IT'S! . . . monty python's monday mundane posts [MMP]

I am sick, somebody pass me a tissue and a cough drop.
That is all.

Hullo everybody.

**gt, **I’m sorry about your co-worker.

Nutty, I’m glad the surgery worked.

I know there’s more, but it’s been hard to keep this week and even last week. So, hugs and boos as needed to everyone.

Hubby is sick with a bad cold which means I’m sure to get it next. Damn, I just don’t have time to be sick.

We’re supposed to go to some friends’ house tonight, but I think we’ll pass so he isn’t spreading his germs everywhere. Besides, he pretty much feels like shit, so it wouldn’t be fun for him anyway.

I should do some chores, but do not feel like being productive.

Another friend just called and asked if I wanted to go to the Super Mall with her and one of the friends who we’re supposed to visit tonight. I passed on the mall outing. Shopping is not fun when there isn’t money in the bank account to cover that kind of extra, and when I’m feeling fat. I’m not interested in buying clothes that are bigger, I want to buy small clothes again, so until I drop the pounds, I’m not buying clothes unless it’s absolutely necessary.

I should finish loading the dishwasher and go run it. That’s being slightly productive anyway.

Weight Watchers counts all that as loggable [del]exercise[/del]activity in their program. Just sayin…

I still can’t get used to the parade of medical professionals checking in on Dad. He’s all sweetness and light while they’re here and then grumpy when they leave, because he’s being “bothered”.

I finally put together my new desk so I can get some work done. Got a Sauder desk, which I’ve always had good luck with, but apparently, they’ve been making some production decisions, and not for the better. The “composite board” (that is, particle board) is way more coarse. So, it sheds crumbs every time a screw is anchored in it. Half the pieces, including all the shelf/drawer rails, were unlabeled, so it took me an extra 30 minutes to figure out which pieces were what, comparing them to the directions. The tolerances are waaaaaay off. I’ve got one drawer that bumps against the top of the desk, and the other bumps against the bottom, plus, the facing pieces along the bottom leave a full quarter of an inch of particle board edge exposed. The “verneer” has a Mohs’ hardness rating somewhere around talcum. Sliding a smooth surface over it gouged a mark on the desk, and inserting the keyboard try took a two inch strip off one of the legs. There were (checks instructions) 30 (I shit you not, 30) different types types of fasteners, pulls, cams, screws, and other hardware, and they were all put in the same bag.

Think I’ll write a letter of complaint.

However, I do finally have a flat place to put my computer and do work. Yay!

And now my dad’s unhappy because I’m downstairs, working, and it’s distracting him.

I think I’ll put on the 1812 Overture and do some serious cleaning. That’ll show him.

In Spain that crevice has come up to be called “the piggy bank” (as in toss a coin in). The one up and front is “Bethlehem” (because it’s where boobies ‘are born’).

I think Grandma may be suffering Alzheimer’s - I went to visit her and she:

  • was kind,
  • offered me a room in her house - at no monetary charge! (I have told her my job pays for the housing and that I wouldn’t get paid more if I gave up that benefit, so now she’s ok with me coming to visit about once a week)
  • and when I took her out for a walk, invited me to have a cup of tea in a bar - and paid for it!
I mean, personality changes are a symptom, right?

ETA: 1812 is the one with the cannons?

Oh, and my Ubuntu box won’t talk to the downstairs printer ever, my netbook doesn’t see the Internet, and the people at Panera not only know me by name, but they know what I’m going to order depending on my facial expression.

Scones, I’m sorry you’re sick. Feel better soon. Or, if you can’t, rub your germs on someone you hate.

gig, nasty coworker. Maybe Scones could come over and rub her germs on them.

Now that is what I call great customer service. Or maybe they need to vary the menu

Deheathenization is done. Just got a delightful letter from my nephew. May go be phonemonkey for a bit. xoxoxoxo.

Teh intartoobz connection is actin’ wonky on accounta ick weather so this may or may not post. Life is a thrill a minute!

Steak, shrimpies left from last night, sallit and cheesey bread for dindin. ‘Twill be good. I finished ironin’ and made a chikin casserole for brunch after deheathenization tomorrow.

Thanks for reminding me how forgetful I am! :smack:

Today has been a great day! We had breakfast at the IHOP in Waldorf, and it was actually pretty good. Even better, the server suggested I might want to order the “Senior” version of the breakfast I chose - smaller serving and a little cheaper. It was perfect - I had been worrying about the size of the regular omelet, but the senior omelet was exactly what I wanted. So yum! And a good tip to her.

Next stop was House of Tropicals in Glen Burnie, where **FCD **got a lot of good info about corals and water chemistry. I wandered around looking at some cool fish, but all we bought was an assortment of nutrients for corals. **FCD **also wanted a new belt, and Arundel Mills Mall was close by, so we walked the mall. Unfortunately, it’s more of an outlet than a normal mall, so no luck finding the kind of belt he wants. I was looking for shoes, also without luck.

On the way home, we went to Annapolis to the SAS Shoe store where I bought a pair of brown loafers exactly like my black loafers - HAPPY FEET!! It happened to be next to a Trader Joe’s, which I’d never been in, so we went in and looked around - that place was nuts! Too crowded for us to buy anything, so we left and headed to Famous Dave’s for a late lunch, followed by a drive home via the scenic route.

Biggest surprise was in our mailbox - a check for $3305, owed to us from when we refinanced last June. Apparently someone forgot to give us disclosure forms at closing and according to MD law, they owed us this pile of cash. So huzzah!! Actually, double huzzah, because I was able to use the scanner function to deposit it in our credit union, saving me the cost of a stamp! Cha-ching!!!

Yep, it’s been a good day!

Yes, it’s the one with the cannons. And it’s a blast to do housework to.

gt, I am so sorry to hear about your co-worker, it’s such a tragedy. 'im indoors had something like that happen not so long ago, someone he worked with went out jogging at lunchtime and dropped dead in the car park on his way back for the afternoon shift. He was only in his 40s too.

Nutz, good to hear that you’re upright and mobile again! Don’t tell the jobcentre for a while though, they’ll have you jumping through hoops for them before you know it.

We are just about to start our journey back home today. We had a late check-out from the hotel so didn’t leave until 4pm. We are now at the airport in Virgin’s new clubhouse, we didn’t think it would be open yet because we’d been emailed to say they were having a launch event next week but it turns out that’s the big party when Mr Branson comes to cut the ribbon…it’s nice, the staff are very attentive and at the moment it’s relatively quiet since one flight has just gone and the next one’s not for an hour or so. We are flying in about 4hrs’ time so we’ve got a bit of a wait. I am on my third cocktail so far, must go and get some food later to soak it all up!

We are due to land back at Heathrow at 10.30am, then we have to get back to the centre of London for a train home, so I don’t think we’ll be back in our house until late afternoon.

It will be too late to get to the cattery to collect the fuzzbutts so he’ll be enlisting the help of a friend to do that on Monday while I’m at work. Eeek! Work!

Dindin was teh nummy! Go Me! Now it’s chill and lisen to it rain time. Nice lazyish day except for ironin’.

Nitey Nite Y’all!

I think I have read everything there is to read on the internet today. Blah. Of course, I couldn’t have done anything sensible like worked on my homework, could I? :smack:

I’d really like to go to bed but I have to wait until at least 9 to give my grandpa some more cough syrup and another pill.

Garden Traveler, so sorry to read about your co-worker’s unexpected passing; I’m keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

I’m going to have another sleep study done, this one here in Albuquerque. Oh well, you gotta do it, I guess. I’m trying to figure out what my co-pay is going to be, and am totally confused by the wording in the plan’s federal brochure, unfortunately. Seems like there is a $250 deductible that you must meet before the co-pay kicks in. This is the first time in all these years (I’ve pretty much always had an HMO plan, btw) that I’ve ever run into a deductible like this. I’m also going to have the cataract surgery later this month (the sleep study will be early April)–that’s a large chunk of money out of the once a month retiree pay. :frowning:

Sounds like you had a pretty good day today, FCM, especially that windfall re: your re-financing! And did you know that those SAS shoes are made right here in Albuquerque?! They are, and there is a store not very far from me.

I guess I must have missed what caused that fire in your work truck, 2gig, but a short of wires does not seem like anything you could have any control over. Glad that you’re okay, although your gear didn’t fare so well. Heh.

Hope everyone is okay that lives in areas where all those tornadoes were! Very scary, the tornado can be quite destructive. This morning there was talk about severe weather in southern Georgia, so I do hope that Swampy is okay.

Take care all, enjoy the rest of the weekend.

I’m sorry I missed out on the chance to give you a hug GT, but i am sorry about your co-worker.

I’ve got a pair of SAS shoes that my aunt gave me after my uncle died. He had just bought them and never wore them, not that I would have cared. This particular uncle was a wonderful man that I loved very much. That was about 5 years ago and they still look like new and are the most comfortable shoes I own.

The rest of my shoes are $20.00 a pair shoes that I find at Walmart, one of the few places that carry size 14 shoes.
They last about a year usually, then I go buy another pair or two.

A few years ago the Portland Symphony did an outdoor concert in Waterfront Park and closed with the 1812 Overture, so they borrowed some real cannons from the National Guard, (and some Guardsmen to shoot them I suppose.) It was a lot of smokey fun.

That’s enough for now.

Ta!

Good Morning Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN 'Tis 47 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of only 60 for the day! Gasp! Ya’d think it’s still Winter. We survived yestiddy. No tornado like weather here although we did have a tornado watch all day. We had lots and lots and lots and lots of rain however which is good cause we need it around heah. It was a good day not to leave da cave which we didn’t.

Now I need more caffiene. Also I need to take the chikin casserole out of da fridge so it can come to room temp before bakin’ it. Today is brunch Sunday at the church house, hence the casserole. I even made a gallon each of sweet and unsweet tea. Go Me!

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Good morning!! We’ve been out and breakfasted. **FCD **will be working from home today and I’ve got nothing I have to do, so yay!

**tarra **- I thought SAS stood for San Antonio Shoes. What the heck are they doing in Albuquerque?? No matter, they are the comfortablest shoes ever, even if they are a tad pricy. The brown loafers I bought yesterday replaced a pair I bought about 20-ish years ago. I think I’ll keep the ancient ones for grubby work. I  my SAS footwear very much.

We went to a concert when we were living in FL where they did the 1812 with cannons - it was way cool! Granted, they were just ceremonial cannons, so they didn’t shake the earth, but they did blow out the eardrums, so just as good!

That’s all I’ve got. Thought we’d sold our little wood stove last night, but alas, it was too little for the folks who called. Oh well…

Happy Sunday!

And a woozy good afternoon to you all!

I’m getting somewhat cabin fever-y today, but I keep getting all light headed if I try to do much, so I can’t really go enjoy the sunshine and my legs have decided they don’t like me, because I now expect them to do some work around here, after getting away with crawling for 4 weeks. The stairs feel like Mt Doom, and the supermarket may as well be in France.

How did people not go mad in these situations before the internet?

Still, I’m not in any back pain, and this is just muscle ache, which is almost refreshing after nerve pain. And I can still stand up!

Do SAS shoes dare, and therefore win?

Good morning all.

Thanks for the continued hugs.

Glad for the good pain you’re having, Fil. You’re not overdoing it, though, are you? :dubious:

I had never heard of SAS shoes before. Now I’m curious.

Good luck with both the sleep study and the cataract surgery, tarra.

Am importing CDs onto laptop so that I can put them on various electonic devices. Am also sorting stuff in my room so that I can hang a mirror and some pics I’ve been meaning to hang for a while. Woo hoo.

Back later.

Hugs all.
