It's 2008. What were your favorite SDMB "moments" of 2007?

Just curious about everyone’s favorite stuff that happened here on the boards in 2007. It can be anything from new members, debates, threads, “happenings”, updates, improvements, exits, lines, new memes… anything. Just what happened here that stands out as something you remember fondly.
I will hold myself back from starting a “worst moments” thread.

Sorry for the double post but as you are about to see I wanted to make my question and answer two separate posts because I didn’t want them to distract each other and I really am curious about other people’s favorite threads, debates, stories, and members, etc…

So what were my favorite SDMB moments of 2007?

To be quite honest I don’t think I can tell you. I was thinking back to last year and I wrote on a piece of paper of couple of them, then I checked to make sure that they fell in the year 2007. And what I was left with was a list of five things, and all of them were rather inappropriate.

One was a member who was so annoying in the beginning he required moderator “knock it off” correction. One was a post-padding party. One was a troll. One was a huge trainwreck in the Pit. And lastly, one of my OP’s which was, if not overly sarcastic, borderline trolling.

So while I do want to know what your favorite things are (they’re probably normal), my follow up question would be, what the fuck is wrong with me?

(To put it mildly  )

Enjoyed seeing Boyo Jim win the Bulwer-Lytton prize for Literary Awfulness.

Oh, oh!

I thought of a very obscure, but very cool one. Only a couple members will even remember this. While the new server was a nice thing, I had one of the most fun online not at the Dope, but at Bizzaro Dope!

Back before we moved to the new server jdavis set up access to the new server, only none of the SDMB content was updated. He basically just took a snapshot of what was over at SDMB and moved it to the new place, so there were all the same threads, but at the moment of transfer there would be no updates. None besides the temporary ones created by the members over there testing it out.

It was crazy, everything was opposite over there. Women had goatees, there were 3 words that ended in “gry”, and Qadgop was spelled with a “u”.

Sigh, but when we did move to the new server all our content was written over with the SDMB updates, and our playful postings disappeared forever. It’s nice having PM’s and an edit window, and the service has gotten better in general. But I look back on that time in the Bizarro Dope fondly.

See, it’s not that people don’t like you or your thread, beebs, it’s just that it’s kind of like someone asking you to tell your life story. I mean, where to begin?

I’ll give you a couple, though.

First, generally, I’d like to say how grateful I am for the MMPers. Last year was pretty ugly for me and it was nice having a group of people to either complain to or else to talk to about something completely different who weren’t all wrapped up in my day to day ugliness.

Second, let me give a specific instance of how the MMP saved Pie’s life. Early one morning when I was awakened by a nightmare that I was convinced was real, it was talking with **Noone Special ** that helped me get a grip, so to speak, on reality. And, for better or for worse (for him), he has since endeared himself to me.

Third, I was just thinking how much I enjoyed **Idle Thought’s ** ‘Party’ games.

What can I say? I just hope 2008 is better for you – at the very least enough to preclude the need for any kind of repeat performance!

I think my favorite moment was when I decided to jump into the water and post in the MMP. It’s become my playground ever since. Of course, the post that prompted me to respond was, to put it mildly, not a happy one… (no, not Pie’s; something else) but I’m happy I did respond.

How about one of the greatest pit backfires ever: the pampered chef trainwreck from back in February.

This is a pretty hard thread to add to without dredging up old stuff and possibly hurting other posters’ feelings.

So, to keep it nice and general, I will say I found the Great Banner Ad Exodus of 2007 pretty damn amusing. I mean, I was pissed… but some people were really pissed!

Vegas Dope 2007! The planning, and implementation, was a great deal of fun, and meeting the attendees in real life was the highlight of an otherwise pretty good year for me.

Too many threads to choose one, so I’m going to say lobstermobster’s MS Paint masterpieces. Always look forward to those…

RickJay’s Amway post will likely always be a LOL favorite of mine.

Mine was, without a doubt, the thread about a certain food tasting like a certain other…um, well, it’s not food, but it does get eaten.

I’m sure someone with more time and interest will post a link shortly.

I posted a lot more in 2007 than in any other year so far. Mafia 3 was probably the instigator. That was a pretty wild time, and though we Masons didn’t pull through, the town did, so I was still on a winning team. GO TOWN!! Thanks again to all who played…I hope I’ll have time for another game this year.

Also, I very much enjoyed our little Brooklyn Dopefest. Now that I’m back in Chicago, I’ll be sure to get myself to a Dopefest here!

Ooh, thanks. Me too!

some might think of this as the worst of 2007, but my nomination is the train wreck that was:

MizGrand’s advice-seeking post

which turned into a pitting of RSSchen

which spawned a pitting of the jackels who posted

pure SDMB entertainment, IMHO!

Oh, that was awesome! I also enjoyed the spate of “why do black people ____?” and how dumb it was that some of them could have spawned legitimate threads (perhaps many black families do the whole weekend-in-the-park-with-family-cookout thing?) but were drawn into the exact sort of thing that the outrage that drew them there was about.

A year of threads by Sauron.

I liked the thread where everyone had one poster convinced that they thought monopoly was getting rid of paper money.

I seriously love reading **Sauron’s ** stuff. I’ll second this nomination!

Here you go.

Nother Sauron fan here too. He’s a righteous dude.
