It Is The Heat, A Warm MMP

It’s Sunday! Granddaughter Harriet day!! Whee!! Grandma squeals of delight!

Got to go grab the pad of laundry and fold it into my go bag so I can take it over today. The very pregnant parents will find that reassuring-Hattie was three weeks early.

Still cool here, don’t know if backyard play will be involved.Long pants sure will be. Sheesh-nature didn’t get the “it’s spring” memo.

So, I will have finished one half load of laundry, FCMooom will have finished, folded and put away four-sounds about right.

Hugs, skritches, smiles to all.

nellie you and I are soul sisters. Heat is evil. Today 100f+ today and tomorrow over 105. Grr

MetalMouse I have been tempted to try the albaya. The sun is really hard on me healthwise, and I have wondered if a complete covering would help. Black though - not black. I do not understand that at all. It seems like a heat magnet.

Bumba we’re also working on re-financing. The house is worth a few thousand - a few HUNDRED thousand more than we paid for it 2 years ago. The world is crazy. The interest rates are so low that it seems well worth doing.

taters I well remember Saturday being the only day of the week that we could sit in front of the tv and watch cartoons until mom & dad got up. If we woke them up, then no more Bugs Bunny for us.

doggio why is Leaffan dark and sorrowful?

Enjoy GHD!

My plan for today is to hide from the heat as best I can. That’s it. That’s the plan.

Happy Sunday everyone!

Front yard is mowed. Taking a break for a little nourishment and a cold beverage and then I’ll tackle the back yard. Eating a nibble now should let me go to dinner about 4:30PM, when it shouldn’t be to crowded.

BBBoo, enjoy Harriet Day!!

Taters, sounds like a fun day was had by all, and nice of Polar to accept Zoe into his pack. And being an ‘old man’ myself, I know what you mean when you overdo the playing and pay for it the next day…

OK, lawn won’t mow itself (wouldn’t it be a great invention if someone would invent self-mowing grass?), so back to work.

Daughter was home for a couple days – first time we’ve seen her since January of last year – but is now on her way back to NY. She picked up her birthday presents, which have been sitting here waiting for a few months, stopped by the library to chat with whoever was working, and gave me my birthday present - a 1l bottle of Pusser’s rum. (Yes, a full litre, not the standard 75cl!)

:notes: :microphone: It’s a fine Navy :ship: day* in the neighbourhood… :musical_note: 100% rain today (currently 50, wind chill 45; high 51) and tonight (low 48), but stopping tomorrow (high 67) and staying dry until Wednesday night.

* Of course it’s a fine Navy day. Just look at that haze-grey** sky!
** Colour of paint used on USN surface ships.

The Leafs had a 3-1 lead in a best of 7 playoff series, and just lost back to back overtime game, so it’s Game 7 on Monday.(and they haven’t won a playoff round since 2004. Plus the whole 1967 thing.)

Well, I was born in 1967 but I didn’t think it cast a cloud over the whole year… :sleepy:

And the laundry is done, except for putting the last of it away, since FCD is napping and I don’t want to disturb him… Also the first afghan for Baby 2.0 is done. I suppose I should start using his name, even tho they haven’t decided on a middle name - he’ll be Tobias. Dunno if they’ll call him Toby or not - I’ll let them decide.

Anyway, I’ve got yarn for a second, smaller afghan for him, per Daughter’s request, so I guess I’ll start that. To the recliner!!!

I saw an ad recently for a lawn mower robot. Looked like a big Roomba with an attitude. I fully expect you to get one and show it to us.

Good grief! I’m 20 years older’n you.

Some husky young lads are coming over to get our lumpy, bumpy old futons this afternoon. I need to get some clothes on and get after cleaning them off.

Later.

Read lots, and learned about “play stance”. I’ve never had dogs, and my husband says I act really nervous about them, even the small ones. Most of our friends either have no pets, or cats. Lots of cats.

Speaking of cats, we have some spray that we’re supposed to spray on the plants and the cats should avoid them. Tried some of along the border, but don’t have a lot of faith in it. Just using it to use it up, since disposing of it means going to the special disposal center, as it falls under the chemical category.

Yesterday we went into the biggest city in Switzerland and had a swanky 2 hour lunch on the top floor. Very nice view of the city, but I think my friend was really enjoying the rear view of the waiter. Sherbert

Really enjoyed the relaxed lunch with cocktails (we each had two) and beautiful and delicious food which was prepared by somebody else. Seems that sherbet glasses are back in style for cocktails. Of course I’ve been mostly home for the last 15 months, so what do I know about cocktail trends?

We were outside, as indoor dining is only permitted starting tomorrow. Think we’ll be eating outside for a bit longer, especially as we haven’t had our second vaccine doses yet.

After a really cold spring, it seems that we’re finally warming up. We got some garden work done, went for a walk, and have been enjoying the conservatory all afternoon. Even did some paperwork, so we’re still making progress on the great mucking out.

Almost time to call it a weekend and settle down for the evening.

I’m willing to share my ice cream - I have both coffee, and cake batter, at the moment - but you gotta supply your own spoon.

The weather gnomes (That’s how I like to think of forecasters.) say it’s sunny and 64º out there. They are drunk. It’s cloudy and cool. I’m guessing the clouds will burn off or trundle along to wherever clouds go when it’s sunny everywhere, but for now, I’ll take this delightful weather.

I’ve been doing a lot of genealogical research lately. I want to put together a family history for the next generation. Boy, census takers were careless spellers, and their handwriting wouldn’t win prizes. Also, census questions should include interesting details for future generations: Why did you go become a mason? Were you disappointed in the way your life turned out? Rutabagas: yea or nay?

We haven’t heard from Flyboy today. I hope he knows we’re all thinking about him and Mrs. LA and Tonka. I’m a little teary about the situation, and I know I’m not alone.

swampy, we expect nothing less than silliness from you and OYKW when you get together with JD and partner. Glad you had a wonderful time.

Boo, I hadn’t realized the stork was already circling the neighborhood. How exciting! Hope you and Harriet have a wonderful time.

MetalMouse, I make a habit of not visiting hot places. Twice I went to Tucson in summer to care for my (sweet) mother-in-law. They had an inadequate swamp cooler, no A/C. Ugh. I now know where Purgatory is. I’d sizzle to a crisp in Abu Dhabi.

Hooray! Mom liked you best. Also, I never said you could borrow that sweater. Wait. Did I take you too literally?

Evening all.

I actually met up with multiple people yesterday :open_mouth: Went and juggled in the park for a bit with them. I didn’t even plan it days/weeks in advance, was just out for a walk and got a text saying people were meeting. That’s the first time something like that has happened in a long time.

I also emailed in my notice for the house- confirming that I’m leaving by mid-July. I still don’t quite know what’s going on with the job, but I have something approaching A Plan now at least. No idea if it’s a good plan, but I had a massive sense of relief sending the email…

Oh, and I’ll join the cool team. I swear I’m part Pratchett troll- my brain stops working at higher temperatures.

{{Tonka}} and Flyboy.

nellie my mom has been doing a lot of delving into the family history, reading and transcribing tons of old letters etc. Apparently my forebears were all pack-rats, so these letters from the late 1800’s-earley 1900’s are still around. The old family farmhouse was sold recently, due to an uncle’s bad habit of not paying taxes, but my folks were able to retrieve things before the sale. The stories from the letters are fascinating.

Now to think of dinner, got some fish thawing, thinking of tacos.

I got Tonka to eat three bites of the tilapia we had for dinner yesterday. Before that, he’d had three bites of pork on Friday. I tried twice to give him some scrambled egg this morning, but he gagged both times when he sniffed it. I was working out back a bit ago, and Mrs. L.A. said she got him to eat a little fish. Last night, I was laying on the couch and he was on the back. He got down on the couch and pissed on me. Poor guy.

I bought one of those accordion-style screen doors for the middle bedroom door four years ago. Somehow, I received two without being charged for the second one. Mrs. L.A. finally made me install it on the door to the little bedroom. Now the back of the house looks symmetrical. But what a pain in the arse! Strings everywhere! The ‘instructions’ (image on the Amazon link) are almost useless. Anyway, it’s up. It’s stiff, but it works. I’ll hit it with silicon spray sometime.

A couple of my cousins (on both sides of the family tree) have done research into the various ancestors. I may have mentioned here before, but the only really interesting one was my mom’s paternal grandfather. We knew he’d committed suicide, leaving my grandfather to care for his 2 younger brothers, but Mom’s cousin found out he’d been imprisoned… for murder… :open_mouth: and that’s where he killed himself. I’m assuming my grandfather knew but he didn’t tell his kids.

We just finished a couple of salads for supper. I’m about to resume the recline position and continue work on the little afghan. Chillage for now, more painting tomorrow.

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, said goodbye to our Music Director who is headed off to graduate skool in Etlanner to pursue a master’s degree in sacred music. Who knew that was even a thing! We shall miss him as he is an exceptionally talented organist. Everyone sat and listened to his final postlude and then we applauded and cheered, Imagine a buncha Whiskypalians and Luteruns doin’ such a thing in church! It was most excellent and he definitely went out with a bang. Sonny’s made N.O,L. So full of ribs that no thoughts of sup are bein’ entertained. Oh and nappage occurred. No haulin’ the biiiiiiiiiiig trash can today as tomorrow is a holiday for the trash folk.

Evening all. Finished mowing (and shoe, goats would be fine but they would have to be able to change their own diapers…) and then took a long hot bath (because, as I’ve said before, a shower is just a shower, but a long hot bath is a soak… Then off to the Metro Diner for meatloaf and fries with a side salad, so I am refreshed and well-fed. Evening will be readin’ and puzzle-solving and internettin’. Dishwasher should finish it’s cycle by 8pm, so I’ll have something to do tomorrow morning. Also plan to do the Great June Stockup on Memorial Day, we’ll see how the crowds are.

Swampy, organ music played by someone who knows what they are doing is wonderful to hear. Best of luck to him in his future.

flyboy, you may be the first person to write the words “…and pissed on me. Poor guy” and mean it. Best to Tonka.

Nellie, VanGo, FCM, an uncle on my Mom’s side did some digging many years ago, her side of the family came over from Germany after the 1848 rebellions and one of her relations served in the Civil War (for the North), but I’ve never been interested enough to dig further. Good on ya for doing some history.

Nut, sometimes getting up the nerve to make a decision is tough, so once you have done it there seems to be a great load off your shoulders…your Rubicon has been crossed. Best wishes on The Plan.

Dicey, ya coulda just said Zurich instead of making me look it up…and while I don’t do them very much, swanky lunches now and then are good for ones soul, IMHO.

Bumba, a robot would be nice, but mowage is sometimes the only real exercise I get, so as long as I am able, I’ll be out there mowing.

Ok, best be about the Sudoku’s and Jumbles or they’ll never get done tonight. All y’all take care and I’ll catch you on the next MMP.

nellie, I’m with you on asking the whys of our ancestors. My great grandfather, great grandmother and grandfather emigrated from Poland in 1905. G Grandad’s occupation changed according to where they were living at the time. In Wisconsin, he was a teamster for a logging camp, in Oklahoma Territory, he was a carpenter and in Indiana, he was both a farmer and a paper hanger. Like VanGo’s family, mine tended to be packrats too (makes for interesting reading.).

I dropped off the Goodwill donations and got the car washed today. After that, I popped into Janarty’s for a couple of scoops of butter pecan and came home to pot the flowers purchased yesterday. When I walked Nelson this morning, he stopped to bark at the apartment two doors down. A bark from their Aussie Molly was returned, as well as some pretty excited baying. :open_mouth: This afternoon, I got to meet their new dog, Mocha, a 100 # ish bloodhound. :open_mouth: :open_mouth: That’s a lot of dog for a two bedroom apartment that already has two adults, two kids and another dog. I hope that she does well and that they pick up after her better than they do Molly. Once she’s acclimated, we’ll introduce her to Nelson.

Mmmm… I just had the first BLT of the summer earlier.

A hundred-pound bloodhound?
I didn’t know bloodhounds could be a hundred pounds. Zounds! It astounds!
