Thanks for the recipe Cookie. I printed a copy for Wifey’s perusal and hopefully I’ll get some buns to nosh soon!
Sorry to hear about Tonka, Flyboy. It’s really hard when our children get old.
I don’t seem to get scam phone calls. I get scam e-mails and occasional scam texts. Sometimes telling me my order is being shipped, or my e-mail account is being suspended. Or that I need to change my password.
I was unusually fond of B&J’s Cherry Garcia. Unfortunately, in the last couple of years I’ve become deathly allergic to milk in pretty much all it’s forms. There are dairy free substitutes, but they aren’t as good.
I think I’d get another vet.
We’re looking to re-fi the little house. We’ve gained enough equity in the year and a half we’ve owned it to do that, and we want to use the money to do some things to make it ready for full time living, including buying a pickup or cargo van to haul stuff over here. To that end we’re expecting an assessor to come by Toosday to see if she agrees with our estimate of the house’s new value.
I need to tidy the basement (Wifey says) and put a railing on the basement stairs.
I’m gonna look into that today. Fortunately the previous owner left a stack of misc. lumber that I can pick through for such projects.
Done painting for the day. I did the trim around 2 doors - 3 more to go. And I’ve gotten almost half of the ceiling done - I’ll do more tomorrow. With luck, I can finish the ceiling this weekend. It’s being done with paint from 3 different cans/manufacturers. But flat white is flat white, right? It’s a basement, so close enough.
I think I’m going to cruise Craigslist and see if I can score some seating for the basement. We’ve got the futon and a couple of old chairs, but I’d love to get a recliner. And FCD wants a pool table…
Anyway, the rest of today is for chillage.
flyboy - sorry you’re having to deal with such a sad situation. No matter how many critters you bid farewell, it never gets easier. Hugs to you and skritches to Tonka.
I have little to report and will respond to more posts later. Just wanted to say this:
flyboy, I’m so very sorry about Tonka. I’ve always enjoyed reading about him, and in a way, I got a little attached to him. He’s a good boy. It does sound like he’s preparing to travel light on the journey ahead.
If Tonka needs a gentle assist, will you be calling the emergency vet?
nellie Haagen Dazs is my favorite ice cream, short of Andy’s Custard or the small family chain in Oregon that I used to visit.
Mooomm I’ll second red’s suggestion on ditching the pull ups.
flyboy If Tonka is miserable (not eating, hiding, crying), you could try an emergency place or see about one of the services that will make house calls for euthanasia. I’m so sorry. I know you both gave him a wonderful life. Thanks to your stories, I feel I like know him myself. {{{hugs}}}
Shoe it’s been a heck of a year. I think we’re all going to have funky days for awhile.
100F+ here tomorrow. Blergh. We finished the planter bed today, and I’ll need to add soil and the drip system next. After that - plants! I also was able to get the biiiig umbrella set up by my sliding glass door. The master bedroom gets stupid hot, so I’m hoping that the umbrella will help keep things a mite cooler.
Still no solid foods, thank you tooth. Gentle reminder - if your dentist tells you to wear a mouth guard, you should do that. I hate them, so I did not. Now I’m paying for it. Sigh.
Before Covid came along we usually bought TP in 12-packs or bigger. During the crisis we were reduced to buying single rolls a couple of times, though we never actually ran out. Since the shelves refilled we’ve kept two 20-packs on hand, plus the 20-pack that’s in use – start using the last roll, and we go buy more.
Very sorry to hear about Tonka, Flyboy. We lost our Maine coon last May, and I still feel bad about that – nicest, sweetest cat I’ve ever had.
We turned the heat back up, too. Lows in the 40s are a bit much for late May. High tomorrow is supposed to be 50 (!), but then it should start warming up Monday.
{{{ the LAs and Tonka}}} Even when you know that the end is coming, it’s never easy.
magic, that sounds right up my alley.
metal mouse, I think that there are a couple of locals from Rutherford County (where I live) who still post regularly. St Germain and Bosda have both been to local dopefests and after checking, they still post.
Picked up a flat of flowers (some marigolds, zinnias and petunias) today, but will wait until tomorrow to plant them. I did manage to get the bed remade and the laundry finished before picking up the bike and taking a ride for a couple of hours. It’s chilly enough (60F) that it made good riding weather. Didn’t run into any rain until I was 2 miles from where I store the bike, so lucked out.
Tomorrow, I’ll do patio / yard / plant work and veg for the rest of the day.
I went for what was supposed to be a long walk but turned out to be less than 4 miles. It’s just too hot out there. It’s going to be in the 80s for the next several days, so I’ll be lying low. Have I mentioned how much I hate the heat? And yes, a high in the eighties is hot. Because I said so. /stomps foot/
red, you have me craving peanut butter cookies. It’s a great idea. Too bad it’s so hot. Also, no freezer space and I live alone. Eating 3 dozen PB cookies would give me the contours of a peanut…a shelled peanut.
shoe, are you feeling better? Glad you got the pho. Dang, that’s a long drive for someone feeling puny, but a gal’s gotta have what a gal’s gotta have.
@FairyChatMom, sorry if I missed this, but is the new basement floor vinyl squares or carpet? What color?
sunny, I know a lot of people love Haagen Dazs. I think the main reason I never bought it was because I liked B&J’s social conscience, so I’d feel disloyal buying HD when I got premium ice cream. B&J’s do so many good things. Plus I read early on that it has less air content than HD. Yum. Now I want peanut butter cookies AND ice cream.
Nope. Strongly disagree. Plus we knew what you meant.
Worked, laundered, napped. Watched the Leafs blow it again.
I’ve always kept a long supply of TP, but since the pandemic I’ve been stocking up on staples.
Thanks, it was a good series. I do wanna get on Rocco Grimaldi jersey.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 57 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 84 and N.O.S.for the day. A decidedly cooler day! The big plan of the day is deheathenization followed by N.O.L. at Sonny’s. This way we get our requisite Memorial Day weekend ribs. Other than that chillage shall ensue all day.
We had a great time yestiddy with JDD and Partner. Much merriment and silliness was had by all. Plus we et good and had some quality cee-mint pond time. I actually wrote this in a post for last night, but did not hit send, so it was sittin’ here ready to be sent still this mornin’. Sometimes I are not smart!
{{{Flyboy and Mrs. LA}}} this is never easy. Y’all have given Tonka a wonderful life and he knows that. I wish Tonka and the both of you peace in the coming days.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, purtification for deheathenization must commence.
They’re carpet squares in shades of browns and grays - pretty neutral, and dark enough to hide a multitude of dirts between vacuuming.
More rain overnight, and I switched over from a/c to heat this morning to take the chill out of the house. It feels more like autumn than late spring!
Leftover pizza for breakfast - yum! Then I need to clean the critter fountain - should have done it yesterday (hanging head in shame.) I’m going to haul the dirty laundry downstairs and do a load or two while painting the trim around the 4 remaining doorways. How much, if any, ceiling that gets done is still to be determined. There are 2 light fixtures that are loose and need to be reinstalled properly, plus most of them need to be dusted. That may be it for today. Or not. Who knows??
We’re promised sun tomorrow - I’ll take advantage and do some weeding in my veggie patch and I’ll finally transplant the sunflowers. I think I also need to stick some more cuke seeds in the ground - hope it’s not too late for that. But that’s for Moanday. We’ll deal with today first, as if we have any choice.
I decided to join the kitties outside this morning, and am reading & typing while being incessantly berated by an irritated fox squirrel.
It sounds like I’m being yelled at by a dying 80s-era video game. I’m sure the lil’ guy thinks he’s raining fire & brimstone upon my head, but really, it’s such a funny, pathetic sound.
Sure you are. You had everything ready to go - that’s, like, planning, man!
Glad you got some silliness time, swampy there’s been meager rations of that lately.
Morning all. Paper has been rescued from the front yard and mowage is planned for a little later this am (it’s 55F out right now, heading for 75F, so I’ll let it warm up a bit. Metro Diner is the planned Sunday dining, we’ll see if I head over there around noon-time or mid-day.
Squirrel just wants you to know your damaging his clam right now, shoe. Enjoy the day.
nellie, good thing you don’t live in Abu Dhabi as I did; it’s 93F at 5:30pm there and due to hit 100F tomorrow–and women cannot go out without longsleeves and covering down to their ankles (and least you don’t have to wear the black albaya all over you…).
Bumba, sounds like the house plan is a good one, hope it works out as you plan.
It was a gorgeous sunny day yesterday and we took full advantage of it. I emptied the last cart bark into my garden and played outside with Zoe. Later, my son came up and we headed to Wild Birds Unlimited and after that to the park with Zoe where she got to play on ALL the toys and swings and then we went exploring where we searched for the perfect stick, leaves, and dinosaurs. For those not in the know, any rock is a dinosaur egg, according to Zoe.
At any rate, we had a very full and busy day and Zoe actually devoured her dinner. This is a BIG DEAL because Zoe is not really a mealtime eater; she prefers grazing. Around sevenish, it was bath time and a little after eight (I wanted her hair to dry), it was bedtime. She fell asleep almost instantly and went down without a fight, giving everybody, including Polar, goodnight hugs and kisses.
Speaking of Polar, he has now taken to coming upstairs while I am bathing Zoe. He moans, howls and chuffs at the door because he has to SEE what’s happening and make sure everything is okay. This is the first time he’s done this with Zoe, so I know she’s officially part of his pack. As soon as she arrived on Friday, he got down into play stance and wanted to play with her. He is an OLD MAN, so that was a really nice moment. Yesterday, he was definitely feeling it, poor guy. Also, his stomach is messed up AGAIN. Time for a serious discussion with the vet concerning diet. He does alright for awhile if I put him on the brat diet for a few days, but it seems his stomach woes came back.
Wow, I hear Zoe stirring. I thought for sure she’d sleep in today. In fact, I was hoping for it, because Grandma has stuff to do and it’s easier to do without a toddler underfoot. I don’t know why, but she’s an early riser when stays here. My daughter tells me she typically sleeps late on weekends. She’s never done it here…
I still need to mow the lawn, damn it. Hopefully, I can get that done once Grandpa gets up.
Don’t you just love it when dogs get into play stance with little kids taters? Nelson does that with friends’ little boys and they’ve learned the meaning of it.
Up, caffeinating and breakfasted. I’m fixing to put some chicken tortilla soup in the crock, do KP, then get sheveled to run some errands. After that, it will be playing with plants.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Of today.I managed to drag Gordie out, and he did his business. Between trying to fight every other dog in the complex out for a walk. It’s 54 and starting to rain, so the weather is as dark and sorrowful as Leaffan right now.
If you call it “Italian Cheese Toast”, it’s sounds fancy and elegant.
You should be safe, as long as he doesn’t call in Møøse for backup.
Actually, it was Pizza Florentine con Funghi e Formaggio - Now that’s fancy and elegant!
I’ve finished painting all the door frames. Fourth load in the washer, third in the dryer, first and second have been put away. I’m taking a break before cleaning the light fixtures. FCD replaced a brown outlet with a white one to match the rest of the basement. Neither of us can recall why the brown one was put in. Maybe it’s all we could find at the time??
It’s almost lunch time - what to have?? There’s still some pizza left over… hmmmmmmmmm
