10. I made the mistake of clicking thru the channels when I got into bed, and Funny Girl was on. I succumbed at the private dining room scene. Then I gave up trying to sleep about 6:30. So the critters have had their morning routine and I just finished a PB&J on whole wheat, and I’m caffeinating. Mowage in about an hour - I don’t want to disturb the neighborhood before 8.
My mom called last night - she’s going to keep Higgs for us when we go on our cruise, plus she’ll drop us off and pick us up at the terminal. YAY! Now we just need to arrange for the critter sitter. At least we won’t be gone over any holidays, so we won’t have to pay the premium for any days. Still $22 for someone to scoop the litter box and make sure the cats aren’t dead seems a tad steep. Wish I knew a neighborhood kid I could trust. Heck, I don’t even know any neighborhood kids at all. You never see any…
It’s actually down to 70° this morning. I’ve opened some windows, even tho it won’t be for long. I’ll take what I can get when it comes to airing the house.
Names in our family are rather boring and benign, altho I did have one aunt whose name was Stanislawa - my dad’s sister who was born when his mother traveled back to Poland to visit. Anyway, she went by Stella, which is less unusual. Then there was her sister Genevieve, who went by Jean. And my dad’s name was Thaddeus, tho most folks called him Ted.
And that’s all I’ve got for now. Happy Sunday!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 76 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of only 90 (well, brrrrr!) and possibly rain/tstorms/apocalypse this afternoon. We shall see. Today’s big plan is to deheathenate and have a <snerk> Quickie! <snerk> N.O.L. I am first Lector (the readin’ kind) this mornin’.
OK, that’s all I got now. I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Purtification for deheathenization must also commence at some point.
Happy Sunday Y’all!
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Laundry day today, then ice skating at the arena.
Mooooommmm, my first apartment was “fully equipped”, if you count getting all the parents 1970’s avocado and orange furniture as “equipped”.

doggio, up here on the Guylindt, $1200 for a 1BR is GOLDEN
I’m getting deheathanized Methodist style this morning. My nephew is playing the trumpet for a musical presentation during the service at his family church. One of the few non-Catholic churches I’ve seen named for a woman. Susanna Wesley United Methodist. The nephew is developing into an extremely talented musician. We are all proud of him.
Mowage is done. Whackage is done. And a little bit of weedage is done. I’m showered, dressed, and cooling down. It’s 76° outside and I took a cool shower, but my face is still beet red - guess I’m a bit out of shape (but round is a shape!!!)
So I’ve got some ice water.
Down here in the boonies, there’s a place you can get a 1BR for $575/mo. It’s boonier than I am, unless you work on base, in which case it’s lots closer. There are other, much pricier options, but cheap is available. Location, location, location…
The Mother of John and Charles Wesley, who began the Methodist denomination.
I made breakfast nachos, now it’s laundromat time, before going ice skating.
I knew that, but thanks anyway for the info!
You are very welcome.
There are some folks here (I name no names), who do things like walking dogs, who need things explained for the meanest intelligence.
I didn’t get a whole lot done this morning, so I hope to work on a few things this afternoon.

In this area, $1200 for anything legally habitable with a private bathroom is pretty much impossible. Under $1500 in SF is going to be a bedroom in a shared house or an SRO.
Happy Sunday!
It was cool overnight, but I didn’t open the window. Should have.
It’s a cloudy 75 degrees now. We are in for some hot, high 80s, low 90s days the coming week, but it looks like the nights are going to be down into the 60s.
$1200 won’t get you much down in the armpit, although you could get something closer to the city for cheaper. If you don’t mind the drug dealers on the corners and the hookers hanging around.
For some people, that’s a convenience, the rest of us, not so much.
It’s why I moved out here to bum phuk nowhere. My mortgage, including taxes and insurance, and all of my utilities, and the payments on the new furnace are under $1200.
FCM - can your cats go with an every other day visit? I know for me it was the travel that would cost the client. Cat visits usually are quick though, except for the few cats that wanted attention.
I had one set of cats, their visits were real quick though. The haunted house cats.
I got hired to come twice a day for three cats whose owner had been killed in a car accident. It was an open ended job, just keep coming twice a day until we tell you to stop, as her son lived out of state. They paid me a bunch up front and every time they came into town, they’d catch up and pay ahead again.
I wasn’t charging them my usual fee because of the circumstances, but also because they were only about 2 miles away. I had to go twice a day because one cat had no lower jaw and had to have soft food mixed up, it would spoil quickly so she needed to be fed twice a day.
To get to her feeding station I had to walk through 2 other bedrooms to the third one at the end.
One day I stepped into the first bedroom and I see a woman making the bed, and I thought nobody is supposed to be here. Then I noticed that I could see through the woman.
She at the same time, noticed me, turned around and screamed NOOOOOOOO GET OUT OF MY HOUSE! and ran at me with her arms out on front to push me.
I braced myself, and she ran right through me. Then with a look of surprise on her face, she vanished.
I know y’all don’t believe in ghosts, but let me tell you, from that point on those were the fastest damn cat visits I’ve ever done. I could whip up the food (always on the daytime visit), fill three food stations, and clean thee litter boxes in under 5 minutes. If those cats wanted attention, they were SOL, because I was not hanging out.
Never said one word to the client, I felt so bad for him losing his mother that way, there was no way I would have backed out of the job.
Breakfast nachos?
I meant that as my point, that IF you can find a 1BR/1bath for $1200 up here, grab it!
