Is the C-word allowed outside the Pit? {Answered: not in a misogynistic way or to insult. Not even with a letter changed}

Because it was certainly allowed here.

or is it that you can’t use the C-word but if you intentionally misspell it to make it the Q-word it’s ok?

Is there a definitive list of words that
Cannot be used at all?
Can only be used in the Pit?
And does misspelling it to make it Not-The-Word ™ make it acceptable?

No. No it doesn’t.

Even back when there was a “bad word” list, didn’t it only apply when directed towards other posters?

Of course, other things/rules might be in play here like hate speech or misogynistic speech or something.

I’m not a moderator. I would say it’s allowed outside of the Pit, but that usage is misogynistic and I would at least Note it if I were a moderator. I don’t think gendered insults are acceptable.

So, I would be opposed to calling a woman a harpy or a bitch as much as I would be opposed to calling her a cunt. Certainly outside the Pit, and, ideally, inside the Pit. Similarly, I would be opposed to calling a man a prick or a cuck.

Side note: There seem to be fewer gendered insults for men than women.

Did anyone report that post?

It was reported and my take is that it was considered to be on par with “F@ck” or “Sh%t” or “N-Word”.

3 moderators looked at the report.

And if it is then that’s their call. It just seemed strange (dare I say contradictory) that with all of the outrage about transphobia and misogyny that it would be allowed outside the Pit (and it wasn’t the British usage) and it looked like the spelling was engineered to get past the the censors.

So it is allowed to call a (non-SD member) woman a cunt outside of the Pit?

It might be like”n-word,” but I hope that if someone used “n-word” to describe Barack Obama, they would be modded. Misspelling an ugly slur does not make it not an ugly slur.

I disagree with the lack of moderation too. It’s not seeing the word “cunt” that drives people away from the board, it’s seeing misogynistic slurs used against women, spelled correctly or not.

If I told a poster to f@ck off and eat sh%t, I think I’d be rightly modded. You mods should rethink this one.

If you told a POSTER. AFAIK Empty Greene doesn’t post here.

I thought the issue about transphobia and misogyny was that it created a hostile board environment for some users whether directed against someone on or off the board.

Shodan got banned for referring to an off-board woman as a harpy. Yet, since the target here is right wing politician she can be called a bitch, which I reported, or a cunt without even a note.

When you’re right, you’re right.

Yepppp.

I had to add extra letters for Discourse.

I’ll bump this up to the Mod Loop. We’ll probably not have an answer until Monday, but sometimes I’m surprised. However, I’m fixing the title as it is misleading.

There aren’t censors on the boards. The spelling was engineered to associate her with the Q-anon crowd.

I agree that the spelling doesn’t matter. It’s not about using a “bad word.”

It’s misogyny. It’s reducing a woman to a single body part to dismiss and insult her.

The person in question has so very many qualities to insult, it’s baffling why anyone would choose that slur.

I’d be perfectly fine with the offender getting the ole ban bat.

It will be at most a warning, probably just a modnote.

Shodan did not get banned for one word. That is ridiculous statement. He got banned for a long body of work, far too many warnings and that post was the one that finally ended his time on the board.

And I wasn’t part of the mod team when that happened I believe, but it was pretty obvious why he finally got the ban hammer.

I object to this! My title was accurate because MTG was called a cunt. Whether or not this is allowed is one question with the other being was it OK because a letter was changed. I believe you changing the title changes the whole context of the thread and that you should change it back.

No, she was not. You misrepresented what happened. Qunt was what was written.
