I saw a Geico commercial last night in which Burt Bacharach appeared. He looked and acted very strange to me, like perhaps he’d had a stroke. Does anyone have any info on his health?
AFAIK, he’s in good health for a man his age (78). He tours, sparingly, a couple of dates a month. Maybe he was hamming it up for the commercial. Especially when he makes reference to the other commercial with the gecko licking his eyeball. Geico commercials are known for being in a humorous vein.
Charo and Little Richard act pretty strange in their Geico commericals too…
Yes, he was to appear in my hometown a year or so ago and cancelled due to illness shortly beforehand and I’d heard nothing about him since. When I saw the commercial I hoped it wasn’t a stroke that had caused him to cancel his concert here. Thanks for the info (also didn’t realize he was 78 now. Wow, how time flies).

He looked like a combination of a) questionable health (he is getting on) b) SERIOUSLY dorking/hamming it up and c) those odd singer mannerisms, like Al Jereau.

He was on American Idol with Dionne last season and he looked fine to me.

That’s pretty much standard Charo, and Richard too, for that matter. Charo is a hoot. She kills me.
The thing that bothers me is Little Richard being ring-less in his commercial. There’s something really wrong there.
How can you tell when Charo or Little Richard are acting strange? What’s your baseline?

I love those commercials - Geico is very hit and miss, but those work.
Charo… María del Rosario Pilar Martínez Molina Baeza, is 65 years old…still coochi coochi, and Richard Penniman is 74, and still making me laugh. Good to see them making a few bucks in a commercial.
I saw that ad the other day, with Burt hamming it up on the piano, and it trying to figure out why the shtick looked so familiar, when suddenly it hit me: on the old Addam’s Family TV show, Lurch used to play the harpsichord with the same sort of exaggerated gestures.
At least on TV Charo looks just like I remember her from eleventy billion years ago, sweet! Little Richard OTOH is just creepy, as he always has been, like an early Michael Jackson prototype. Ick.

Okay, this is probably really awful of me to say but … do you think if he dies they’ll stop showing that damn commercial? I don’t mind the Charo and Little Richard ones but that song of Burt’s is annoying and it get stuck in your head forever and ever and it must be stopped!
