Is it time for another Portland Dopefest?

Where? I dunno.
When? I dunno.

All I know is, I have a Chicago Reader(complete with Cecil’s column) to give to whomever organizes a Portland Dopefest.

I have dear friends up there to visit in August. Pick a weekend.

Can’t organize it from Sili Valley.

Think, Bumbazine.

A perfectly wonderful idea! I’m in Salem, so I’m too far to be the planner (really, I am), but I’ll come this time. Really I will. And I know the person (or persons) who does plan it will do a fantastic job—just marvelous! August seems so far away, but the chance to meet Zenster (as well as the usual and magnificant local Dopers), just adds to the anticipation!
I don’t know, I seem to have been hit by a passing sycophantic* mood. I’ll be normal soon. Well, relatively speaking, at least.

*I had to look up “toady” to figure out how to spell this word because although I knew the word, but not how to spell it, so I couldn’t find it inthe dictionary. My devotion to good spelling knows few boundaries.

Czar,

My friends may well be willing to put you up. They are a few minutes out of town. Let me know if that works for you.

You can’t have on yet! You gotta wait until August! That’s when Pun and I will be there. We’re heading up as soon as summer classes are over which should be…around the 10th or so? Maybe? I dunno? I’ll let you know.

Well, you can have it in August, but then you won’t have my bubbly presence to enliven the event.

I’ll be leaving for a 21 day, 8,400 mile motorcycle trip on August 5.

Back in the old cold winter, I had mentioned maybe we could get together in my back yard for a cook-out. That offer is still open - however, I have to say that neither my yard nor my house is fully accessible from an ADA standpoint, and I’d hate to have anyone not be able to attend becasue they couldn’t get to the bathroom…

But for me, any time prior to August 5 is good.

Actually, I mentioned a Portland Dopefest because I live there, but I do appreciate the offer.

August would be fine with me, btw.

Due to business obligations and Burning Man fundraisers, I won’t be able to make it up there until August. I’ve been planning to visit my friends in Portland for some time now and am ever-so-ready for a vacation. I’m thinking TRAIN TRIP! (Love trains, yay!)

Burning Man is 8/25 - 9/1, so that time frame is right out for me. I’m going to check with my friends about their schedule right now.

The weekend of August 2-3 might be a possibility.

I will be across the river in whisper Vancouver the 30th of this month thru the 7th…

TVGUY what say we go offend some Applebees servers:D

Saturday August 2nd works for me.
Now, do we want to meet at one of the usual places like the St. Johns Pub, a new place, or do a potluck somewhere?

Both! BBQ potluck first, pub afters. Will there be a designated driver available? I’ll buy them a (NA) drink or three.

I might be able to get us the use of the local Episcopal church basement for the potluck-it has kitchen complete with oven, microwave and refrigerator. Decent pubs are close by(The Tea Room and the St. Johns Pub to name a couple). Hell, the Tea Room is right across the street from the church.

Zenster if I can make it back up that weekend I volunteer to drive… we can probly crowd three or four into my truck!

This cat trusts NO ones driving but her own!

The 2nd of Aug looks pretty good for me…

I’m in. Can I be the first to say I’ll bring cake? (I don’t do pie, but the feelings the same).

As much as I appreciate TVGuy’s offer of his house, I like the idea of a potluck in the church or a park. Although I have strong extrovert tendencies (which take over once I know people), my introvert inner child gets especially shy at the idea of going to someone’s house. In my imagination, I’ll get the street wrong, but the house I think is TVGuy’s house will have a party going on, and because I won’t recognize anyone anyway, I’ll wander on in. For a few minutes, things will be fine–everyone simply assumes I’m friends with someone else (her friends and relations–“must be from his work”, his friends and relations–“Gods, where does she get her friends”) Then, to get into the swing of the party, I’ll try to strike up conversations with perfect strangers by asking them their Doper names, and succeed only in confusing and alienating them at the same time. Finally, the host and hostess will join forces and confront me, and there will be an ugly scene as I try to explain that I know all these people, but not these these people, from a message board, but I don’t know what anyone looks like, and I didn’t mean to eat so many of the ribs, I was just nervous. I get out before the cops arrive, but I leave the cake behind, thereby losing both a delicious baked good and my fine china plate. :frowning:

And that’s the reasonable scenario.

Yeah. I’m in. Anytime works for me at the moment.

Krisfer, you have a LONG memory …

Kallessa - funny you should mention the two party scenario. That VERY thing happened back in March when I had my fifth annual housewarming party. Some newbies to my yearly bash walked up to a house down the street where a party was also going on and had actually rung the doorbell before they realized the address was wrong!!

(well, ok, maybe not THAT very thing - but you got the drift…)

I think August 2nd sounds perfect! How totally cool!! Yay!!

The church has a motorized chairlift, btw.
