**taxi, ** “RDO” stands for regular day off. For instance, my pay period is 80 hours. The first week, I work four nine hour days and one eight hour day. The following week, I work four nine hour days, and have Friday off.
Basically, I have every other Friday off. Thankfully, a lot of my RDOs seem to coincide with three day weekends, so I end up with four day weekends.
Welcome home, LiLi and Little Bug! Yes, by all means sleep when he sleeps. Even if you hadn’t had a section, that’s good advice – but having had one, do not worry about anything except you and him for a while! And sleeping in a carseat is totally normal; Young Tiger slept better in his carseat than in his bed, I swear. There’s something about the angle that babies love or something.
Gotti, the Firday thing came about as a result of one of Haze’s drunken posts. She spelled it that way, and needless to say, we ran with it. Some misspellings are meant to be.
I’m still working on super-SUPER-rush job. I’m getting close to the end, so I need to get back to it. Then I need to take a shower and run to KMart – I decided that in honor of the new sheets, I’m going to get myself some new pillows, too, since mine are in thoroughly cruddy condition. And if I get king size pillows instead of my current standard ones, not only can I use the new pillowcases but, more importantly, when Emily decides to hog my pillows, there might still be room for my head. Sometimes I wake up finding myself sleeping on two inches of pillow. :smack:
“Balsam” sounds like a pretty color, taxi, just from the name. Is it a bright or muted shade? I assume it’s some kind of a green. Yes, I’m a real rocket scientist some days.
Okay, back to work. My eyes are tired from staring at the computer screen, so I need to get the job done before I fall asleep!
ETA: Yes, get thee to the doctor NOW, Taters! Better safe than sorry!!
More fallout from last night’s server incident. To quote Dire Straits, it’s been a “panic on the switchboard, tummies in knots” kind of event. Naturally, I’m on call this weekend, so it might not be a blissfully quiet weekend.
I’m angling to get MLK day off. But for now, I’m gonna angle myself out of here and find some lunch.
My tooth just needed to be filed down a bit. The dentist will put a plastic filling on it in 2 weeks.
Work is still crawling with cops and locksmiths, with a side order of paranoia. Wee. Today was *supposed * to be quiet. Next week’s staff meeting will should be interesting!
Taters, have you made an appointment with your doctor yet?
Snarl. Hiss. Just got back from the DMV and got my new ugly red-state tags. Whoever thought changing the numbers from blue to red was a good idea needs to be fired posthaste. UG-LY. As I said in the “What did your mother teach you” thread, my mother taught me how to match colors and there is too much red on the new license plates.
The fact that it cost $283 when I was only expecting a $35 charge wasn’t happy-making either. There go my new glasses. Fuckers.
Fortunately tonight there will be bacon-wrapped shrimp and Guinness. Then I’ll borrow some allspice and molasses from Adopted Mom and make a Guinness gingerbread cake for my birthday. I know what I want and I’m going to make it. And I’m going to eat it, too. No one else gets a piece of my cake without my express, written permission.
Except maybe the folks at movie night if it lasts till Wednesday. I do need to lose some weight, yanno.
Glad to have you back LiLi and many many congratulations to you and Mr Lissar
Rest when you can.
Today has been odd all round. Crazy busy and I am tired. But we got free tickets to the local Ice Hockey game tonight so I am going along to that instead of home to the couch as planned.
I need to get out more.
What do I want for lunch is the next burning question of the day
Thankfully, that bit of decor is about to be obliterated - I think that’ll be my 3-day weekend - demolition! I don’t think 20 years will help that piece o’crap sink. The previous owners apparently used super-abrasives to clean it, and destroyed the surface of the bowl. Pics for the soon-to-be-horrified… As for the orange shag and mirrored tiles - gone gone all long gone!!!
We got 59 minutes today, so I came home, parked the little car, hopped in the van, and drove to WalMart for some groceries. I wasn’t buying so many that I needed a van - I’m just making an effort to drive the van at least weekly to keep rodents from eating the wires again. Anyway, I stocked up on some fresh produce and a few other miscellaneous things, and I was home shortly after 3, so I made good use of my free hour. Groceries are unpacked, critters are fed, and I’m waiting for FCD. He’s almost an hour late today, thanks to a late meeting. Supper is going to be whatever we grab - I don’t feel like cooking.
At work, our branch had a meeting and Al told us that big changes are coming - potentially VERY big. Big enough that the decision is being made at the Secretary of Defense level. We’re supposed to find out come March. Honestly, my only hope is that I don’t have to commute to DC. That would truly suck. No stress in my life. Nope. No problem with the pending graduation and wedding and move and now job crap. No stress at all… <sigh> I’m Zen.
Times like this, I almost wish I liked to get drunk.
Oh yeah - welcome back, LiLi!! Where the heck are the pictures?!?!?
Oh, my, FCM! I was thinking of a blue porcelain sink like my grandmother has (along with a blue toilet and a blue bathtub. And a pink shower. In the same bathroom. Don’t ask.) That is *astoundingly * ugly.
I’ve got the blue toilet and blue tub, but that sink is a faux marble on a really cheezy base - the wallpaper on the doors is the same as the border around the ceiling. Truly a hideous piece. I shall enjoy disassembling it.
Your comment about the pink shower reminded me of my very first apartment. I had an after-dinner mint kitchen - light yellow and light green tile counters and backsplash, and a pink fridge. It was stunning…
This was the longest, stressiest week I’ve had in a long time. Monday thru Thursday were all 16 hour days, two of them ending with public hearings at which I had to sit on a stage and get yelled at by parents that don’t want their kids moved from one school to another.
The boss, his family, me and the Wife hit the sports bar last night. Following which, I came home and got drunker. And took today off to do absolutely nothing.
Cuervo and Bear are playmates in every sense of the word. They take tunrs chasing each other all over the house, and occasionally stop to rassle. The downside, is Scarlett has taken ill. Doc Laura says it’s a virus that lots of cats have but that lies dormant until they’re stressed. She just got used to Cuervo, so now she’s all stressed again. Sneezing a lot, and her appetite is down a little but she got some antibiotics, and is feeling a bit better already.
It’s going to be somewhere near absolute zero here tomorrow, something like 46 gazillion below zero. Brrr.
I have to say, with no insult to you, FCM, that that is the ugliest sink I have ever laid eyes on. The thought of it being gone makes me very happy. Your master bath is great, so I’m sure whatever you do with this one will turn out well.
My roommate had a couple of friends over last night and made sushi. I wasn’t too sure about it, but I was invited to have some, so I did…and it was yummy! There can’t be too many small towns where you can get such nice tuna. Mmmmmmm. I guess I’ll have to branch out and try some different kinds now.
We’re still waiting for baby pics! (Only when you’re up to them, really, it’s just fun to bug you about it, LiLi.)
You’re not insulting me, snowbunny. I didn’t buy the sink, just the house it came in. While the replacement is similar in that it’s faux marble, it’s in subdued creamy shades, and I know not to scrub the dickens out of it. I haven’t decided what the accent color will be, but I’m guessing “not blue.” We may let the newlyweds make that choice since it’ll be their bathroom, mostly.
I’m not doing any kind of cooking or cleaning up (other than removing the shrimp from the plates and eating them). Adopted Dad offered to take me out for my birthday early and I decided last night that I really wanted bacon-wrapped shrimp. He might be out back grilling them now.
Next Tuesday. Mark your calendars. I’ll be another year closer to 30.
FCM: oh, that sink is the type that looks dirty even when it’s clean. I cheer its removal.
Pthibbit. Pics will be up when Mr. Lissar gets them up, which will be after he finishes the laundry.
I’ve had a nap in my own bed, and a shower, and I’m clean. Thank heaven. And if I ever ever have another c-section I am getting a single room, price be damned. Everyone in my ward room was lovely except the people right next to me, who had their #^%*#ing toddler in the room on Wednesday night until almost three.
In the morning. Talking loudly and crinkling plastic bags.
It stressed me out so much more than the kid. I kept almost falling asleep, and then being forced back into life.
I had a minor hysterical fit at Mr. Lissar and the night nurse yesterday, and the nurse tossed the kid and father out at eleven. Lord, it was peaceful.
Welcome home, LiLi and Nathaniel!!! I’d just repeat what the other Moms have already said, so won’t, except to add that yes, you’ve had major abdominal surgery and let the hubbies take care of you!!
So glad that it’s Firday - and yes, we have a holiday on Monday. It’s going to be too cold to do anything much, though, so I’ll probably just catch up on reading and may watch some good movies (hopefully something decent will be on Turner Classic Movies!). I’ve also got plenty of stuff I can cook or bake, so definitely have things to keep me busy. LOL
Glad to hear about Cuervo and Bear getting along so well, MBG, although sad to hear that Miss Scarlet is not faring so well–thinking good thoughts for her stress levels!
Hugs to all those who need them.
ETA: Taters, that could have been a gallbladder attack too; still you do need to see a doctor about it. Thinking good thoughts & prayers for you too!
FCM I have that exact same sink, only in green, and it’s in the same condition, so I think abrasives probably have nothing to do with it, it’s just cheap. My tub is avocado, and I have a newer toilet, so I suspect there was an avocado toilet here at one time. I will be sooo glad when I have the finances to remodel this place. Very little has been updated here since 1978.
