We do, which I know sounds totally odd. I think I’m going to keep them potted, though - kind of like strawberries and bamboo they tend to take over everything unless you rein them in.
And with regard to my sister going into the office…I have no idea. I think he was looking for a sounding board to agree with him that she was irresponsible, but I just couldn’t do that because she’s not. We wound up talking about my dad most of the time, which wasn’t a fun subject. He kept asking me how I felt about him potentially having terminal cancer alongside his Alzheimer’s and why I wasn’t as upset as my sister. I am upset, but I’ve got kids and a husband to worry about, and a job. I can’t just crawl into a hole and stay there forever, much as I’d like to.
I’m so sorry to hear about Vinnie. I hope the supplements work their magic.
Back from returning Roxy to her mom followed by a stop at Food Lion. I decided on Beef Stroganoff for supper - that’ll use up the steak. Plus yum!
The thermometer in my car said 95°. Needless to say, the house is closed and the a/c is on. I’m about to head to the basement and paint the trim that will be close to the carpeting. I’ll deal with the higher-up stuff after it’s all done.
Hugs to all who needs them or want them - what the heck - HUGS TO ALL!!!
Supposed to get to 90 by Saturday. We’re dangerously short on rainfall so far, although yesterday’s deluge helped some. There is severe drought down by the CA border. Lovely 74F today and the local farmers’ market is open and has Hoodie strawberries! Hoodies are a variety grown in Oregon. They have a short season and are super-sweet. I’m also going to pick up some fixin’s for a blueberry cobbler.
We’re kinda in Greek mode in the kitchen lately. I made a baklava a few days ago and yesterday we made a wonderful spanikopita. I think moussaka is next.
Garden-wise: we planted potatoes for the first time and have two sprouts. We’ll be transplanting the tomatoes from their pots to the garden on Friday. It’s been too cold at night up to this point. The peonies are in bloom, as are a lot of the roses.
Usually all we do for birthdays is go out to dinner, at a restaurant chosen by the birthday person. We’d already finished by the time we got the news. Robin’s sister called their cousin (my nephew), who called my daughter, who called Lady SCAdian… When I got the message I checked FB, and found notes from all three of Robin’s sisters asking me to call.
True that. Blackberries in Oregon are like kudzu or something. I have to hire someone to clear them out once a year or so, or the back fence is invisible and the yard is shrinking.
My mom and I spent time again today trying to finish a raised garden bed. Don’t buy from Gardener’s Supply. We’re having to drill new holes through the brackets/braces, and the wood keeps splitting. Hopefully it will be finished in the next few days, then i need to get dirt into it. I’m going to put it in front of our living room windows, with some flowers. I hope we’ll get some butterflies and hummingbirds. I’ve got 2 more (different manufacturer) that I’ll use for 'maters and strawberries.
It sounds like your BIL is a bit needy wordy. I hope that he calms down soon.
Ouch on the fall bumba. I hope that you’re not too banged up.
Two more days! I’m beginning to have a severe dislike for my manager. He’s getting on my last nerve. I’m actually looking at a job in a lower pay band with less stress. I could swing it on the pay provided I still have my same bennies (I would). It would be nice not to have to plan everything around month end again.
Evening all. Napagge was taken, puzzles completed, and soccer was watched, and in about 1/2 hour (weather permitting) I’ll go back to the Ice Cream stand to treat my girl’s team. There is rain right now, but it’s supposed to move out of the area in the next 30 minutes, so we’ll see.
red, hope things work out for you; is it his business practices or just a personality conflict (in that you have one…).
talky, I agree withred, BIL sounds a bit controlling/dependent to me (of course, never having met him, I can come to a conclusion on this…)
Bumba, best wishes and a few extra scritches for Vinnie. And stop falling! Falls are not good for folks of certain ages…
Sunny, owies on the tooth. Hope it not too expensive. And I’ll want copious notes on the Antarctica cruise for my planned 2023 trip.
OK, need to dress properly for Ice Cream and head on out. All y’all take care.
metal mouse, part of it is a personality conflict, part of it is his goals for the department (get rid of everyone at the top of the top hourly pay band and keep the budget down). His inexperience in management will likely bite him in the butt come PW audit time, but, by then, I hope to not be working for him.
Weight loss never leaves the zeitgeist, does it? Congratulations to all who have lost weight recently, some far more impressively than I managed. It sure does feel a lot better than I expected. More than an achievement, I literally feel healthier (and when I capitulate and indulge, unhealthier).
Made dinner(baked whitinf with {Penzey’s Mural of flaovr, brown and wild rice with shallots and mushrooms, and sauteed green and yellow wax beans with carrots. Sipping a Manhattan.
Gesundheit
If you can swing the pay, and you get bennies, do it! It feels good.
I had internet problems or would have posted earlier. All’s well now. I walked errands, went to the gym. Had a long talk with a conservative friend who’s anti-Trump and living in Trumpville: “I’m in hell,” he said. So are the liberals in that area. Strange times.
missred, you’re too good for that place, and while you’re probably too classy to thumb your nose at the inexperienced manager, I hope you do it mentally.
swampy, hope you feel better fast. That sounds like an old commercial for Con•Tac (“hundreds of tiny time pills”), but we hate having you under the weather.
Bumba, glad Vinnie is feeling better. I like his name.
Sunny, the cruise sounds great! How close do such cruises get to Antarctica? Like, can you disembark and walk around? Shake flippers with some congenial penguins? Waltz with a walrus?
flyboy, I’ll never read spanikopita on a menu without thinking of this, thanks to you.
I stopped by a few local dispos with my shiny new resume this afternoon, and got at least one interested-sounding hit, so I need to follow up with them somehow tomorrow.
Also two more places where I just need to email my resume directly.
Plus, tomorrow is my scheduled Jab v 2.0 and I hope it doesn’t climb on top of me like the first one did.
There’s rumor of the Aurora Borealis being visible tonight, due to sunspot activity, although I’m sure I’m too far south. Still, I may go for a bit for a drive - I lay down early, with the specific intention of a midnight jaunt out to the darker areas outside town, to see what I could see.
The lunar eclipse won’t be visible around here until nearly sunrise, so I may skip that one.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 67 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 94 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Thanks for all the healin’ vibes. I did stuff yestiddy mornin’ and then went AWOL the rest of the day. Much sleepin’ ensued. I feel somewhat better, but nuttin’ to write the home folk about. Today shall be a day of rest, sleep, and so forth. One thing, I do have an appetite. Sup shall be boxed lasagna (don’t judge!), sallit, and cheesey garlic bread.
I read all but retention is sorely lackin’, so yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlin’s, noogies, and how you doin’s all around, as needed.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
If I may answer, because we did the research - There are cruises that actually land in Antarctica and let passengers disembark. They’re on much smaller ships (hundreds rather than thousands of passengers) and MUCH more expensive. In addition to the higher cost of the cruise itself, passengers are required to have very specific and very expensive clothing to, you know, keep them alive in the extreme cold. I’m going to assume that Sunny is talking about the kind of cruise that we had booked (and canceled) where the ship goes around certain areas of the continent, but never actually drops anchor. We’re hoping to do that one day in the future after FCD recovers from all his impending surgeries.
Today, the rebirth of the basement floor begins! Before the workers get here, I have a few more things to remove and I want to do a quick sweep/vacuum to get up the big chunks of crud. They’re not due for another couple of hours, so once I’ve read my funnies, I’ll get it done. The big challenge for the day will be keeping Roxy entertained elsewhere - probably in her sandbox.
FCD is on The List - he fell in the garage this morning when he let the dog out. There was no reason for him to let the dog out - I generally take care of all that, but he’s as stubborn as his parents. Then he got all pissed at me for being angry with him, so for the moment, a tense silence reigns. Yeah, he really loves it when I point out how much like his parents he is. < deep cleansing breaths >
