You’d hate mine. Consensus is that paranoia about paper trails being generated for malevolent purposes is not unreasonable, and even the QAs are unhappy about all the “this was points off as recently as last week, now it’s a total fail scoring 0 and can help get someone fired” going on lately. I’m not sure the co-irkers qualify as intelligent life, and the callers are as annoying as ever.
I hate to say it fcm but it sounds like its time to take the choice out of their hands if its getting that bad …
Well since this post has taken like 12 hours to write here’s what happened to my aunt she called her son to see if they were bringing grandkid over today and asked if he was going to Walmart today and he said yeah and she said she needed to go get some easter dinner items … and he was supposed to call her when he went
Welp he never came and got her … she waited until almost 4:03 to find out they already went …and its not the first time its happened …
just out of curiosity and I missed it swampy … How did you end up junior janitor erm warden again? i thought you were done with that after last year?
As for my weekend adventure …Sunday the hot water heater went out which was a surprise but not unexpected as it was an old used water heater, to begin with
What was unexpected is we thought the new neighbors across the street were having plumbing troubles as there was always a plumbers truck there Well no it turns out our neighbor’s fiance is one of the most expensive and well-reguarded plumbers in town and he hears us and they walk over and discuss the problem and gave our landlord a great deal even let him use the contractor discount at the home depot he had …
but it didn’t get done until Tuesday… because of the normal lackadaisical attitude twords getting anything fixed here … for example …the son of the owner was off doing his own thing and didn’t get back with the home depot card until Monday and when he did order the water heater ordered the wrong size and said "well i thought it would fit and they didn’t have anymore in the area "
that pissed the plumber off who called home depot itself and drove about 90 minutes each way to pick out the one that should of been ordered in the first place and finally fixed it and we had hot water Wednesday …Now all they gotta do is scrap the old heater and clean up the boxes and its done … if landlord had tried to do this alone itd be a month before the first attempts to fix it would of occurred …
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 81 and a 64% (really?) chance of rain/tstorms/apocalypse this afternoon/evenin’. I get to go back over to the church house today. The HVAC folks should be there around eight-thirty and hopefully be done this mornin’. That is the extent of plans for the day. Sup shall be fish 'n chips with coleslaw and hush puppies from Long John Silver’s cause we like LJS and have a coupon. We are a couple of retired, grumpy, and cheap old men.
shades I agreed to be church janitor Junior Warden this year in what can only be described as a brief moment of insanity on my part. Sorry about the water heater woes but glad its all fixed now. That was a rotten thing for your cousin to do to your aunt.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I must needs purtify and look reasonably presentable to be about the public. Woe and bother.
Happy Firday Y’all!
Gonna try to keep the bummer stuff to a minimum but I need to vent. When FCD called last night, they were at the ER. FIL had 5 episodes that FCD described as mini-strokes. They were waiting on some sort of scan. No idea how late they were there because his phone was almost out of battery and he didn’t call back. So I’m waiting to hear.
MIL ABSOLUTELY REFUSES to consider moving, or even getting help. She’s convinced that all FIL needs is back surgery and that her shoulder surgery next month will get her back to prime fitness. She refuses to leave their friends. She refuses to accept reality. We can’t very well tie her up and toss her in the car. She won’t listen to anyone, and FIL is too far out of it to even discuss anything.
She scared - I get that. But she’s become irrational. She can’t see, she can’t drive, she can’t remember simple things. I don’t know what to do. FCD is at a loss. It’s just a terrible situation overall. And on top of that, once his parents die, there’s the matter of his youngest brother. We’ve already talked about making an apartment of sorts for him in the basement. I hate that idea for so many reasons, but there’s no way he can afford rent around here and we can’t afford to subsidize it for him unless we give up all our retirement plans.
OK, that’s enough. I’m bumming myself out.
Shortly, I need to run to Food Lion - I remembered last night that I gave all my food coloring to my daughter when they were decorating cookies. Plus Diet Coke is on sale, so I’ll add to our stash. The main plan is to prep the deviled eggs for tomorrow, and I need to run all the lap robes thru a rinse cycle (or did I do that already?) so I can take them to Mom’s. The sun is supposed to appear this afternoon - if so, I’ll get outside and maybe attack some of the nasties on the front hill.
I need to quit caffeinating in the afternoon - I didn’t fall asleep till after midnight, then I woke at 4. I dozed again till about 6:30, but it wasn’t quite enough. Maybe I’ll give Mel a shot tonight.
Oh, yeah, and I need to call Paul about the truck. I have accumulating trash and recycling to take. I need a chore staff. Isn’t retirement supposed to be a life of leisure? Unless you’re a church janitor, that is??
Oh well, Happy Firday anyway…
Noticing news reports of tornadoes in Georgia, I’m relieved that you’re checking in as normal.
FCM, it will not end well, I’m very much afraid, but you and FCD are going above and beyond in trying to make things as easy as possible. As shady says, might it have to go to the legal system? And younger brother is a whole nother issue…
shady, water heater problems are never fun, had mine replaced about 4 years ago without all the issues you had, it’ll hopefully last for 20 years (me lasting another 20 years is problematic, so we’ll see which one gives out first).
Wizard, glad you escaped the worst of the weather too. Looks like 5 dead in Alabama from the storms, but all 100 miles or so from here. It’s bright and clear today and heading for 70F.
Well, went to check on the dishwasher before going to bed last night, and I’d forgotten to start it. So it’s running this morning and I’ll hopefully have clean dishes soon. Outside of that, nothing much planned.
All ya’ll take care and spare a {{ }} for the FCFamily.
Back from Food Lion - and the dollar store because I couldn’t find 4-packs of food coloring at FL. Lap robes have been thru the rinse cycle and they’re in the dryer. Deviled egg filling is mixed and ready. Whites are now purple, yellow, green and pink. I’ll fill them tomorrow at Mom’s.
It’s quite warm here. The house is open and the sun is shining.I’m thinking about walking the neighborhood rather than treading the mill. We shall see… At the moment, I’m suddenly feeling tired - maybe I’ll take a TV break.
Metal Mouse We ended up having to hang out in the storm shelter for a while last night, when the second line of storms came through.
Looks like I’m headed to the drug store for athletic tape and church for palms this afternoon. I’m thinking of making baked Mac & Cheese for dinner tonight. It’s mild enough that Mrs Magill should keep it down.
Update - FIL is in the hospital still. MIL is with him. FCD is pretty angry at his mom and he’s talking about coming home tomorrow since she doesn’t seem to want his opinions. She won’t listen to her sister, the nurse, either. I feel so sorry for him. But he can’t force her to do anything. His younger bro will pick up some of the slack since FIL now can’t drive. And I wonder about MIL’s mental health if FIL dies…
I think maybe I need to stop venting about this - there’s nothing to be done and I don’t need a pity party. Unless you want to send chocolate. That’s always helpful… OK, off to do something.
Sending a truckload of virtual chocolates your way, FCM! I’m so sorry you guys are going through this.
I’m so glad those of you who were in the south are okay (at least as far as the weather goes). May it stay that way.
The day is setting up to be somewhat quiet so far. For now anyway. This weekend I’d been planning on knocking down the rest of the fence, but I think that might have to wait. I can fit my bandage in workgloves, but I’d have to have a tight hold on the crowbar and I can’t bend my finger without tearing stitches. So, that leaves the wood floor to uncover…maybe. I wonder how successful I’ll be at avoiding the carpet staples. Only one way to find out.
I’m wishing FCD, you, the in-laws, and your entire family the very best!
As if we didn’t know that you bought chocolate when you were in those stores just now supposedly looking for food coloring for Easter deviled eggs. None of us were born yesterday (in my case not even last week).
Rant and kvetch here to your heart’s content. It’s a wretched dilemma. Worked in the midst of hundreds of these scenarios as a home health nurse. The hospital, doctors and nurses and discharge planners may not give her a choice, FIL may find himself in a skilled nursing home or memory care bed and it won’t be one they will get to choose like they could choose assisted living apartments within an hour or two of you. Like I said, worked hundreds of these situations, the handwriting is on the wall.
{{{{{{ }}}}}}
69 degrees and 100% humidity from the rain s not nice. especialy when you are a gap between fans..
Arounbd here it’s known as “The Raleigh Weather Dome”
: emails 200lbs, of chocolate : And {{{{FairyChat Family}}}} You’re in a horrible situation, vent as needed.
Also, around here, if you call the ambulance so many times (I don’t know what the magic number is, though), they will put you in a nursing home!
Nona - I don’t know what the deal is in Ocala, but it’s primarily a retirement area and I doubt the have enough nursing facilities for something like that. Not that MIL would allow FIL to go anywhere but home. I really think she’s losing it.
And BBBoo - no, I didn’t get chocolate earlier, tho I thought about it. I did get cheesy poofs, but it ain’t the same!
OK, time to get the lap robes out of the dryer and bagged. Then I need to go settle up with the car guys since they can’t seem to find anything wrong with the truck. I’m guessing it was a cold tire with a flat area till it warmed.
I’d take the Weather Dome any day over the mid to late ninties, when Raleigh was a member or the hurricane of the week club.
That is just it-the discharge planners and doctors are the hospital aren’t going to ‘let’ her decide he is coming home. It will be discharged to a memory care or assisted living or signed out against medical advice (and usually once you have AMA’ed, they won’t accept you for inpatient care again).
Afternoon, mumpers! I’ve just sat here and watched a tremendous hail storm going on outside, enough of it accumulated on the street to make it look like we’d had snow. The weather app says "Well, fuck me sideways, the sun is out! and promises me 10C/50F all day, mostly sunny. Not exactly true, it’s been raining and horrible for a chunk of the day, and now it’s grey. Stoopit weather.
Mooooom I am sorry to hear all the troubles with FIL, I suppose it’s good that he’s in the hospital now as that’s the best place for him. I understand FCD’s frustrations too, it must be so difficult to deal with someone who’s got their head so far buried in the sand. I do hope that the medical professionals down there will intervene now and refuse to release him to home and that MIL’s state of mind will also be part of that consideration.
Magic Nancy, sending good wishes to Mrs Magill, she will surely be glad of all the support she can get right now.
Nothing exciting happening here today, been very busy at irk and still faffing with that pesky spreadsheet. I’m sending it to the academics now so they can spend the weekend fulminating over it. Suppose I’d better get on to that!
I my car guys! They had the truck for a week and couldn’t duplicate the problem. Paul was apologetic and refused any payment since they didn’t do anything… except they drove it twice, and inspected the brakes and the front end. I’ve got the key, and daughter and I will pick it up tomorrow evening.
Nice to have a happy in my day!
Good morning! I started the day with a long phone call from nephew.
My plans for the day aren’t interesting enough to share, and I’d hate to bore you. It is, however, sunny, with an expected high of 53º, and trees and flowers are blooming. I shall think of Moooom, our reigning Queen of Spring, when I walk today.
Moooom, I see wordy is volunteering chocolates, so I’ll offer a tanker truck of wine. I know you seldom imbibe, but this may be a medical necessity. Besides, a truckload of chocolates will bring a bunch of Mumpers, and they’ll be thirsty.
BooFae, your weather app is drunk. Glad you were able to stay inside and out of the hail.
MetalMouse, thanks for the reminder: I need to start the dishwasher!
Magic, hope the Mrs. is doing better today.
