All righty - the basement is ready for the flooring guys. And I’m ready for Roxy, I guess…
Good morning everyone.
I’ve been up since before the buttcrack of dawn and am girding my loins for yet another overly full workday. But, the good news is that it’s my Friday. Hopefully, I can get through today without any large fires. I still have the smoldering remnants of one fire to deal with and I’m not looking forward. I didn’t create the fire and none of what happened had anything to do with me, but somehow I am the one with the firehose, shovel, push broom, and dustpan.
But, after today I have four days off and I plan to enjoy them. Zoe arrives tomorrow evening and both GoPa and I will try to find fun activities for her. I’ve discovered she enjoys baking brownies, so we will do that too. Really, she enjoys licking the batter off the spoon, but who can blame her? Certainly not me!
Welp, it’s almost time to head upstairs to my office. Donwanna, REALLY donwanna, lol!
That’s okay. Typing that out gave Mr. Sandman a gold-plated invitation, it seems - no midnight drives for me last night!
I did step outside to look at the stars, and the big ol’ moon (though I slept through any eclipse) and generally enjoyed the quiet night air.
The biggest agenda item for today is Jib-Jab # 2. All else can fall in line behind that priority … including, let’s see:
-
Getting cash. (Neighbor kid came by offering to mow my jungle-esque yard yesterday - told him to come back today. Doubt he will, but either way, I can find some neighbor with a mower. Needs to happen soon-ish before prop. mgmt. gets involved.)
-
Paying bills. (Apparently, ya gotta do that, like, EVERY month. Pssh. Buncha bullshit if you ask me.)
-
Chewing on that federal government form I need for my naturalization replacement.
-
Following up with hiring managers from yesterday.
-
Packing into plastic tubs some paper goods that were in a cardboard box when my basement floor puddled up after the rain a couple of days ago.
(Obviously, these are not listed in order.)
Someone fell asleep watching Horrible Histories last night, and forgot to put the rabbit up, so he had full run of the house last night. I think I’ll blame the Welsh.
It’s Squeaky’s birthday today. During my shopping trip last night, I grabbed some more last minute birthday gifts. Like his mother and me, he is most unhelpful when trying to pick out gifts. Mrs Magill took the day off, and is upstairs making muffins for his Birthday Breakfast.
Tomorrow is Pfizer 1 day for Squeaky I’m sure he’s looking forward to it. At least he’ll have some protection before he goes to camp in two weeks. I really wish they had opened up the J&J vaccine for twelve year-olds, rather than Moderna.
Mrs Magill had her (hopefully) last treatment yesterday. She goes back to the oncologist in a month to see whether her numbers have improved. He also recommended she see her GP to have a Covid antibody test run. He is unsure whether she had enough white blood cells in her system when she was vaccinated. Fingers crossed.
The boys are playing online D&D this afternoon. They are looking forward to in-person play once everyone is fully vaccinated. I’ve not heard about one person in their group, but I know the young man across the street was hied over to the pharmacist as soon as Pfizer was opened to 12+.
Time to pretend to work, and get ready to space out during my weekly stand-up.
Morning all. Ice Cream was shared with the kids last night and a good time (between rainshowers) was had by all. Will now dispose of the information, I make it a strict rule that after the season I cut all contacts with the kids, it’s best that way, since I’ll be coaching a completely different set of kids come August. So the shredder will get a workout and deleting e-mails will be fun…
red, sounds like the personality clash is that you have one and he… Do whatever is best for you. His goals are probably going to bite him in the butt sooner or later.
Taters, sounds like a fun weekend.
Sunny, thanks for the invite, but I’m pretty set on 2023. And like FCM says, I’m saving for one of those cruises that actually make landfall in Antarctica, and being single, is going to cost many bucks.
FCM, hope FCD is OK…falling is not fun at our ages, and with his other difficulties…but stubborn is like granite…very hard to erode away…
doggio, what is “baked whitinf”?? Goggled it and while there seems to be people with that name, none of them, so far as I know, have been baked for dinner…
OK, the Ice Cream substituted for dinner last night (If you had seen the size of the cone, you would understand), so need to forage the refrigerator for sustenance. Been putting off a shopping trip, probably will get out and do some good for the economy later. All y’all take care.
Afternoon, mumpers! I don’t need a weather app to tell me it’s sunny and warm out there today, and hopefully it’s going to stay that way for the next few days.
{{{Bumba and Vinnie}}} it’s sad when pets get old and slow down, especially when you can’t ask them what hurts or how you can help them.
{{{herald}}} so sorry to hear about your niece.
{{{Swampy}}} hope you feel better soon, there’s nothing worse than having your own personal snotfest.
Moooom sorry to hear about FCD falling over, I hope he learns to be a bit less stubborn and apologises first!
Boring irk day for me, I’ve been kind of putting off a long and yawn-inducing job but today I decided it finally had to be tackled. I’m about 2/3 through now, and have done as much as I can for now. I am about ready for a break from it too, I just need to update a spreadsheet or two and I can give it a rest.
Once irk is over, it’s exercise time! Rockfit has given us a classic rock Rockathon workout, an hour and a half instead of the usual hour so I’m doing that once I finish work. Can’t wait! Dinner tonight shall be honey chilli chicken with brown rice because I like it, it’s easy and I haven’t made it for a long time.
Had a small, sensible breakfast (plus a donut!) then got stabbed in the shoulder.
Last lady was young-ish, serious, quiet, and I had no idea what she did, it was so painless.
This guy was older, talkative, didn’t even align the jab wound with the dot-bandage, and OWwwww! that stung like a bee.
Wandered the store for a while - considered buying a little cup of overpriced “sipping broth” but put it back.
Now I have regrets, cuz it’s not like imma make soup from scratch (and have to clean up after!) if I feel even half as bad as last time.
But I have fresh milk - a rarity in a household of one - so there’s always Kraft box dinner if I get ambitious, or bowl o’cereal if I don’t.
If this is something easy to make For One ™ could you share, pls?
Most recipes are a pain to scale down, but I’m hopeful this is something you made just for yourself…
Sorted, mezzed, loaded up irregs. FYI, Jennifer?Vroom and Wellbot, your packages might be late.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
whitefish(my phone’s otter corrupt is full of shirt).
The guys have been working in the basement for 3 anna half hours or so - all the workmen we’ve hired over the last year seem to favor LOUD music while they work. At least these guys don’t play country.
Roxy and I played inside for a while, then outside for a while, then had lunch. I need to figure out if I can take her to her mom or if she needs to be picked up. It depends on FCD’s meeting schedule.
Life can be so complex!
We got real rain, as opposed to the sniveling stuff we had last week that barely measured as precip. I woke up in the middle of the night, smiled gratefully, and went back to sleep. We’re supposed to get more today. I’d better take an umbrella when I walk errands.
Ima little nervous about the last stop. Over time, I managed to damage my hair, and at my last appointment, my (trusted) stylist suggested cutting it off, as in short. I like short hair–on other women. It just doesn’t suit me. So I said no, but since then, I’ve come to see that trying to make damaged hair look good is just dressing up a corpse, so I go today to get a compromise cut of a few inches. (My hair is just past shoulder-length.) If you hear wails, it’ll be because his definition of “a few inches” and mine are distinctly different. I know: first world problems.
swampy, glad you’re doing some serious resting. Lots of liquids, too, I hope, even though with your runny schnoz, it may seem like bringing coals to Newcastle.
FCM, thanks for the clarification. Hope you love the new basement floor! Will it be finished today? Hope we get photos.
shoe, hope the after-effects of this jab are easier than last go-round. Let us know how you’re doing, please.
Like me always seeing “shitcake” for shiitake.
Looks like the basement floor will be done shortly - those guys work fast! I suppose it helps that the carpet tiles are 24X24, so they cover a LOT of territory! I just ran down to peek and it’s looking great. So tomorrow, I’ll be putting the basement back together. WOOHOO!!
I call the mushrooms ‘shit-takes’. Like a ‘spit take’, I guess; only I’d never spit one out.

At least these guys don’t play country
I had to tell the last group we had to change their music because the lyrics were not suitable for children or the neighbors. I didn’t like them much either.
flyboy white hat (Chefguy - I’m blanking on the nickname.) I will now have both of those synonyms firmly in mind.
FCM congrats on new floor!
swampy I’m glad to hear that you are feeling better.
nellie whatever happens with your hair, just remember: it’s just hair and it will grow.
Wizard Happy Birthday! to Squeaky and I’m glad that Mrs. Magill is feeling better.
Shoe I hope that this shot goes better than the first. I also missed the eclipse completely. I have seen them before, but they are always so cool. My daughter took the opportunity to remind me that she ran into the house to get her camera and missed the totality of the solar eclipse a few years back. I am still so sorry about that kiddo.
MetalMouse At this point, it’s really more teasing about the cruise than a serious question. It would be lovely but I completely understand your reasoning.
Taters You are thisclose to the weekend! Another thing you might try with kidlet is making playdough at home. It’s fun, she can play with it after, and it’s not the end of the world if’n she stuffs some in her mouth at some point.
Yes, my planned cruise does not have any shore excursions onto the ice in Antartica, which is too bad. On the other hand, I don’t really want to cross the world ocean on a smaller boat. sigh There are also more activities for 'Beamer on the bigger ships. I don’t mean much in the way of activities, truthfully. It’s more that his autism requires certain foods and cabin set up. Booking now means substantial enticements from the cruise industry, in terms of pricing and excursions, etc, and we want to do it anyway, so why not.
I feel like hell today, so further work on the garden bed shall be postponed. Dinner tonight will be salmon with pesto butter. Chicken for boy. We’ll have mashed potatoes, corn, sallit and rice. Some eat rice and some don’t, etc. We have clementines for dessert.
It is pouring outside. It’s a nice rain, but I sure don’t want to pick up my daughter in it. Yes, I’m that lazy. It sounds way nicer to listen to than it does to actually be outside.
This morning was a follow up appointment for overlymom. It went well. Next one in three months. Also, I got to have lunch for a change, which was nice. What was not nice was having to stare at it for two hours after I got it home because I had meetings where I had to actually talk. Despite what my name implies and the amount of crap spewing from my keyboard, I do NOT like to talk.
So there.
And they’re done. Pics on my FB if we’re friends there.
FCD has gone to his meeting. Roxy has gone home. Peace reigns temporarily. I’m trying to decide what to do with the leftover chicken so supper is somewhat enticing. I got nothing. I looked up a few chicken-and-rice recipes on line, but they all seem to call for cream-of-whatever soup and I refuse to use said soups, period, end of discussion.! Last time, I made chicken salad, and ended up throwing most of it away. I made it to FCD’s taste which meant I didn’t really like it, and he just had it once, then that was that. Maybe I’ll just make it the way I like it - at least then I know I’ll eat it.
Daughter has half a day tomorrow, so I’m going to take Roxy and meet her for lunch, just because. Gotta decide where we’ll eat, tho. I’m always up for Salsa’s!
El Jefe fed us burgers today. I brought a zero-net carb bun from home (gotta get rid of those somehow!) and put salt, pepper, mustard (meat-side), mayo (top), lettuce, and tomato on my quatah-pound deadcow patty. The supplied sides were all carbohydrate bombs, so I had some Trader Joe’s Oven Baked Cheese Bites. There were two patties left. I thought about having one (without a bun), but I’m too full.
I have a task for someone who is good with Photoshop:
Put Honoré de Balzac’s face on the models wearing these Ballbottoms. Because someone in the orifice just called them ‘ball-sack pants’.
Howdy Y’all! Been a day of rest and recuperation. I am a lot less of a snot factory which is a good thing cause I hate blowin my nose so much and also OYKW says I sound like I’m callin’ moose. I really don’t want a herd of lovesick moose in da yahd. Sup got made and et so that’s good too.
Happy Squeaky Day!
I did one productive thing today. I filled out what I felt like an overly long Mutual Ministry Review document that I am supposed to do as a member of the Vestry. I honestly do not know what this is suppose to accomplish, but I did my duty.

I don’t really want to cross the world ocean on a smaller boat.
I just don’t understand the logic behind going to sea on something that’s not designed to come back up to the surface under its own power.

Oh. My. Gawd.
