Internet Explorer 6.0 Problem. Help!

I downloaded IE 6.0 onto my computer (running on Win 98, btw) the other day, and have noticed something very strange. I am able to open a link once, and only once, to a separate window per session of IE. That is, if I close all windows of IE and start open it again, I can again open a link in a separate window.

Every window after the first comes up blank. No error message, no address in the address bar, nothing. If I attempt to open a web site in this window (by typing in an adress, going to something in my favorites folder, or hitting the home icon) IE displays an error message and restarts.

It does not seem to matter if I open a link by right-clicking and selecting “open in new window” or if it’s a link that auomatically opens in a new window (like the ones on this board). It works the first time, then opens up the vegetable window after that.

Links that open a page in the same window still work, so I can write this to you and see your responses, but I can’t follow any links you gave me (past the first one). Opening a new window also works, and doesn’t count as my one shot at opening a link in a separate window.

As you can imagine, this is quite annoying but not crippling. I’d appreciate any help you can give me. I know there are other browsers out there, and I have a copy of Netscpae standing by in case I really need it, but I’d much rather get this fixed. Anyone have any ideas?

I had this same problem myself. I think something in the installation of IE became corrupted.

Try add/remove programs, find internet explorer, and use the repair option, then reboot. It worked for me.

I tried JML solution, to no success. I also tried flat-out reinstalling 6.0, also to no avail. Thanks anyway.

I reinstated 5.5, which is good enough for my needs, but somehow seems like quitting ;).
