That’s the spirit!
Random brain dump:
We have flying mousies. Somekitty wants to PLAY.
Wasn’t it just about this time last year that a significant portion of Australia was on fire? Now they’ve got serious flooding.
Worrying about H5N8 avian flu, since there’s at least one known instance (in Russia) of it jumping to a human patient.
Hades Annex grows more hellish. Consensus is that all the surprise changes to QA, always in directions where something that was a point deduction even a few weeks ago is now a total fail, is an effort to build a paper trail to dump people. Our project is losing types of prepaid card like crazy, and the bank we’re contracted with is probably in violation of their contract with one state regarding the percentage of calls from that state being taken by agents based in said state. I think I’ve seen rattie-sized life vests around the place…
Yes, I’m even more neurotic and paranoid than I was pre-2020. Trust me, I’ve noticed this.
{{{{Nettie}}}}
keep yours on at all times
Yaaaaaay, Red! I hope you get a sucker or at least a sticker for going that far.
no offense but i think a resume update and a check on how to file for unemployment assistance wouldnt be paranoid …
No offense taken, you’re right, and I’m not the only longer-term person who really wants to escape. Filing for UI in California is quite the hot mess currently, I hear.
I’d be in a flop sweat wheezing panic if my employer didn’t provide amazing insurance coverage. About $200,000 has been billed for this latest adventure. I’ve got a flex spending account that’s funded with pre-tax payroll deductions that’s covering almost all of my deductible and out of pocket max.
At times, I’m slightly surprised that my employer doesn’t call me up and say “go away!” with what I cost them over the years. We’re big enough to self-fund coverage for everyone and just use a “traditional” health insurance company to handle claims administration. My late husband racked up $1,600,000 in cancer treatments, and I’ve hit them for close to a million over the years as well.
Guess that’s why all I got for my 20 year anniversary is the lucite Cube of Endurance with the company logo and a “20” inside.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to sort, heave, and bag.
I think my D&D group went on a quest for that.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 55 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 79 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Today is laundry day. WOOHOO! OYKW has a hankerin’ for hog trough Golden Corral, so we shall do the late N.O.L./early Sup thing, AKA, the Geezer hog trough buffet. That shall be the activities of the day. I get to spend Thursday and Firday over to the church house watchin’ the HVAC folks put in the two new units. Somebody needs to be around and that somebody just happens to be the church janitor Junior Warden.
I read all but retained very little so, yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, noogies, and how you doin’s all around as needed.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Tuesday Y’all!
I used to wonder about that, sorta. I did work for the Feds and have BC/BS thru my retirement. Spousal unit has had 9 spinal surgeries and one knee surgery over the last dozen years or so. This on top of our normal getting-old annual procedures. What really throws me is when I look at the bills and see how much is written off for the insurance company - does that mean the non-insured are billed for the entire amount?? No wonder people go bankrupt. Yeah, the healthcare payment system in this country needs some serious attention.
Good morning! As I slept, puzzled over how I was to feed 5 people with a can of beans, a can (?) of rice, and a tuna steak. I was portioning it out on paper plates - it wasn’t enough. Yep, stoopit dream again.
More yard work today - maybe I’ll get the edging around the slightly expanded flower bed in the back yard. I hate doing that but it’s gotta be done. There’s a chance of rain tomorrow - if I get it done today, the rain might help it set. Guess that’s the plan.
I had a reminder pop up to get blood drawn tomorrow - I’ll double check with my doc to make sure she ordered it and ask if she’ll want me to come in. This is a follow-up after 3 months of not taking my cholesterol meds to see if I still need them or if a smaller dose might work. Once I post here, I need to send her a message.
And tonight, I’ll be building a couple of quiches - one for supper, one to be frozen and taken to Ocala. I need to inventory the freezer and see what’s going on in there, and put all the food we’re taking together on one shelf. Or two. Whatever.
Thus beginneth the day. Happy Tuesday!!!
Morning all. Up before 6:30am, taking naps in the afternoon spoils my sleeping-in plans, so will do my best to stay awake today. Rain has a 50-50 shot today and tomorrow but the real deluge is scheduled for Thorsday. We’ll see.
{{{Nettie}}}. Agree with shady, that workplace has gone from ‘bad’ to ‘terrible’ and is approaching ‘toxic’ much too fast. Good on your planning.
gotti, thought you probably did. And insurance can afford it due to character like me who haven’t had a sick day or operation in 20 years, but still pay into the system (one of these days I’m going to stick it too them…). Be well.
OK, need to grab me an Instant Breakfast. All y’all have a good 2sday.
I did a dumb thing last night. I got into a fight with a rotisserie chicken and lost. I’m now sporting 4 stitches on the index finger of my left hand. I was making tacos, dangit. Anyway, after the slice, I rolled my eyes, covered it up, finished making dinner and noticed that the sides just weren’t as “together” as they should be. So I drove myself to urgent care saying, “It’s not that bad.” The doc said, “Actually it kind of is.” So. What surprised me the most was the amount of tramadol they sent me home with. Now if I’d had serious surgery, fine, but four stitches doesn’t seem to need narcotics.
Anyway, guess it’s time for me to find a takeback program. On the bright side, there were still tacos available when I got home. Yay, tacos!
What was that about a Trauma Doll?
I’ve owned RVs for the last 20+ years and I even sold them at one juncture in my life. My best advice is to do a lot of research before buying. Visit RV forums, read reviews, etc. And don’t over-buy. If it’s just two of you, you can get buy with a surprisingly small rig. My present one is a van conversion (Ford E-350) made by Pleasure-Way. I’ve had it for ten years now and is serves all our needs.
Ha, to put me to sleep and apparently take away all my pain. And maybe to stab things into since my fingers aren’t apparently expendable.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s been a very busy day here so I am a bit later than usual. Weather app says “Cloudy and mild. Someone needs to start a fucking dance party or some shit. Might it be you?” and promises me 11C/52F all day and mostly cloudy. That looks about right, we had a bit of sun earlier but it’s been pretty grey all day.
Busy, busy, busy in the depths of spreadsheet hell. I’ve been putting together a schedule for our take-home exams similar to the one I worked on in January. This time I have 1,450 student exams on there, clashes aplenty and more extra time allowances than you can shake sticks at. Tomorrow will be a good day to talk to the exams officer and the boss about it, if I can squeeze that in between all the meetings in my calendar.
Grocery shopping tonight, don’t need much apart from the basics. The salad drawer in the fridge is almost bare so that will need filling up especially as I’m living on salads for lunch at the moment. And of course there will need to be cat food now that fostermog has decided four pouches of food a day is the absolute minimum he can exist on.
Happy 2sday! We’re back in the valley. We actually came back Sunday ‘cause Monday morning is our garbage pickup here. I’ve decided I hate our bed here. I slept like a baby at the ‘little house’ but yesterday morning when I climbed out of bed I could hardly walk my hip hurt so bad. Slept the entire night on my right side last night and it’s a little better this morning. Gettin’ old ain’t for sissies.
Wifey is getting real serious about getting rid of stuff so’s we can move. Usually when she talks about clearing stuff out she’s talking about gettin’ rid of my stuff. She’s actually talking about getting rid of some of her stuff now.
One of my projects this time around is to go through the garage and decide what tools go into the garage sale and what goes over the hill with us. For instance I don’t really need 4 routers.
Well, need to get after gettin’ after.
Yays, boos, trout, etc.
Happy Tuesday, Mumpers! (For swampy, happy Chewsday since you’re going to the ol’ Golden Corral.)
I’m going to walk to the big fabric store today, as I need some thread and a couple of other items. I can mend but can’t sew, so I seldom have need to go into such places. It’ll be an adventure!
I need to renew my drivers license. I know I should get a state ID, but to me that means giving up on my eyes improving enough for me to drive; OK, that’s the reality, but i can’t give up the dream, so a DL it is. I need an enhanced one in order to fly, but that means going to the DMV and having an eye test. I can get a regular license online, no vision test, so why do I need a vision test for an enhanced license? Today I found out if I get a passport, I don’t need an enhanced DL, so I think I’m going that route. Whew!
Yep. And that’s exactly what happens. But we’re not going to change the system because freedom.
wordy, that sounds awful. Glad you’re not in much pain, though!
BooFae, hope you escape from spreadsheet hell. I guess if that’s possible, it’s spreadsheet purgatory. Either way, no fun.
MetalMouse, do you find Instant Breakfast sticks with you? It seems to make me hungrier than if I’d skipped breakfast entirely.
Morning, all. Busy morning here in SoCal. Bowing to the very loud demands requests from Attendance, I set foot on campus for the first time since December to take care of a pile of paperwork.* Talked to the lead secretary for 30 minutes or so, then returned home and started the daunting task of digging up and resodding the side strip. This will be a multi-year project I’m sure. For now I’m doing it 6 feet at a time: dig up the bloody wild grass that has taken over that strip, lay plastic, cover with bark chips or rock chips to kill any roots or seeds, then plant hollyhocks and sunflowers. The grass has had control for at least the last 7 years, so digging it up is a bitch. One piece at a time, boy. No need to work yourself into a heart attack for flowers.
-
- It occurred to me on the drive home that this has been the longest I’ve been off-campus in 35 years. Even if I don’t set foot at school all summer long, that’s only 60 days or so. This time I’ve been off close to 100 days!
nellie, I drink Carnation “Breakfast Essentials” with milk, it used to be called Carnation Instant Breakfast and I haven’t changed even if Carnation did. And yes, I usually find myself nibbling around this time of day (Cheesey bread and Pepsi)
Rained for awhile but clearing now, we’ll see in a couple of hours if they open the soccer fields or not. Only 57F today, much cooler than yesterday, so glad I did all the errands yesterday.
boo fae, good luck with the spreadsheets.
Bumba, you ain’t going to believe how much stuff you still have.
Onward!
