It's Moanday Somewhere - A MMP

Shame on you Swampy, shame on you; you forgot to clear your throat & warble a b-day greeting on this most auspicious day…

Happy Free Slurpee Day!

Up, and caffeinated. Working tonight. I had multiple power flickers in the wee A.M.

Feeling very cranky at DH. I wound up having to “sleep” on the couch last night, and I have to go to work today while he has the day off. The Princess was not a good roommate, either.

At least healing seems to be proceeding well.

We’re in for scorching weather (by PNW standards) for the next six days or so. High eighties into the 90s around here. Bleh. Do not like.

My son is having a wonderful time in Paris. He sent another cool pic of Saint Chapelle Church and I posted it on FB. He attended a concert there after enjoying a dinner of duck and potatoes. I can’t believe it’s been just about two solid weeks and I’m sure he thinks the time is just flying by. When he posted the pic I shared, he said “Life is the best!” I think that is highly indicative of the time he is having there.

I hope all goes well with FiL’s surgery, FCM and I hope the whole deal with the trip to FL because of BiL works out fine.

I’m finishing up some coffee and then I’ll shower, make myself presentable and dash out for a couple errands. Then it’s back here to tidy up the house, and then, when my husband gets home, it’s off to another bank to close another account of MiL’s.

I will be so glad when this stupid estate business is over.

Spidey Slurpee’s are ick. Thus, they do not deserve singin’ and merriment. :stuck_out_tongue:

Irk is a lot of busy irk today. Catchn’ up on casenotes and stuff. Rah.

Clearin’ out the car. There’s an amazing amount of junk in it.

Still need to decide what into do with it- anyone like to help me decide? I’m going to write out all the pros 'n cons anyway, 'cos it helps me think.

The repair would be a bit lower than the cost of the vehicle when I got it 5 years back. I’ve not done much to it in that time, and it’s been really reliable. I don’t think I’d be able to get something as good for the same money.

I would like to get a larger car, as I do wind up moving bulky stuff a lot, but getting something both decent and cheap may be out of my budget.

The penatly of cancelling the insurance and re-insuring a new car may be quite a bit, for me.

Currently it may have some resale value, as the model is fairly popular, and most of it’s in decent condition. Not sure how much, but I think if I’m lucky, it’ll about cover the extra for insurance for a new slightly larger car, given that I’d get over half refunded.

I’m getting an old beater regardless- getting one I’d need to make payments on would be foolish in the extreme given my irregular income.

Aaagh. I wish I had a reasonably paid job so I could afford to so something as simple as fix my car without the weeks of soul searching.

**Nut **- it seems to me the answer is simple - you need to find an eccentric millionaire who will buy you a new vehicle and insure it for you. It’s so obvious, I don’t understand how you didn’t figure it out!

Seriously, I know what you’re going thru - we had a vehicle for about 14 years and it had been amazingly reliable and useful, plus it had been paid off for more than 10 of those years, which is nice. But it got to the age where a major failure would not be unexpected and the cost would be more than the vehicle was worth, either on the market or to us. In my case, I ended up selling it and buying a new car, but I was employed, so making payments wasn’t an issue.

Something you didn’t mention and I don’t know how much of an issue it is - would a larger car cost you more to run and maintain? Will you be setting yourself up for a financial pinch? I promise if I meet a millionaire in search of a good deed, I’ll send him/her your way.

Lunch has been ingested. **FCD **has finished his fenders and gas tank, except for polishing, which can’t be done till tomorrow. Shortly, I will cut up 2 cantaloupes. Inlaws will be here in a couple of hours. All quiet on the FairyChatFront.

Never had a Slurpee. I do like Icees, though.

Nut, I usually repair my beaters till the engine or transmission quits. My 2 cents(not sure how much that is in British cash).

FCM, Cantaloupe? Did you lose your ladder again? I slay me.

It has occurred to me- the last person I asked to advice told me to put a nice dress on, and gave me directions to the local yacht club

A bigger car could cost more to run, but it depends: a diesel could actually wind up costing less, even if it was a bit bigger, seeing as our fuel prices are so high. It has also occurred to me that I could probably do some stuff like cutting grass and garden maintenance as a side line, which would be easier with a larger vehicle.

I did just call the garage near where I used to live, run by a very friendly old Rasta guy. He quoted quite a bit less than everywhere else to fix it, and he has done work on it before for a really good price (he actually did a bit for free once). Maybe I should go for it and get it fixed- after all, even shopping for a car without wheels is a nightmare, and I’m going to start losing work soon because I can’t get there.

Mooom, thanks for the link on duck pins. They seem to be more of an east coast thing. They do look like fun though.

Skipping out of irk early today for a doctor’s appointment (just a check up). Then it’s get a few chores done around the house and have supper with friends. Such an exciting life. :stuck_out_tongue:

Today I went to some stores and then I came home and recorded a ukulele video.

Must get back to work - that alto clarinet won’t practice itself.

Getting ready to eat N.O.L. which is shrimp in linguine, courtesy of the Barefoot Contessa. It smells good, I’m waiting for it to cool off a bit.

FCM some BILs are the pits.

The linguine is okay, next time I’ll only use half the sauce, it’s a little too much. It would be nice too if whoever put the package together took the tails off the shrimp.

Don’t know what to tell you Nuts. It sux to be without wheels and not know if it is time to replace.

Nuts if the Rasta guy can do it for a reasonable cost that might be the best way to go for now. Hopefully the employment situation will improve for ya soon so you can think about stuff like a replacement vehicle.

Been quiet on the irkfront today. Gotten a bunch of the “back burner” stuff done, so yay for that.

My buddy Rob is in that. He did the soundtrack and has a cameo as the school bus driver. And he worked on the soundtrack for Sharknado: The Second One.
Anyone hear from Jynx? I’m not sure exactly what neighborhood she lives in, but part of Virginia Beach near the Oceanfront got wiped out by heavy winds yesterday. No deaths have been reported, but a couple of people were hospitalized, and one house got it’s third floor completely removed.

This has been an ‘unusual’ week and I’m kinda glad it’s almost over.

  • started at new client site, only my 3rd in the last 15 years so a bit of an adjustment but really good people so far.
  • a kind and caring woman I’d worked with for many years lost her battle with lung cancer way too quickly.
  • 50 coworker were laid off including a dozen pretty good friends. Not their fault and I don’t think a week severance per year worked was anywhere near appropriate. I’m trying to set up interviews for two, fingers crossed.
  • the kid’s had 3 sports related injuries this week, 2 sending her to the ER. Tough little bugger.

I had a couple of outstanding martinis several weeks ago on vacation. I think I’ll spend some effort trying to recreate the recipe this weekend and test them sitting by the [del]pool[/del] cement pond. It’s a good place for reflection.

lieu, that does sound like a hell of a week. I’m sorry about your friend who lost her battle, and I’m sorry about the laid-off co-workers. A martini or seven might help with the reflecting by the cee-mint pond.

I’m not moving as quickly as I’d like to this morning, but what the hell. I deserve an “off” day too. I spent some time PMing with my son on Facebook this morning. He’s thinking about taking a trip over to my mother’s hometown in Germany. Looking at the train schedules, I don’t think he’ll have time, but we’ll see what he works out. He wants to bring something back for both me and my mother. He’s really interested to see where my side of the family comes from. It’s a small little Bavarian town, nestled in a very scenic valley. I spent some time there as small child and have many happy memories of it.

I suppose I should start tidying up. Sigh…just not feeling it.

Both cantaloupes are cut up and I have 3 very full containers in the fridge. They were big melons!

Inlaws not here yet, but I’m not surprised - it was over 4-hour drive, plus they’d have stopped for lunch and maybe for gas. I expect they’ll get here soon. Meanwhile, I should husk the corn. Eventually. Not very motivated here…

Happy FIRDAY all!

I used to enjoy duckpin bowling with my kids when they were much younger - not in a league, though but with some friends on Saturday nights. Kids really enjoyed it, even though they mostly bowled gutter balls. LOL I wasn’t much better! When I was young, I used to like to play miniature golf. Boy, did I enjoy that! I can even remember winning a few free games for getting a “hole-in-one” on the last hole. Good times!

My cousin, who lives not too far from where BBBBBobbio -used- to live in Cottonfield Cty (although she’s on the VA side of things) has been without power since sometime last night. Fortunately she and her husband have a generator and can keep their fridge working as well as a fan going. There was a tornado that set down somewhere in the area, and my cousin said they got about 3 inches of rain

Spaz, I was thinking of you as I was watching an episode of “Disappeared” this morning - it was a case from Asheville, although the guy disappeared back in early 2000. There were just so many strange clues in the case and he’s still missing! One thing they did find, though, was a hotel room key card, but they couldn’t find out which hotel it belonged to. :frowning: In case anyone’s interested, it’s the Zebb Quinn case. Probably well before your time in Asheville though, Spaz. I just wish for the mother that she’d be able to get some closure.

FCM, thanks for giving me a taste for cantaloupe! LOL I love the melon! Happy Friday again.

I believe the big difference between them is the logo on the cup & where it’s procured as I think the contents of said cup are the same.
Alan & Jimmy have taught me that It’s 5 o’clock somewhere, but why can’t it be Quit-o’clock here? :frowning:

Howdy from da cave! I hereby declare it to be the weekend! Steaks, baked N.O.T., sallit, and cheesey bread for dindin. Plus, German chawklit cake baked BY Mennonite ladies. YUM! OYKW picked up the cakes today. The pound cake went to his orifice, the German chawklit will be consumed over the next couple of days, and the caramel cake will go into da freezer to be consumed in a couple of weeks. I’m told the pound cake myseriously disappeared upon its arrival to OYKW’s orifice.

lieu sorry about your friend and the layoffs. Sounds like one helluva week. You need martinis and the cee-mint pond for sure.

Tomorrow OYKW and I are goin’ to a luncheon in honor of JDD’s mother’s 90th birthday. She’ll actually be 90 on Tuesday but he’s doin’ this tomorrow. The luncheon will be at the Garden Club in large and in charge Dawson, Jawja. Us an a buncl of LOLs. Should be a hoot! It’s one of her favorite places as she was real big into the garden club back in the day. JDD, his sister, and brother are havin’ the whole thing catered. I foresee chikin sallit and other LOL food in my future.
