It was Earth all along! (Simpsons question)

There was a Simpsons episode where Homer says something to the effect of “You bastards! It was Earth all along!” Very dramatic like, a’la the original Planet of the Apes. What was the full context of this and which episode was it?

You can scan through the archives to find out. I did a quick preliminary search and found nothing… but chances are you can get your hands on it, with enough persistence.

It’s from the musical “Stop the Planet of the Apes, I Want to Get Off” featured in the episode “A Fish Called Selma”. In it, Troy McClure’s agent suggests Troy get married to improve his image.

“I thought you said he was dead.”
“No. I said he “sleeps with the fishes.””

I believe he’s referring to the episode where Homer is recruited into NASA.

Homer, at a press conference, when asked if he felt it was dangerous to be sending unqualified people into space, replied that he would be fine, as long as he wasn’t sent to the Planet of the Apes.

Yep, although a different scene than the one you mention. I just found it, it’s the episode “Deep Space Homer”. Thanks for the Snpp link, I was gonna check there but I figured I would never find it. Their archives are alot more thorough than I thought for some reason…

a different scene? you mean that line wasn’t in the press conference scene? if i remember it correctly (and i admit it’s been awhile since i saw this episode), didn’t that scene go more or less like this…

“isn’t it dangerous to send untrained citizens into space?”
homer- “i’ll take this question. everything will be fine unless they send us to that terrible planet of the apes. wait a minute… statue of liberty… that was our planet!”
…homer falls to his knees…
“damn you! damn you all to hell!!”

that was the only scene that i recall being anything like planet of the apes. what scene did you find it in? as i said, i haven’t seen this episode in a long time.

I was wrong, my apologies, it was that scene. I was just remembering it a little differently.

The confusion stems from the fact that there are two episodes that come close to the OP, neither matches it exactly. In the NASA episode, Homer says “You bastards! You blew it up! Damn you all to Hell!”, just like Charlton Heston did in the film. In the Troy McClure marries Selma episode, McClure sings the line “It was Earth all along” in the musical version of Planet of the Apes, in which Troy plays the Heston role. Therefore, Cisco’s OP combined the two Simpsons quotes (one made up and said by McClure, one a direct quote of the film and said by Homer). So there ya’ go.
