Afternoon all. Hugs, yays, trouts etc. for all those who want. Be nice to the trouts please.
it’s a day off today- I was just about to head out for walkies, but the rain’s just started. I don’t think it’s going to last, and it’s actually been pretty dry lately- this side of the country is an awful lot drier than Cornwall- so I’m not complaining. It also means I don’t have to feel bad for sitting in and being lazy, which is nice.
((Fairychats)) I hope everything goes as well as it can.
Stay safe! My boss, who lives in Chattanooga (I think on the Georgia/Tennessee border?) said schools are closing early due to the potential for tornados. I know that’s probably not terribly nearby but still.
Today is shaping up to be a little less spectacular than yesterday, but eh - the girl went off with a friend for a while. The boy is still asleep. Husband is downstairs working and I’m on a 3 hour long call, post-caffeinating, of course.
The guy talking right now keep switching the way he says data; I don’t know why it bothers me, but it does. “So, the daah-tah says X here…and this day-tah says Y.” Consistency is key, darnit.
Back from the banking, the thunder has gotten louder and saw several lightning ground-strikes (at a distance). talky, they shut our schools down completely for the day so someone really thinks it’s really going to get bad. I have enough food in the house to manage if the power goes out again (last time was a tornado in 2011, took out power for a week).
{{{FCM/FCD}}}, hope they can find some medical help…there’s always the emergency room, but that might be stacked up too. Best wishes.
Do they have her on zofran, aka ondansetron? Way back when my late husband was just starting treatments, we had the “chemo talk” with the oncology people to lay out a rough schedule and what to expect. I remember them saying if he’s nauseous or worse, vomiting, they’re not doing their job right.
Did I ever mention my neighbor is AMAZING? Probably not, as we don’t have any interactions over the past four years much more than friendly waves from our respective driveways. Remember about how my fence blew over while I was in hospital? Well, PWAISDN and I had thoughts of fixing it this weekend as it appeared to just need a new post, and I’m recovered enough to safely consider minor weekend warrior projects like rebuilding sixteen feet of fence. Yesterday afternoon, my neighbor was pouring concrete around a new post!
What do you get for someone who doesn’t want anything in exchange for fixing a fence? Seriously - I asked, and he does’t want anything, even though he almost certainly bought the post and concrete.
It’s getting near the end of the month, and the incoming data is petering out. I’m back to cleaning out my retired boss’s old files, entering pertinent information in to a spreadsheet so that the manila folders and all of the papers they contain can be shredded prior to the move to our new orifice. Tedious, but necessary.
Nearly ten years ago, my Other Shoe did exactly that. No more beeping machines, no more tubes where tubes ought not to go.
Just an exchange of "I love you"s and then… well, the rest of the mess was up to me.
He got to drift off peacefully and I get to pick up the pieces. (Note to my grammar teachers: the tenses were, and are, accurate.)
If something like that is the best thing for your family, then, that’s the best I can wish for you.
I accomplished my main goal for today, which was to smoosh up into envelopes, address, and mail off two care packages.
One was a (belated) anniversary gift.
The other was an “OMG bless your heart” for a friend - with 3 kids! - whose husband is leaving her.
The dichotomy of putting the two together, at the same time, for what amounts to two opposite reasons, for two girlfriends I’ve known since we were in grade school …
I just can’t.
This is on top of my own mental exhaustion. I’m BURNT OUT on my job, so badly.
I used to enjoy helping people. But, next mo-fo who doesn’t have a pre-order sent in (as opposed to STILL SITTING IN YOUR SHOPPING CART just hit “Place Order” ya dummy) imma gonna … I dunno. Something.
It’s pretty much just on the surface, so when you bite into them, the whites will be mostly white. It may be possible to have the dye penetrate farther by soaking the eggs overnight, but at some point, you’ll have eggs that taste of food coloring. Bleah!
shoe - What gotti said. And I’m glad you understood my recipe, such as it is. When I bake, I measure precisely. Otherwise, I know when I have enough of whatever.
Just finished dumping 7 bags of composted manure in my garden beds - pics on FB if you care. I was rather pissed at the number of large rock in the bags - especially since they’re supposedly 40# of composted manure. More than a few rocks were of significant size. But it’s done and I’m hoping there’s enough nutrients to make my veggies happy!
I also cleaned my counter-top ice maker. Our well water is a bit on the hard side, so there was some mineral deposit in the reservoir. Vinegar and a variety of scrubby tools have dispatched the residue and my next batch of ice should be crystal clear. Probably won’t make any for a couple of days since FCD isn’t here and I don’t use all that much in a day. I could always bag what I have and shove it in the little freezer, which is much emptier since all the pre-made food has gone to FL.
Still waiting for a call from the car guy. I talked to him this morning and I told him I want to come get the truck. If I don’t hear from him, tomorrow, I’ll go over, settle up, and claim my key. Then daughter and I can pick it up this weekend.
A friend picked me up and took me to the gardening center, where I admired many lovely plants and bought some fuchsia for my balcony window box. I like fuchsia, and it attracts hummingbirds, which I also like. I also got potting soil. Then I found a big planter at Target for only $20. I’m sure it was mis-priced, as smaller, identical planters were twice as much, but the cashier said if it scans, that’s the price. All this makes me very happy.
It’s cloudy here, but BooFae’s weather app says I’ll “fucking like it,” and I will.
FCM, I’m sorry things are so rough at the in-laws’. If FIL can’t walk, how could FCD get him to a doctor? There’s a medical service here that sends doctors on house calls. I wonder if there’s something similar there. I imagine they could make your FIL more comfortable, and maybe MIL would listen to a doctor. I can only imagine how hard all this is on FCD. He must be very worried about both his parents, and you’re probably worried about them andFCD. Hoping hard for the best for all of you.
I keep my apartment at 62º, so unless I have someone here to keep me warm, pj’s it is.
Wizard (or Magic or Nancy…which is it?), youtube also has Catholic masses to view. Or you can go here to watch live Masses online at almost any hour of the day.
All you Southern Mumpers (Sumpers?) take care and take cover. Hoping everyone makes it through the rough weather OK.
Howdy Y’all! I was at the church house from a little after eight this mornin’ until five-fifteen this afternoon. Lawd! Did a bunch of mowin’ this mornin’ and a lot of sittin’ around this afternoon while the HVAC folks worked. Gotta go back over early tomorrow mornin’ as well for them to finish up. It’s supposed to get ick here tomorrow, but I think what they have to do is all inside. Hopefully it will only be a couple of hours. Anywho, I got home, et sup (OYKW cooked, which he is quite good at) and have had a shower. Now I chill.
{{{MOOOOOM, FCD, AND FCD 'RENTS}}} I hope it all works out for whatever is the best outcome. I just don’t know what else to say.
I hope that you’re staying dry and out of the wind metal mouse and magic.
It’s good of your in-laws to come help out magic.
I hope that everything works for the best outcome Mooooooom. Hugs to all of you.
I got shot this morning! I have to schedule an appointment to get the second dose in three weeks, then I should be good for some road trips this summer. I plan to attend both my family reunion and my 40 year HS reunion. The last HS reunion, I skipped, as I was in the process of moving to my present apartment.
Nelson got to go to the dog park for a few minutes this afternoon between showers and I did the grocery shopping a bit early so’s to get out of it this weekend. I need to use the die cutter to cut some butterflies for the heathen children’s craft table at the spring picnic (yes, we’re actually going to meet in person for the first time in over a year!).
Evening all. The weather was rainy and stormy, but the Real Bad Stuff stayed South and East of me (tornadoes with deaths around Birmingham), but it’s not raining now so we might have a good night, If you’re reading this and are in Knoxville, well…be inside. Tomorrow is supposed to be clear and plenty of sun, then more rain for Saturday.
nellie, sounds like a good deal, or maybe a discontinued item. Either way, score!
OK, dishes are washing and need to check the mail (probably late because it did rain pretty hard) then off for internettin’ and readin’.
