I do feel bad that the squid needed therapy after that Easter weekend at the beach…
Ah, one of those who read LotR after DnD and who can’t understand that time is more-or-less linear You know, like my sister in law complaining that certain bits of Stagecoach “have been done to death!” and Dad grabbing the armchair’s arms until his knuckles went white, and explaining in a calm voice that “they have done it to death copying this movie. This movie did it first.”
That’s one case where translating something improves it immensely The Spanish version is in the active voice, in impersonals, in… Spanish has a general allergy to the passive voice, you see, partly thanks to having many other ways to impersonalize and partly because of a general hate of repetition. They still ramble like nobody’s business and there are still several characters I wanted to bitchslap from here to eternity at the tender age of 14, but it’s much more readable. Maybe the French versions will also be an improvement?
