Ugh - the two times I’ve had Mellow Mushroom pizza, I thought it tasted like Chef Boyardee Box pizza. Calzones aren’t bad, though. The Pizza Kitchen on Northshore, now that’s some kickass pizza.
Barley’s has a full restaurant menu, and in Knoxville, a lot of the bars will allow under 21 but over 18 in. And, obviously young child with parents like in John T’s case could probably get in.
Since there are some questions outstanding, I figured I’d consolidate them. I don’t really know the answers to them (sure, I could make something up, and while that would be fun, I don’t think anyone would appreciate it. ) Joey G Does anyone know how close this (Barley’s) is to either McGee-Tyson or the Downtown Island airport? I’m going to be flying in, if I can make it.
GMRyujin Any suggestions for hotels/motels in Knoxville? Also, any to avoid?
GMRyujin Oh, anyone got a link to a “stuff to do in Knoxville” kinda page? We’re probably gonna drive up Friday night, so we’ll have most of Saturday to kill.
Oh, and JohnT, do we know if there’s going to be a problem with underage folks at Barley’s? (If you haven’t had a chance, I’ll give them a call today - I just don’t want to repeat the call if it’s already been done.)
I haven’t been a good reader lately. The exams this year seem to be ultra-mean.
Anyway, I was planning to stay in Boone for the summer, but the economy has forced my Mom to lay off her delivery driver. Since I’m the normal backup driver, I guess I gotta go and help the 'rents.
My next semester starts in August. Any 'Fest after then can count me in. Sorry guys!
Just called Barley’s, they can take kids and under-21’s and stuff and that they have a bar section and a restaurant section. The lady who answered suggested that the kid not be there around “ten in the evening”, but I assured her that is not the case.
I have no problem in making the reservation for Saturday, June 14th 2003 at 7:30pm if there are no dissenters. I’ll need to ask if they’ll do separate checks as well.
I’ll pick a Doper up from the airport if necessary. If you fly into Island Home, you’re really close to downtown and the Old City, where Barley’s is.
As far as hotels go, you’ll probably find cheaper north of the city, like the Merchants Rd Exit (108) or Emory Road (112?). Merchants isn’t that far from anywhere you want to go. I used to live in that area and would be happy to tell you which ones to avoid. Just email me.
Of course, if you want to plonk down some do-re-mi, there’s some swank B&B’s here and there.
And from what I’ve seen, most of the downtown hotels, while being close to Barley’s, are vastly overpriced.
As far as places to stay in Knoxville, I would choose somewhere out west or north. I would stay away from the east. Of course this is just my opinion. And the south part doesn’t really have anything to offer.
The Knoxville Zoo is a good family thing to do or if you want to drive a little The Great Smoky Mountains are well worth it. All kinds of things to do up in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.
Here are just a few links for hotels and what to do in Knoxville. Hope this helps. Where to stay, what to do
If possible, can someone who knows Knoxville better than I post directions to Barley’s (I know I’ve been there, and could probably find it again, but it might be better for everyone if they come from someone who’s not going to send everyone 5-10 miles out of their way ) - I’ll also hunt on their web site to see if I see any posted.
Aesiron, depending on when you plan to get here, and assuming you still need a sofa to sleep on, you might want to come here first, then one car can be taken. If so, e-mail me (just please put SDMB in the subject line or I’ll delete it not knowing) and I’ll send you directions to my place.
