We knew it was coming, but now we know its title, and some of its content, because here is the trailer for the new Indiana Jones movie, out June 30th.
Yikes. Definitely getting Crystal Skull vibes from this trailer, especially that whip/gun gag at the end. Again, it looks like way too much garish CGI. But I hope I’m proven wrong.
“The Dial of Destiny?”
I hope it’s more than a crummy commercial.
Yeah, another vehicle chase with human tug-o-war by the looks.
Also, Indy brings a whip to a gunfight, he ducks, and all the shooters just continue shooting at the place he was a moment ago - seems a bit stupid.
I don’t doubt that they could make another Indy movie that would be great. I merely doubt they will.
Does this involve Time Travel of some sort???
Possibly. I can certainly interpret the title to fit that. The “younger” Indy in the trailer is supposed to be a flashback from the cold open, though.
Did they de-agify Harrison Ford, or are some of those scenes of old footage? The 0:45 mark looks like it could be a different take on the scene from Last Crusade when Indy goes to rescue his father in the German castle. I’m not sure where the scene at 0:49 would fit among the original three movies.
My theory? The movie is actually set in a nursing home, as the aging Indiana Jones slowly loses his memory. His sole enjoyment is watching television, with the channel dial determining whether he has a good or bad day. The entire rest of the film is only in his head. It’s going to be the first really faithful movie version of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
Trailer here:
I’m foolishly optimistic again. I don’t know why, but I just feel like maybe they did a great job? I have no indication either way from this trailer.
Other thread:
I’m hopeful it will be good. Perhaps in a reverse of the Star Trek movie theory (which says that the even-numbered Star Trek films were good, while the odd-numbered ones were not), this will also prove to be good (unlike Temple of Doom and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull)?
I’m disappointed Lucas didn’t write it, and Spielberg didn’t direct it, but you can’t have everything. Spielberg is at least the topline producer, which gives me hope. They struggled for years to come up with the story. Let’s hope it’s worth the wait.

I bet it’s going to be related to the Antikythera Mechanism somehow
That’s a good thing, IMHO.
Hey, it is an odd-numbered IJ movie with Sullah, so it has that going for it at least…

In the film’s opening sequence, Ford will appear as he did in the original trilogy, according to Empire. The initial scene will be the only one in which the star is digitally de-aged, winding the clock back to 1944 before flashing forward to 1969, when the movie’s main action takes place. The 80-year-old actor, who hasn’t stepped into the iconic archaeologist’s boots since the 2008 installment Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, told the magazine that seeing his younger self on the big screen was believable, but eerie. “This is the first time I’ve seen it where I believe it,” the star said of the youth-restoring tech. “It’s a little spooky,” Ford continued. “I don’t think I even want to know how it works, but it works.” According to the magazine, several techniques were needed to flash back to the Indy we all know and love, including new VFX software that combed through archived material of a younger Ford and matched it up with the new footage. The jacket Ford wore in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark was also taken from storage and replicated exactly for the scene.
Perhaps someone can find a good reference–but it sounds like the details are only in the subscribed issue of the Empire magazine.
If the Empire article is true - that the opening scene is the only one to feature a de-aged Indy - then that means some of the troubling online rumors going around are untrue. Which is a very good thing.
It may be just a lie they are putting out there. Are you hearing he will be de-aged during portions of the movie?
Yes, there are rumors that de-aged Indy plays a major role in the plot. And hoo boy if they’re true, this movie will be a disaster of biblical proportions.
