Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 54 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 72 and mostly N.O.S. for the day with a possible stray afternoon tstorm. We shall see. Rain is supposed to come in over night but also go away. TWPTB have a way of predictin’ this and then it does not happen. Far cry from the “snow” we got last week. Today I shall spiff da cave and make fried chikin’ for suppage. I am in the mood for some real home cookin’ southern style.
So, what’s up this week y’all? Any big excitatin’ plans? OYKW leaves tomorrow mornin’ for Etlanner for the meetin’ that didn’t happen last week so for three days I shall be without adult supervision. I’ll probably go wild and do laundry and grocery shoppin’. I just contain myself!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, well, onward into the day! Rah.
Exciting plans? You want exciting plans?? Well, I tell ya… I got nuttin’!!
Dunno yet whether **FCD **will get home Sat or Sun, but before he gets back, I need to finish the last coat of paint on the door and frame and touch up the grey paint in his shop. I should give both bathrooms a good, deep cleaning, but that’s one of my most hated chores, so it’s still up for debate.
Otherwise, just another week of work and needy critters. That pretty much sums up my week.
No, this is what you would have eaten if the ViQueens had ::snerk:: won. The way betting works is when you LOSE, you have to give the winner something. Like maybe something appropriate to drink.
I have musket & powder, too…& a new hobby (for which I don’t have time) now, no thanks to you.
Did my first primitive biathlon yesterday; let’s just say it was a…BLAST!!!
I hope to get Nena (my new balloon) going, but will probably have to wait until at least Sat afternoon (& non-irking daylight) for an opportunity for that. (Sat morning is snowshoe racing.)
My weekend plans got disrupted by other people and bad weather so I ended up having a bonus day of sloth yesterday. I’d intended to go to my doting parent, but it was snowing here (and later over at hers) plus the main motorway was closed for a few hours after a drunk-driver hit another car causing wreckage, a fuel spillage and two lane closures (one for wreckage and fuel clean-up, and one for emergency barrier repairs on the central reservation). I only found out when I got to the access road for the motorway, so I rang said doting parent and we decided I should not bother trying the alternative route either as that would have added at least an hour to my journey.
It’s Moanday, I am at irk and it is irksome. One of my minions has moved to another department so we are going through his workload to see what needs to be done, and finding some bits and pieces that are a bit confusing. No doubt we’ll get it cleared up since we is reasonably intelligent adults, but it would be nice if he’d put things where I’d asked him to put them instead of wherever he felt like it.
In other news, yesterday’s snow has b*ggered off, now it’s just cold and windy which is an improvement on yesterday but not as good as I hope tomorrow will be.
Good morning all. 58F here but that is about as warm as it is going to get, as rain and thunder-boomers are due later today (National Weather Service radar shows them near the Mississippi-Alabama border right now). Need to tidy my computer room up, but that is the only thing on the schedule today.
As for big exciting plans, I take my car in for it’s first service on Thorsday. I usually use the service department at the car dealership, it may be a little more expensive but the one for my Chevy did a good job so I’m going to find out if the Dodge dealer is equally competent.
Irk as usual. I made an appointment to take HRH Lucky Louie to the vet in the morning as he is scratching his ears and shaking his head. I suspect an ear infection.
I had a feeling you were going to enjoy it. You’ll have to give further details downsteam when you can.
As for the bet -------- I’ll split the difference and bring along some of my home-made-potato-juice next time we’re meeting up. Not only does it dull the pain of the Vikings performance last night but any snake that bites me in the next couple days is dead meat.
Plans for the week ------- hmmmmmm. I got some new-to-me MST3K collections this weekend at Half Price Books that need watching, that work stuff, I need to visit my humble barber (who happens to be named the Humble Barber) for a beard trim, and I have a ton of eBay bids out there that I won’t win but will probably follow anyway. Such is the excitement of my life.
Up way too early. Planned to get up at 7am to get Old Man Schnauzer to the vet by 8am. Wifey woke up at 5am to potty, which woke the dogs, who woke me. Couldn’t go back to sleep, so here I am. I’m worried about Old Man Schnauzer. He’s getting old and isn’t doing too well. We shall see.
Speaking of potato juice, I made some lemon vodka over a year ago and it’s been sitting in the back of the fridge since then. We tasted it yesterday. Yowza! It’s still plenty potent, but it’s mellowed out a bit. Enough that we’re contemplating sharing it with our friends.
(Our friends drink a lot, this being wine country and all.)
I got the car washed yesterday so of course it’s raining today. In the 50s but tomorrow only in the 30s. I spent most of yesterday watching RuPaul’s Drag Race marathon with Ursala Kitteh on my lap. I did, however, clean the house this weekend. Today is irk, followed by Weight Watchers. I’ve decided I need to lose the fat that now calls me home.
Sitting here at work and waiting to be told to go home because of the idiots on the Hill. This ain’t my first rodeo, and I’m sick of it. My current boss is a moron. Technically, he should have had our letters ready for us to sign so we can go the hell home. I resent like hell having to come to work unpaid, and I really resent the fact that we have armed forces and people in harm’s way who are not getting paid for their service.
Oof. Working on a past due grant application. It’s a long story but I had a meeting last Friday that required everyone to have a round of drinks afterward. It is not actually my fault. That’s the most important thing.
I don’t like doing things late. I don’t like being rushed. I’ve had to drop everything to work on this, it’s going to take at least a full week, possibly longer, and I have many competing priorities.
Oh, and I didn’t fall asleep last night until 5am because I stupidly went on the Dope before bedtime. So I’m also physically exhausted for no good reason.
Sr. Weasel asked me how I slept, I told him and he winced. I said, ‘‘It’s all good, relative to last Monday, when I woke up at 2am and didn’t sleep at all until the following night.’’ Four hours of sleep is just winning by comparison.
Lunch time! Late start because I was all involved in an assembly drawing. Such a dedicated professional am I!
**FCD **called me from the road because his aunt gave him directions to avoid Chicago and his GPS was arguing with him. So I pulled up a map, saw what his aunt wanted him to do, and told him she was right. He’ll get to a point where the GPS will give up and recalculate the rest of the trip. He should get to Madison between 2 and 3 central time… I just need to remind him of the time difference so he doesn’t call too late tonight. He knows I crash at 9, but that’ll be 8 his time. First world problems.
So far, it’s been a decent day. I can deal with that.
Afternoon all. I have all-day blurf; something is triggering major eczema, I can’t work out what, but I barely slept last night, mostly due to that and woke up with half a brain. It can turn into a positive feedback loop, of eczema-no sleep-stress-eczema, so I’m really hoping it doesn’t.
Today was definitely One Of Those Days.
Drove halfway into skool, then realised (due to only having half a brain) I’d forgotten to bring my ID badge, which I need to get served in the staff canteen, so had to turn back to get it. Decided, as I’d now be half an hour late, to just skip the lecture this morning (which I was only attending as an extra anyway, the module has already finished for my version of the course), and do some homeirk instead, so I arrived just before lunchtime, only to discover that the canteen is shut today due to the main site doing some mass teamwork exercise thing. Pretty annoyed that they didn’t bother telling us in advance that there’ll be no food available on site for two days, though I at least have a car, unlike some of the others, because there’s nothing else in walking distance.
I have a busy few weeks coming up: I’m going to a friend’s birthday weekend, he’s rented out a whole backpacker hostel, and 70 people are coming for two nights (splitting the cost between us), then as soon as I get back, next week is the start of 3 weeks work experience, which is likely gonna be physically full on, with some really early starts.
Bumba I hope Old Man Schnauzer feels better. Aging pets is hard.
Sparkles it’s hit or miss for me on the Dope late at night. Sometimes things keep me up, and sometimes I find that no one is posting much of anything, and I can’t find anything I want to add. Good luck with the grant stuff.
Rain and highs in the 40s. To save time, I’ll just mention that it’s the same forecast for the next 10 days.
I’ve got some adulting stuff to get through. Long list of paperwork related to keeping my disability insurance working, the cars registered, 'Beamer’s school services, and getting PT up and running from my surgery. I don’t come equipped with quite that many spoons, so I’ll probably portion things out a bit over a few days.
It will be a while yet, but I’m working on my mental list of requirements for my next dog. It must be big enough for the dog park, but small enough to cuddle. It must be ok with a few miles a day exercise on my good days, and hanging out with me on my bad days (my hubby or kids will likely give it at least one walk). Not a puppy. I have no ideas at all for types of dogs right now.
Nut, I’ve forgotten my badge more than once (nowadays in my retired state, it’s forgetting the car keys), and a closed canteen, if they didn’t bother to tell anyone, is an annoyance.
Bumba, I too hope Old Man Schnauzer has nothing serious wrong with him.
Taters, been there and had bosses like that in my 35-year government career. Only problem with retirement is I have no one else to blame…
Mondays regular Jimmy Johns lunch has been consumed and some and a quick shopping run completed. Rained some but no tunder-boomers as predicted, and it looks like it’s moving eastward past us.
I stopped in the middle of my busy day and made Lebanese White Bean Salad. I find chopping vegetables oddly calming.
I use Waze for nav. It consists of real-time traffic reports sent by other users, so it tells me when to avoid things. Traffic, construction, cars on the side of the road, police, etc. I trust it more than I trust people. I have used it to drive past Chicago many a time (my Auntie lives in Rockford, IL.)
I’ve spent my entire workday so far emailing people to ask them for stuff. Critically important stuff, but still.
We have JJs less than a mile from our house with $1 delivery. It’s really unfortunate. (For my wallet.)
I just want to add that I find the nickname Sparkles funny. I’ve been playing a sim game called Rimworld and I have a settler named Sparkles (I did not name her.) She is a transgender woman with expertise in crafting and during her first Spring on an abandoned planet, she was attacked by a rabid squirrel and required an amputation. She now has a peg leg and is continually on the verge of a mental breakdown.
