It's Always Monday Somewhere: The MMP

Evenin’!

Just got back from a niiiice relaxing juggling convention camping trip, optimistically and sucessfully performed with a tent wi’ holes in.
Didn’t get wet. Despite a brief thunderstorm. Yay for duct tape

I say juggling convention- it’s a sort of amusingly lazy one where most of the 50 or so (rising to 100ish by the end of the week) participants can juggle, but can’t be bothered. Mainly folks are just playing games, gossiping, going to the seaside, exchanging interesting homebrew and sunbathing; all this in a field of buttercups (apart from the seaside bits, obviously) in the middle of nowhere. This year, it’s going on for a whole 11 days, due to bank holidays, but I had to leave early.

The only downside of said festival (apart from having to leave early, in order to go to the horrid, boring jobcentre) is that it’s 5 hours drive away, and I had to do all the driving myself.
Just got back, then went to pottery class as soon as I got in, as they’ve got holidays next week, and I wanted to glaze some stuff and don’t want to leave it two more weeks. Still got to collect my various critters from people tomorrow, as my housemate came too (even though she can’t juggle at all). I also need to check my allotment plants. Unfortunately, I’d much rather sleep all day, as my tent was far too hot to sleep in for long, and the nights were late…

Tried to read thread, but am falling asleep at the keyboard, so help yourself to 'yay’s, 'ooh’s or comisserations to taste*.

  • when I was little, I believed that ‘add x (salt, sugar, pepper etc.) to taste’ in a recipe meant that without x, you would be completely unable to taste the food. The first time I didn’t add x, I thought I was some kind of freak, 'cos it tasted pretty much the same to me.

Applesauce cake 2.0 is in the oven, this recipe called for four eggs so I am thinking this will rise . . .

While I was out inspecting the posies I was being dive-bombed by a hummingbird, a female who went from the feeder to the bushes in the behind-me neighbor’s bushes and back several times. I’m thinking there is a nest there, and hoping to see the babies when they venture out.

It’s overcast and sprinkling, my peonies ought to be blooming today, but they just said no. Maybe tomorrow.

herbs if this cake is successful I’ll send you a piece via our cd drives!

Hello everyone. I’ve been busy doing my civic duty the last couple of days again. I was chosen as a juror for another trial yesterday and spent all day yesterday and most of today listening to testimony. We started deliberating a little after 2:00 this afternoon and had arrived at our verdict by around 3:30.

Anyway, my two week stint is finally up and I’m clear for another year or so.

Tomorrow, it’s back to work.

So far, laundry has been launded, grass is mowed, dinner cooked and eaten and now some quality time with the TV.

The novelty of this being flat broke thing has passed. At least the owner of that wallet has all of their money. :dubious:

Saturday should at least be interesting. We’re working at a Habitat For Humanity build.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN ‘Tis <snerk> 69 <snerk> Amurrkin out with a predicted high of only 85 and rain. Of course it will rain because I have to go check on folks in outlyin’ counties today. Thus rain, pestilence, plague, famine, flood and all manner of disaster will likely happen.

gotti good on y’all for the HforH build. I have a soft spot for HforH. I once served on the local board even.

Taters yay for havin’ fulfilled your civic duty. I haven’t been called for jury duty in years.

Now I must seek out more caffiene and feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, irk purtification must commence. At least it’s Firday and I can wear jeans.

Happy Firday Y’all!

Up, caffeinated, off to irk

Good morning! We’ll be running around much of today - groceries, oil change for the Sonata, and a trek to the aquarium supply place in Glen Burnie. Just waiting for **FCD **to get done showering.

My day lilies have started blooming, as have a bunch of hostas. My big peony had its bloom last week - I need to behead the deadheads. My 3 little peonies have done nothing again this year - I’m going to try relocating them.

Rain is forecast on and off all day today and thru tonight. Good - we can use it.

**Spaz **- good luck finding your favorite mug!

**gotti **- I keep thinking about trying HforH - I’d probably have more luck getting info if I actually looked up the local organization, right?

**Taters **- when you’re on jury duty, do you hear the “doink doink” at dramatic moments??

Just heard the shower stop - we’ll be off shortly. Happy Firday all!!

For me, winding up at a HforH build was facilitated by my employer. We’re in the middle of a huge campaign - we used to call it the Community Support Campaign, which sounds vaguely military, so it’s now the Day of Caring. That sounds all happy and fluffy with kittens, which for a couple of the local projects is actually accurate. Our legions of volunteers will be fixing up a couple animal shelters, at least one of which is a cat rescue.

Mawnin all, sorry to have been away for the past few but irk is really irkish out here

SWAMPY(sorry about the bolding) the JFK joke was really good and not too far from the truth

We have a couple of great shows, the Iridium in NYC, where Les Paul(rip) had his Monday residency and the Sellersville Theater in PA , we are off to headline the Western Maryland Blues Festival today and then off to upstate NY, then back down to SE PA , so I will be driving, being loud and cat herding. For the foreseeable future irk irk irk

SPAZ get thee outta there

Cheers all

Have a great day

That is all

JIM

Good morning all, and happy FIRDAY to all!

formerkai (and I apologize for calling you that, I can’t remember what your new nickname is!), I hope that your applesauce cake turned out better this time. They are sooo good! It got me to thinking of pineapple upsidedown cake, though. LOL Like I need any cake!!

I am an old time ST fan, and have been enjoying the ST-related comments, Capt.Kirk! Do you read any of the novels, btw? I just finished two of them, both were set in the time frame of TOS (the original series, for you non-Trek fans :)), and they were both pretty decent.

I can’t believe CatDude is going to see LiLi and family (naturally I mean during his vacation he is going to see … LOL) - what a treat! Wishing him a great vacation and hope he gives LiLi and her family hugs for all of us.

Hope everyone has a great day. I know I’m forgetting stuff, and I apologize for that. Rosie’s .sig to all.

Nah, no dramatic music during my time on juries. Swampy, I get called up like clockwork every year or year and a half. They seem to really like me down there.

This time I only sat on two cases and both were rather mundane. For once, I didn’t have to sit on a superior court case, in fact it’s the first time that I’ve NOT sat on a Superior Court case.

Both of the cases I sat on were in District Court; one was a criminal matter and one was, I guess, pretty much a misdemeanor. The first case was violation of a protection order. There was definite drama between the defendant and his ex, and frankly, she was not a nice person. The second case was driving while impaired.

Oh, there were “objections” from both sides during both trials; “move to strike”, etc. There were times we were herded out of the court room while the two sides hashed out stuff in private and then we were brought back in.

At any rate, it’s all over for now. I’m here at work and aye-aye-aying at my overfull email inbox. I’ve already had someone in to see me about a long list of wants.

I suppose I should dig in. I’ve got a ton of stuff to get done.

Here I am sitting in the waiting while VWife does MRI Part Deux, The Stoner Edition.

I’s hongry. Guess that means its **N.O.L.**time.

gotti I think fixin’ up animal shelters is way jake! Good on y’all!

I want cake.

swampy you do realise that after you uttered the phrase “I haven’t been called for jury duty in years” you will immediately be called?

I am headed to Texas in a couple of minutes. It is mr ems eldest daughters High School graduation tonight so off I go. I have promised to make nice with his ex and not stab her in the eyeball with a rusty spoon for talking said graduating daughter out of going to college.

Have a super weekend! phouka I will wave at you on my way through Ft Worth!

So, I have joined a new gym. My previous one had nice branches in CA and crappy ones out here. Joined bro’s gym, which is very, very nice. I get a free month-long, three times a week class, and I went to the first one yesterday. Today, I hurt. I’m going back tomorrow, if only because I really want to do this. The last time I lost weight, a big chunk was muscle, and I really need to put the muscle back on before anything else. So, working out is a priority.

I picked up the application packet for one of the metroplex’s suburban gov’ts. This is for a dispatch post. Here’s what they want from me:

  • official high school transcript (means a copy won’t be good enough)
  • copy of high school diploma
  • official college transcript
  • copy of diploma
  • copy of birth certificate
  • copy of driver’s license
  • copy of SS card
  • copy of automobile insurance (how is this legal? Doesn’t it assume that I own a car?)
  • copies of any position-related training certificates
  • letters of recommendation

Clearly, this is intended as a series of hoops to jump through in order to cut down on the number of applicants and make sure they really, really want the job. How much does the job pay? $36K per year.

I wonder, if I go to all the trouble of putting together this documentation, can I bill them for time and costs?

Weird. It is only 75 Amurrkin out. June 1st, almost three o’clock in the p.m. and only 75 degrees in south Jawja! What is this world comin’ to!

Oh and I’m through irk for the week. Yay!!! OYKW wants, of all things, KFC for dindin. Fine by me since he’ll pick it up and pay for it and he, like me, knows that the only KFC worth eatin’ is original recipe. I do think it’s overpriced but again, he’s payin’ so I’m eatin’.

Soooo sleepy! But tonight I get to have good Chinese with an old college chum.

Back from running about! I got groceries, **FCD **took care of signing time cards at the office, we got the oil changed in the Sonata, we drove to Glen Burnout and got some aquarium supplies and 5 new fishies (lyretail chromis) - I had to link to a pic on line because when I put them in our tank, they immediately hid. No surprise - right now they’re about half the size of the smallest fish we’ve got. I hope everyone chills and they fit it. We have 5 blue chromis and they’re really cool.

We also signed a contract to get our old well filled in and our yard fixed up, limed, and seeded. Huzzah!! It’ll be done on Monday - weather permitting, it’ll be a one-day job. Yay! The guy who owns the company is a cop - if we can’t trust him… He seems to be a good guy - heck, he’s the only one who got back to us about the job!

It’s raining and I hear rumors that tornadoes could be forming. mmmmmmmmmm, you need to keep the spinny winds out there in your part of the country. We don’t want 'em here!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

And thus goeth my day. I need a nap… zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Ugh, I have to move my bed tomorrow. I’ve reserved the U-Haul truck and Richalds will be helping me move it. Of course, now is when Dipshit says "Oh, we were going to trade you the cat-pee-stained mattress. Oh no you won’t. I will haul that king-size up to my new apartment, set it up, and save up until I can buy a double or full from ReBed. Then you can explain to your wife why you don’t have a nice king-size bed like she wanted.

If I knew I wouldn’t be dead tired tomorrow from work because Squirrel AGM refuses to help me out unless forced at gunpoint, I’d just move everything tomorrow. But I also have to coordinate with Computer Boy and I’ve already arranged Sunday with him.

Two more days. Monday I can begin to relax.

No flying monkeys on this end of the county, so far. Listening to the scanner in case the fecal matter hits the rotational air handling device, and extra crews are needed to staff the bambilances…
