Hey scout1222, can I crash with Dad too? We could carpool or take the train! Anyone want to pick us up at Union Station? Ohhhh, Olvera Street! Yum…
Seriously cadolphin if you can’t manage a whole day, perhaps you could just join us for dinner.

Aaaagggh!!!
There was a Dopefest three miles away and I didn’t know about it?! (I assume you mean the Farrell’s in Mira Mesa. I think that’s the only Farrell’s left in San Diego, and possibly in all the world.) It bears repeating: aaaagggh!!!
Veering off topic … wow Rico, I can’t believe there’s someone who’s been a board member as long (longer) than I and has fewer posts! We’ll be celebrating our thousand post parties sometime after the seas dry up and the stars fall from the sky.
While I’ve never been to LA, and don’t intend to go anytime soon, I just wanted to say that I’ve amused myself with the thread title. From the first time I saw it, I’ve read it as “Ladope”, pronounced like adobe. Keeps sending me off into giggles, darn it.
No, I’m not insane. Why do you ask?
Greg, yep you missed out on our trip to Mira Mesa.
It was back at the end of March. Time flies!
Ferrells was my introduction to SDMB. Rico had never shared it with me until then, but I sure had a great time meeting people and began lurking after that. I’m sorry you missed it Greg Charles… 3 blocks away… I woulda come drag ya out the door if I’d known.
Lsura, very smart person you are! I’d avoid Los Angeles if I were you too. I was born/raised here but left 2 days after high school only to come back to marry Rico. I’ve always hated this place. Personally, I keep reading it as LaDope.
My mother’s family is from Utah where they have a rather unique habit of creating names. My mother’s name is Alta but her sisters were named LaDona and LaVerle. Mom’s spent her life thinking she should have been named LaAlta.
We’re having a party! So, now who’s coming??? I’ll make name tags. Please email me
Please include your real name and SDMB name also if you are bringing someone with you. What they would like put on thier name tag.
Since I’m really new to this, any suggestions about what makes a successful dopefest would be greatly appreciated.
Who is going to plan the alcoholic activities? Several of you have expressed an interest in that area but I don’t drink…at least not anymore. I liked it way to much so I don’t dare get near it again. I’ve been dry about 8 years but am afraid if I slipped, I wouldn’t stop drinking again. I liked it way to much.
I’m off to search the tombs for info on other dopefests.
WEEEEEEE
Let’s make LaDope 2003 the biggest and best ever!
Who’s bringing the cameras? We’ll put together a page with pictures.
WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Hmm…
LADope?
Hmm…
Wait.
I live near LA!
Hmm…
I dunno. It’d have a hard time beating out Dopetoberfest. That was just enormous.
::cough::
Holy hell, SPOOFE! When did you hit the 9500 mark??? I feel like such a wallflower.
I’m interested, as is DeathLlama. DopeFests are always a blast for us.
You know, I can’t remember how many I’ve been too. Time for a little thinking out loud…first time was Gladstones in…uh…2000 was it, Arnold? Then…I think…there was the one I organized at Buca di Beppos. Or wait–maybe next was the big shin dig at Marie Callendar’s. I think that’s it. Then…uh…hmm. We went to the Hollywood Bowl with Shayna, but that’s not a DopeFest. Ooh, then there was, of course, DopeToberFest, and the Farrell’s thingy I think was the last one we’ve been to.
That makes 5, and this would be 6. I know several of the regs have me beat, though! How many would this be for y’all?
Gangster Octopus, when and if you’re able to come, I plan to torture you by repeatedly singing Beastie Boys’ Brass Monkey. Your post has seared that song the background of my thoughts.
Everyone now!
Brass monkey!
That chunky monkey!
Brass monkey chunky!
That funky monkey!
Hm. The first one I went to was Gladstones. Then Jerry’s Deli. LACMA/Marie Calender’s, Ye Olde King’s Head (a very small gethering), Café Tu Tu Tango, Ye Old King’s Head (a larger gathering), DopeToberFest, Café Tu Tu Tango, Farrell’s The order may be off a bit. Was there another one at El Torito besides DTF?
So I’m thinking 9. Maybe 10.
I want to hear about Dopetoberfest.
Cafe TuTu Tango! I was there! I knew I was missing one. That makes 6, working on 7. That’s where you had the alligator. A sweet meat, IIRC.
caldolphin, DopeToberFest was huge. For all the dirt, just to a search–there were several threads that detailed the events of the evening, plus links to pics.
BTW, before everyone corrects me, my hubby has already laughed (quite hard) at my misheard “Brass Monkey” lyrics. Regardless, incorrect lyrics or otherwise, that song is now the soundtrack of my evening. sigh
Reed on, MacDuff!

Random thoughts on my visit to America
Yes, yes! Me like-a de alligatah! Good dipping sauces! And the other things were snacky as well.
Let’s go to Buca di Beppo!!
Fwiw, Cobras y Matadors is a really great place to go for a DopeFest. I’d second Brass Monkey also, never been there, but everyone says its good fun.
Oh, if there is a DopeFest blocks from my apartment I’d try to come.
