Um, the doctor’s office is closed for the weekend, Special One. I will call on Tuesday, I promise.
Ah, Soylent Green…I remember that movie well.

**LiLi ** - cute kidlet! You realize, of course, that they have to be cute because after they wake you for the fifty-bazillionth time and you’re barely functioning on autopilot, you’d take anything that wasn’t cute and mail it to some far-away place so you can rest. I hope you settle into a rhythm soon so you don’t get too frazzled.
Lili He is beautiful.
I am up and breakfasted. I have the sinus headache from hell.
I need to get my butt in the shower then to the the post office and then swing by the ATM to grab some cash then off to watch the basketball game this afternoon.
I went to my first ice hockey game last night - It was a ton of fun!.
Then I must clean my house and do performence appraisals
Aw cute baby! :: makes cooing noises ::
rigs, funnily enough, that is my real name. As for the food processor, I do believe I have one somewhere. Good to be prepared.
:: get-well kisses for ems and anyone else in need ::
I want to make chili but this would entail going outside to buy some salsa. Outside. Where it’s cold. :: whine ::
Cute baby, welcome to the MMP, Gnat!
Scarlett is still sick, she’s eating some, but not as much as would make me happy. I got some nutrient paste and some tuna nibbly treats to get something in her and keep up her appetite. I think she goes back to Doc Laura on Monday.
It’s coooold here. Ick.
On the bright side, I got my game tickets for Arizona on line today. Three games in a row the week we’re there to see the Sox, I have almost the same seats, right behind the Sox dugout, 2nd or 3rd row. Wheeeee!
Ahem, swampy, taco soup recipe please?
Haze and** rigs**, eeeew also, you definitely need a heavy duty food processor like a kitchenaid or a cuisinart for that sort of thing.
**
Li-Li**, he is veeeery cute!!!
What?
We just woke up from a nap here. Now I’m working on lunch. It’s pre-made Chicken parmesan and pasta with meat sauce. (Yes, I know, but meat sauce is all that we have around here and I’m not going out to buy something different.)
I thought you only did that at night and in room 304. It’s an all-day thing now?
My baby is coming home! YAAAY!
In the mail today, she got an invitation to the county teacher job fair next month. They’ll be doing interviews and stuff with principals and others. So she’s taking 2 days off from her internship and we’re flying her into BWI on a Thursday. Round trip from Orlando - $159 - another yay! Plus she arrives about the time **FCD ** gets off work, and he’s not too far from BWI, which saves us a lot of driving. Yet another yay!! Then after the job fair, we get her all to ourselves all day Saturday before taking her back to BWI on Sunday.
The only thing needed to make it perfect is for her to get a job offer out of it. I’ll be asking for crossed appendages as the time gets closer.
I’ve got the eggplant salted in preparation for building the lasagna. I’m hungry, and it sounds yum. Off to the kitchen with me.
Oh yeah - we went to the shelter looking at kittehs - **FCD ** really misses Brandy. But no one there grabbed his heart. As for me, there were 2 or 3 I’d have brought home. Oh well…
Chili is on the stove. It’s a rather haphazard chili, but oh well. Too lazy to do it properly.
MBG, I hope Scarlett feels better soon. Poor sick kitty.
Wow! Listen to that…ah…the sound of silence…it’s so nice!
Hubby is gone on errands, son is out paintballing, and daughter just left to go to the movies with friends. So, although I should be cleaning, I snuck in here for just wee moment.
Ugh, have you ever looked at your house, just before you start cleaning it, and feel just a little overwhelmed? Yeah, that’s me right now.
It’s not awful, but it’s not company clean. I did steam clean the stairs last night. They look 100% better.
Today, I need to clean downstairs, vacuum, dust, wash floors, scrub the powder room, and start working on my own bedroom. I asked the kids to fold and put away clothes. Yeah, they folded them alright, but just dumped the whole pile on my dresser and ironing board.
It’s not like I’m expecting anyone to go up there, but I would like it tidy in case the powder room is being used and someone else needs to use the bathroom off my bedroom.
Well, there’s no use putting off the inevitable. Onward!
Behbeh!
Kitteh!
CUTE!
Girls! There’s no need to fight… Why don’t you take turns?
Also, Cutie, I think we could use your help making that Soylent Green stuff. industrial Kitchen and all that…
**Taters **-- I am sooooo with you on The Sound of Silence!
**Lili **-- **LittleBug **is so cute!
Who are the holders? Two of the “daughters”?
**ems **-- hope you feel better!
AWWWWWWWWWWWW!!! Little Gnat is so keeeeeyooooote LiLi!
Ahem, swampy, taco soup recipe please?
Taco Soup ala Paula Deen. This is the recipe I use so I figured it was just easier to link to it rather than type it all out. I’m all about efficiency. Plus I’m lazy. ![]()
Still cold, rainy and dreary here. We’ve done nuttin’ (well, outside of makin’ waffles and soup) all day. Soon I shall commence makin’ purty to go to friends’ house for lasagna. MMMMMMM… she makes good lasagna and it’s a cold day so 'twill make it even bettah!
Later Y’all!
Eggplant lasagne is in the oven - pretty much what I ended up doing was making my usual recipe, but with slices of eggplant instead of pasta. It’s very cheesy, although I kinda wish I’d used more mozzarella. We shall see.
Doggies have been fed and taken out. It’s in the mid-30s out there - the kind of cold that just creeps to your bones. If I was more motivated, I’d lay a fire. I think maybe I’m motivated enough to grab an afghan. And I’m starving - that lasagna better be good!
I think I found the wall color for our bedroom–autumn wheat from Home Depot. I may purchase and paint tomorrow. I feel the need to Do Something Productive.
My cookies didn’t really turn out (like that stopped any of us from eating them) because I only had 1/4 of white sugar left. I need to go food foraging-ugh.
That’s a nice looking baby you’ve got there, LiLi.
I’m going to kill Rowa… err, Driving Husband. He’s got everyone calling TNC Gnat.
QD just left after cleaning the kitchen. The midwife wants to clone her for all pregnant women- she’s supportive, not afraid of medical stuff, can check incisions and cleans everything.
There’s some slightly better pics up on my blog. THe first one is my Mum holding him. I like it.
Naptime. Kid’s asleep.
**LiLi ** - I think Gnat is adorable as a nickname. It’s just too cute! Sorry.
Well, eggplant lasagna isn’t going into the rotation. It smelled good, but the flavor was just meh, and I really don’t like eggplant unless it’s breaded and fried, which doesn’t really go with our plan of eating better. Oh well, I’ve got lunches for a week.
It’s snowing. Really just flurries, but it’s still white stuff falling from the sky. No accumulation is expected, which is fine - no shoveling.
It’s been a mostly non-productive day, apart from the cooking. Maybe I’ll do better tomorrow. Or not. We’ll see.

Hah! It’s in the single digits here. New England Gentleman wants me to come to a party of a mutual acquaintance of ours so I can meet his latest lady friend, but I am seriously considering staying home. It’s TOO F–KING COLD to breathe out there, and going to this bar would mean I’d have to wear something that would probably not be very warm.
I just made some of these muffins again. I dunno if any of you have tried making these since the last time I’ve posted the recipe, but here’s what I’ve discovered - the way the original recipe is set up is just too much butter and sugar, and the muffins themselves are a bit plain. I doubled the amount of nutmeg and cinnamon, sprinkled in some cloves for the topping, and added a splash of vanilla to the batter, and instead of rolling the entire muffin in butter I just dipped the tops. I like these much better than the first batch I made, where I followed the recipe to a T and ended up with big balls of sugar-coated heart attacks. I also recommend making them fairly small and pulling them out just at the 20 minute mark. Perfection.
I’m going to kill Rowa… err, Driving Husband. He’s got everyone calling TNC Gnat…
I’m guessing wildly that he cooperated in the news thread that QD posted. Linked so that you can visit it and read additional Doper good wishes, if you haven’t already.
Nice pics - he’s very cute. Kitty among books is a cute pic too. QD is always welcome at my house, even though I’m not likely to be a Mom anytime soon. I’ve made a list of all the stuff I need to do in the next few days and am currently avoiding all of them. So, yeah, Taters, you’re not the only one looking around and feeling overwhelmed. I’m trying to combine advice from the FlyLady and from David Allen’s Getting Things Done. I’m using OmniFocus, which is very nice software (only available for Mac, I think), that ties nicely into my laptop calendar.
Forgot to send good wishes for Miss Scarlett, MBG. Hope her stress level goes down as she gets used to the additional kitteh.
I almost made those muffins before Christmas, Hank, but wound up making banana bread instead due to an oversupply of very ripe bananas. Still need to try them.
It takes a while to get comfortable with making eggplant, I think, FCM. I love it in ratatouille and also in a really complicated recipe that goes with a bleu cheese sauce that I haven’t made in about 20 years. And in baba ganouj, which I’ve never made myself. There’s probably some really obvious dish I’ve forgotten… I’ll need to go check out a couple of my cookbooks. For some reason, this reminds me that I was going to make borscht. I make a yummy vegetarian one. (I never thought I’d like something beet-based until I tried it out of politeness once; it’s delish.) Bought the ingredients last weekend and need to make it tomorrow.
Had a fun meeting at the park this morning. We’re starting to plan all of our activities for the year.
Need to ponder tonight’s dinner…
