An Open Letter to Jack Chick
Mr. Chick,
After following the links to the Chick tracts, I must admit that I have been converted to the Chick philosophy. All I need is a little clarification.
If we don’t stop them, the Catholics will soon convene a Constitutional Convention and install a Catholic government. Fine, I’m in, we must stop the Catholics.
If we don’t stop them, the Muslums will be in the White House in 2010 (Allah Had No Son). Ok, I’m in here also, but, wait a minute. Will this be before or after the Catholic takeover? And how do the Muslums plan to put someone in the White House in 2010? The election is in 2008, the President sworn in in 2009. Must be planning to elect a Muslum vice-president, and then have the President assassanated. Perhaps alongside a Catholic President? Are the Catholics and Muslums in collusion? We must investigate!
The judgement thing has me a little confused, though. Ok, I understand that when I die, I will be taken to Jesus to be judged, but how does this work? In “This Was Your Life”, you tell me that I will go to be judged for how I lived my life immediately. But then in “Hi There” you tell me that I will have to wait 1000 years, and then be judged for how I lived my life. But in “Flight 144” you say that when I am judged, it will not matter how I lived my life. I’m sure there is a reasonable explanation, could you enlighten me?
In several tracts, you tell the story of the original sin of Adam. I accept that, because of this sin, we all live in sin until forgiven by Jesus. God told Adam not to eat of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Adam knew not to do this, he knew it was wrong, so when he did, he committed the original sin, which curses us all. I accept this, because you say it is so.
Here is what confuses me. Before eating from the tree, Adam could not have know the difference between good and evil i.e., right and wrong. So how could know that it was wrong to eat from the tree? If he did know it was wrong to eat from the tree, that would make eating the fruit the sin you say it was, but how did he get the knowledge of good and evil which would enable him to make such a choice without having first eaten from the tree? I’m getting a headache just thinking about it, so I’ll try to make it simple. How could Adam have chosen good over evil (not eating from the tree) if he didn’t know the difference between good and evil?
I’m sure there are simple, obvious answers to all of my questions, because you have simple answers for everything. But make no mistake, I’m committed to the cause.
