It's 2008. What were your favorite SDMB "moments" of 2007?

The most riveting moments were the posts in the Virigina Tech massacre thread by Lord Il Palazzo

I thought the trainwreck involving a diminutive shopkeeper from Britain was entertaining, and prompted my first Pit thread.

Let’s not turn this thread into a discussion of those who are no longer with us, please.

I need to start with the **Scylla’s ** I waterboard! thread. Wow, just wow.

Tuckerfan’s Nova’s Documentary on the Dover Schoolboard Suit on PBS was a really interesting thread and despite the topic, stayed pretty well on topic the entire time.

Following along with **eleanorigby ** as she read the Lord of the Rings in this thread: LOTR question(s). But hey, their is only a few dozen of us that would really enjoy that thread I guess.

I am not sure why, probably because **Marley23 ** is such an excellent writer, but this thread was compelling. ‘It’s not a tumah’- no wait, it is

There is always one or two multi-week or multi-month baseball threads each year. My own was one of the best. It lasted 1 month. MLB: How’s your team doing? How about vs. what you expected?

A favorite moment for me was the Jersey Dopefest the Third: Sunday June 10th at 2pm.

For fun there was **Idle Thoughts ** Family Feud! game thread. Until we got shut down, it was an extremely fast moving and fun game.

An Ode to an Oak Tree (with Pictures) by **Tully Mars ** was a beautiful Op. Well worth the read.

Also Ogre’s surprising story of his encounter in New Orleans. My little dragonfly buddy

Of course we had the First Cecil Post since 10-08-2005.

Meek’s SDMB ~ The Epic Musical Sequel is a great thread with some fun SDMB oriented song Parodies.

Of course the Year started out with the epic chain of events: Thank you, Dopers and (eventually) Pitters! leading to A pitting of Liberal and the Mods that let it happen. which somehow hooked into this thread To Liberal: I’m not pitting you… I’m just confused and a slight shorter followup A note on the (now closed) thread A note on the (now closed) thread. Not a favorite moment, but very noteworthy.
I think I might be missing one related thread.

I would also say the Bizzaro Dope was a lot of fun.

Jim

One of my all-time favorites was a thread that started with a picture of a barn impossibly supported by two pillars on one side, that Dopers then started Photoshopping the picture in hilarious ways. I can’t find the thread, but if it was this year, I nominate that.

When a certain Doper almost brought an uninvited (and out of the country) Doper to a Dopefest, except it was not really that Doper, is was an imposter, who never did study up on the volumes of material that he was supposed to, but then it was actually given to the real Doper when he moved into town, and hilarity ensued. What a quest that was!

And then there was Birthdopefest. Good times, good times!

Everything mentioned here has been great. I’m going to throw in my How hard can I hit some-one in the face with a trout without killing them? thread, particularly Mindfield’s contribution.

I am going to double post here because first I must ask Auto, to empty his fucking PM box! (it’s full)

Done and done.

Okay, I got permission for a few of these…

  1. Auto … February, good Gawd man.

  2. Call me ThreadKiller™!

  3. nm

  4. It’s already been brought up, but adultery has never been so fun to watch.

  5. I found a really cool girl I want to meet. Should I ask her out? (it was just really fun watching the responses.)

I’m pretty sure the Mafia games debuted on the SDMB in 2007. I wouldn’t be back here were it not for those.

I think you forgot 2 or 3 links here. Was nm, nevermind?

Autolycus, I forgot about your trout thread, that was a fun one.
**tdn ** & cmkeller, where’s the links?

No links, this happened IRL. I’d tell the story, but it’s bbs2k’s story to tell. That is his quest.

As a lurker / minor participant, I loved the Risotto, **Bacon Salt **, **Hitting-with-Trout **and a few other threads…

Did “Can Superman Pull off His Own Head?” happen in 2007? If so, that was huge.

**lieu ** had me in stitches with any number of posts, but I have to go with his risotto post as the one that still makes me want to snort all over my keyboard. You can see it if you click on the thread link posted by him in this thread…

Oh and **lobstermobster **gets kudos for flippin’ that kid’s mom the bird - that was a funny thread, complete with diagram!

On a personal note, there was that **Who vs. Zep ** thread in Cafe Society that was cool - the thread was a good ol’ standard music thread started by Southern Yankee, but by posting on it, I found out that other Dopers were interested in some of the music geekiness I bring to the party, or, as Sally Field might say “you like me - you really like me!”

So, the story.

Basically I had my first dopefest this summer. And I’m a prank-full jerk by nature so I had to do something outlandish.** Auto**, whom I’ve already mentioned, put himself on my radar earlier this year.

Later, like in summer, tdn proposed a Boston dopefest.

My brother is fascinated with my online obsession. I told him I was meeting internet people in real life and he wanted to come as well. “I’ll just say I’m some guy online, how will they know?” So who falls in my brother’s age (22-25) and has a reason to be in Boston? Why** Auto **of course.

So I printed out a bunch of his threads so my brother could impersonate him at a Dopefest, but at the last minute he backed out.
It would have been great, :: shakes fist ::.

And now the tome rests in my apartment, oh yeah! The comments are great

Autolycus seems to have highlighted the year for many of us. I’m still laughing over Good night, Auto. Good work. Sleep well. I’ll most likely fire you in the morning from February 25.

Well, we NASCAR fans don’t post a lot, but we did have a good time in the SDMB NASCAR fantasy league.

Drainbead, you’re right. Mafia made it’s debut on the Dope in Feb. Werewolf! I thought it had been longer than that. Certainly the mafia games have been a big part of my Doping this year! I’ve made a bunch of great new friends. Thanks to **Revenant Threshold ** for bringing it here.

I can’t remember my favorite moments from last week! But a lot of this reminiscing is making me smile.
