It's a 99 Party MMP!

Morning Mumpers! Another long day of work.

Interesting game, Taters. I like the drinking part.

Keep your voices down, BooFae has a headache!

:lights fire under kai: get to it young lady(after your nap)!

OOOH! That sounds like a buncha fun and a hooty time Taters! The combo of drinkin’, cards, food and money, well, what’s not to like? I think I might just print out the OP and get up a 99 party at da cave in the near future.

Up and caffienatin’ here. Also feelin’ a bunch better this mornin’. My haid ain’t as fuzzy and my sinuses are clearin’ up. YAY!

I don’t have to be at work until 9:30 - 10:00 this mornin’. Course I may be there til 9:00 - 10:00 this evenin’ with a couple hours break in the afternoon. Strange hours but hours I can get used to keepin’. After I get myself all established and more comfy with stuff I’ll be able to do stuff like take off early on Friday or even take Friday off on occasion, so that ain’t so bad.

Ok, off for more caffiene, some food and purtification.

Later Y’all!

OoooOOOOO, card games!

Mom spent a long weekend at a relative’s house in December and came back with the knowledge of something called the Continental. That game gets messy so easily I’m sure it has to be great as a mental exercise. The relative who taught it to Mom is 87 and the youngest of the four ladies who get together every afternoon to play it. She’s the kind of person who should have kept a diary because the things that she considered “everyday ocurrences” are historical events to many others (she used to be personal assistant for one of El Generalísimo’s closest relatives).
Here’s how you play it:
you need two packs of cards. Mix them thoroughly.
Give N cards to each player; flip one up. There’s twelve rounds to a game, the amount of cards changes.
The starting player decides whether he wants the card that’s faceup; if he does, he takes it, if not, he takes from the top of the pile; then he discards one card. If he didn’t want that faceup card, the next player can say “I take it” (then the third, fourth… also can “stop the card”) and set it aside until it’s his turn - this means the player who’s stopped the card doesn’t have the choice to take a different one, it must be the stopped card.
The next player does the same, etc etc… until one player gets the right combination for that particular round.
The player who’s combined flips the cards he’s combined face-up; other players can add cards to his combination (the player who’s laid the combination down can, too). Players who have partial combinations still can not lie them down at this point, unless this partial combination leaves their hand empty.
The game continues; if another player gets a full combination he can also lie it down (faceup and other players can add to it). The round ends when one player gets rid of all his cards. Once a player “closes”, others can lie down any partial combinations they have (for example one trio, but not one pair) or add some of their cards to the combinations on the table before points are counted.

Punctuation: count the worth of the cards players didn’t get rid of; at the end of the game, the person with the least points wins. Jacks are worth 11, queens 12 and kings 13.

First round: 8 cards, make 2 threes.
Second: 8 cards, make 3 3-card flushes.
Third: 8 cards, 1 trio and 1 flush.
Fourth: 12 cards, 3 threes.
Fifth: 12 cards, 3 flushes.
Sixth: 12 cards, 2 threes and 1 flush.
Seventh: 12 cards, 1 three and 2 flushes.
Eighth: 15 cards, 4 threes.
Nine: 15 cards, 4 flushes.
Tenth: 15 cards, 2 threes and 2 flushes.
Eleventh: 15 cards, 1 three and 3 flushes.
Twelfth: 15 cards, 3 threes and 1 flush.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll go feed the family. Spaghetti with meatballs, of course in tomato sauce. Anybody want some?

ENVY

I got up five minutes after the alarm (if you don’t count the fifteen minutes before the alarm that PeterCat decided to yowl). Did about 15 minutes of yoga, now I’m drinking a cup of coffee I made yesterday and never got a chance to drink and eating my organic oatmeal. Look at me, I’m so health conscious.

I need to go to the store in a little bit and get started on the new semester. Thesis/Comps death march begins…TODAY.

Forgot to say: no jokers. To play Continental, not in the MMP… lots of joking Mumpers is good!

Note to self: Do not go out on a school night, ever again. Oh, my head…

Y’all are being entirely too loud in here. Shh!

We had a blast, though! Tommy Chong is one funny mofo, that’s for sure! As is his wife Shelby.

Ergh.

Good morning.

Waiting for the midwife to show up. It’s too early. There’s a slight possibility of things progressing. Maybe. Not in labour yet, though. I think midwives are allergic to sleep. They actually snwer you when youi page them at ungodly hours of the night. Also, the kidlet was having a fit 12-3. Yawn. Am sleepy.
I need hot chocolate and a whole bunch of cheese straws. :heads for snack area:

Blurf. Mornin’, y’all.

That 99 party sounds different than the one I found via Google. Get me trashed learning a new game involving money, and you could probably get my car in the deal too. :frowning:

Not much to say today. I’ll be busy at work, and I’m going through the pains of new cell phones not yet set up to suit my tastes.

Exciting life I got, ain’t it?

::Still looking for a stork for LiLi::

::volunteers ninja skillz to MCUNE::

::kicks Lunch in the ass when he’s not looking::

::the offer to grope Haze while sober still stands::

::squid and chocolate as appropriate for everyone else::

My water may have broken, so we’re packing for a possible hospital trip for consultation and possibly inducing. If it’s a false alarm, I’ll let you guys know. Silence is a likely sign that we’ve gone in, at least for bloodwork and stuff.

Of course it would be the day when I got four hours of sleep from internal baby hysterics.

Grump.

taters, you done good! Great OP! ::Places crock pot of mini stuffed cabbages on the buffet:: Here’s my five dollah.

::Hands boo fae a bottle of water and a cheese burger.:: Trust me on this one, dear.

::Pouts cause TNC failed to appear in the wee hours.::

rebo, you got to meet Tommy Chong??? I am sooooooo jealous!

Not much to report on over the weekend. But I skeert myself this morning. I was on the treadmill when all of a suddink I thought it was the Monday I was supposed to do the OP. Oh, noooooooooo. Then I realized I had a whole nuther week. I am on for the 21st, aren’t I?

li-li, did I say 1:14 a.m.??? Ha, ha. I meant P.M. Yeah, that’s right.

Tupug

Ditto.
Explanation: In the last couple days, Cuervo and Bear have discovered they can play together. Or rather Cuervo has decided he won’t eat and kill Bear, and that oh heck, this guy at least likes to run around the house noisily.

At 2:45 AM.

and at 3:30 AM

and at 4:30 AM.

So that’s a 99 party, eh? I recommend you don’t invite Papa Tigs; he not only balances the checkbook without using a calculator, he can count cards in blackjack and he doesn’t drink. He’d scoop every pot. Although, come to think of it, I’d share in his winnings, so sure, we’d love to play!  We’ll bring…oh, I dunno, something yummy. Papa Tigs is the cook, not me! Probably one of his Guamanian snacks. Just watch out for the finadini sauce, it’s scorching hot!

Hey, you’re the one who got Cuervo a playmate, MBG! Can’t complain now about them playing together.

I actually set an alarm to pry myself out of bed this morning, just because I felt like I should. I’ll take a nap later, I’m sure; but I started feeling a lot better last night, so I’m hoping it continues today. I’m still a bit stiff and achy in my neck and shoulders from it all, but that I can live with since that’s where I always collect tension anyway. I’ll put the heating thingy around my neck later if it doesn’t ease up.

Water breaking? Might TNC finally be making his arrival? I certainly hope so! Come on, TNC! You’ve got a whole crowd of aunts and uncles here waiting for you to appear so we can spoil you rotten!

I enjoy the Pern books, too, as long as I don’t allow myself to ask certain questions (i.e. how come Thread never falls at night?). But they’re good escapist reading. And I was quite astonished to discover, when I was in Ireland in '94 on my I-won-the-trip-on-Jeopardy trip, that Anne McCaffrey was actually listed in the Dublin phone book! I even called to see if I could stop by for a cup of tea, as she invites her readers to, but alas, she was in the US. :frowning: But it was still fun giving it a shot.

Off to caffeinate some more.

I’m such a Doper/MMP geek. I took an ambulance run yesterday, and part of our hospital procedures is getting a face sheet ( don’t know if that’s the right spelling or why it’s called that), which is a summary of a patient’s registration info. We use it kind of like a receipt for leaving the patient.

Anyway, I went to get one of these from the unit secretary, and she wanted a bribe of chocolate. Without missing a beat, I offered her a squid instead.

Shoshana has nominated him (her?) self as drinks bitch. I’ll try to play, but my math is rusty. Seriously–that rusty. If I fail ($5 is a LOT of money for me), I will be drinks bitch #2–aka ice cube dispenser and coaster wiper.

I think LiLi is in for a rude awakening–OF COURSE the kidlet chose today to go into labor–BECAUSE she got so little sleep. If she were well rested the ninja wouldn’t be arriving. Silly** LiLi**. I hope all goes well. If her water did break, she will be admitted–here is USA, water breaking=need controlled delivery environment otherwise delivery is considered “dirty”(after 24 hours) and she won’t be allowed on the maternity unit.

Nava: “N cards”? Is that supposed to be 9 or Nine or nine or none or…
In a rare spurt of ambition and energy, I vacuumed the whole basement and first floor this morning AND ran my two errands. I may not be eleanorigby…
Class starts today. I am off to watch more House and knit badly. I like my lil cocoon of doing nothing. It suits me.

MamaTigs–I hadn’t thought of Thread falling at night, but what about rain? I picture thread as a viscous slightly opaque substance–thin gel. How come it never rains in Pern? They’re ok–it’s light reading which is suiting me well at present.

Good morning all.

Taters, that sounds like a great game. I miss having friends that play cards… Hubby gets bored, and most of our current circle are too hyper to pay attention.

My first husband’s family loved to play Double Deck Pinochle, royal rummy and back yard bridge. The last one is really fun if you have lots of people. You play it like bridge or canasta, with 2 decks, except each hand has a differnt number of cards. First hand has just 4 cards, 2 cards added to each subsequent hand, until all the cards are dealt, then the hands go down by 2 cards, back to 4.

Anyway, our weekend was pretty quiet. We drove to the other side of the earth to look at a wheelchair acces van for Hubby’s mom. She got a power chair for Christmas, now she wants to use it. It won’t fit in their current car.

Hubby had a gall bladder attack last week. I thought I was going to have to lock him up. Every time he started feeling a little bette, he’d eat something full of fat. He wondered why he was in so much pain.
Men! You can’t live with 'um, can’t bury them in the back yard…

He was much better as he headed off to save lives and alleviate suffering this morning. Of course, I didn’t fix him breakfast at 4:00 AM. He’s working at a different station this month. It’s a longer drive.

I’m off to tackle a mountain of laundry.

w00t! w00t! w00t!

I’m honor bound to not reveal numbers, but the VunderBoss just stopped by my little corner of Cubeville, and told me I got a raise. It exceeds the US cost of living adjustment, too.

Yay for raises, Bobbio!

Great MMP, Taters. Sounds like a way cool game!

I’m feeling much better, now. I was hurting just a bit earlier.

Yay for water breaking! I was just reading Hal Briston’s thread - they’re having a baby very soon too, probably today. Babies bustin’ out all over!

Ok - better start earning my pay…

Bad news: this one chick I can’t stand is in my class.

Good news: an old friend is in my class!

(these are not the same people, btw)

Off to eat lunch because I skipped breakfast (bite me) and now am hungry!

Semi-vertical, semi-caffeinated, semi-conscious, yet fully in the office. Probably not a good combination.

For those keeping score, DH is still unemployed. He did get a call from a company he sent a resume to, and they sounded excited, so that’s a hopeful sign.

We started tidying up the garage yesterday. Lots to go, but we can at least now walk from one end to the other since I got the xmas stuff back up on the shelves.

In weird news, we witnessed the beginnings of a suicide attempt on Saturday. The news has it slightly wrong - we were on our way to an 11:00 appointment when we saw her stop the car and go to the railing, so it was about 10 or 15 minutes before 11, rather than slightly after. Zipping along at 60 MPH, it took a bit of time to assemble what we’d seen, and when we tried to call 911, we just kept getting a busy. After three tries, we gave up, assuming that every phone on the bridge was trying to call 911. The weird thing is that it was on the Bay Bridge. The overwhelming majority of jumpers do it from the Golden Gate.
