It's the MDMMP!! (Memorial Day Monday Morning Post...Fool!)

Sounds like a frustrating schedule, rigs. Are your days always split up like that or is this an exception? Not sure what extramural means in that context… Does sound an awful lot like off-campus, though. I’d imagine the boot camp isn’t strictly considered a course, though. Were you planning to take most of your courses at an off-campus site? Spats? Where are you?

Nice job with the basement, FCM!

MBG, when you’re done there you can come over here and dig a few holes. Bring lilacs.

I’m feeling pretty darn lazy. It rained at my friend’s house, but doesn’t look like it rained down here. I’ve got a few more items I need to plant, but I think I might kick back after that and nap and read or something.

I seem to have the beginnings of a sore throat; that’s why I’m inclined to take it easy. Also, it looks like the weather is going to be really nice most of the week.

Just threw some clothes in the dryer. I’ve got a few more loads I need to do.

Maybe I’ll go out in search of ice cream.

OK, I did something today I haven’t done in ages - I MADE DINNER!!!

Lately we either haven’t been eating dinner, or we grab something while we’re out running errands, or we pick at whatever we find - cereal or a sammich or a handful of peanuts… But tonight, I steamed some shrimp, tossed some steak fries in the toaster oven, sliced some fresh 'maters, and nuked some peas-n-carrots. Yum! FCD rinsed the dishes, I loaded the dishwasher, and it’s quietly cleaning the dishes. I’m thinking we need a trip to Bert’s for a sundae. Ya think?

I think a trip to Bert’s is in order. If Bert ain’t home, do y’all just go on in and make yourselves sundaes anyway?

I met Shibb, The King Of Soup, Bambi, Lucretia and Bluesman last night. We had a blast! Shibb and I walked around Ybor City for a while after dinner and went barhopping. We went to two bars! We’re animals! The last place we went to was a cigar bar. Shibb had a beer and I had a Cuban Coffee and a cigar.

I got me a nice “welcome” home from ACBG when I got back today. I’ve got the last load of laundry in the dryer and am thinking about gettin’ in my whirlpool bathtub for a nice soak in a bit. I am pooped!

The room is looking good FCM. I liked the pics of the pottery wheel and creations too. I foresee your family getting lots of ceramic pieces for Christmas this year. They’ll be thrilled.

Rigs I have no idea what extramural courses means, unless there are some courses you have to take outside of your core master’s courses. Maybe that’s what that means. I had three courses outside of my core courses that I had to take when I got my master’s. They were in research, statistics and an outside counseling course which the school had to approve. Do you have an advisor type person at your school you can ask?

So, who’s doin’ the MMP tomorrow?

Welcome back, swampy! We missed you! Sounds like you had fun. And two bars…frankly, I’m impressed. (My max is one and that’s maybe once a year, if that often.)

taxi has been volunteered to do the MMP as she hinted that she had moving stories to tell. (She even agreed, so the chances are good…)

I just got back from the grocery store where I was thinking that I’ve been grazing my way to meals a lot lately, FCM. Didn’t really buy much to get me away from that concept, but that was mostly because I was stocking up on stuff for lunches. Did buy stuff for a couple of nice salads, though. I’ve been doing badly in the salad department lately. I have a couple of windowboxes with lettuce and radishes, but they’re not quite to the point where I can get a whole salad out of them. But maybe a few leaves to put in a sandwich…

Back to a bit more clean-up. And some reading.

We went to Bert’s. Ice cream was ingested. All is right with the world. We had a nice thunderstorm come thru which watered the garden and dropped the temp a bit. Laundry is all done. Dishes are done. Critters are fed. It’s a good evening.

Too bad I gotta go back to work tomorrow…

I don’t do as much gardening and yard decorating as I keep thinking I should. I’m a disgrace to Messicans everywhere!!

But today, I broke down and bought the row of lilac bushes that the Wife wanted along the back of the yard.

There’s five altogether

They’re all different time bloomers…does that make sense? Three different varieties, some bloom earlier than others…

Here’s a close up of one

I am wiped out. A late night at the neighbor’s surprise party for his wife’s 40th , digging around in the yard, and the BIG steak I just devoured for dinner. I need a shower, but I’m not sure I have the strength to get off the couch.

Hi all! I’m alive!

Ironically, it was exactly when you wrote this that I was missing my connecting flight. But let’s go back to the beginning. Just after I made my last post, I headed off to Newark International Airport. I got some breakfast there and waited for a while. There was one thing that caught my eye. On the screens of information about the flight, they said, “We will have limited space for carry on bags today …” and went on to ask if anyone was willing to check some more bags. I thought, “Why today? What’s different? Did they shrink the plane?” Anyway. I was supposed to get on the 11:15 am EST flight to Atlanta, and I got on it alright, but it didn’t leave until 11:45 am. I didn’t think anything of it at the time.

I arrived in Atlanta at approximately 2:05 pm EST, and that’s when it hit me. I looked at my second boarding pass, and I remembered that my second flight was scheduled to leave Atlanta at 2:35 pm EST. It took me 10 minutes just to get off the plane, because they were having some problem with the door or something. Then, I commenced moving as quickly as I could across three quarters of a mile of airport. If you’ve never been to the Atlanta airport, it is COLOSSAL. So I walked really fast. (I’m a fast walker). Of course, I didn’t make it in time. So I talked to the guy at the desk, and I found out that the next flight to Panama City was at 5:25 pm EST, and it was full. So he put me on standby.

Two and a half hours I waited, with four girls from Cincinnati heading down to Panama City on vacation. We had no idea if we would get on the 5:25 flight, and we were tossing around options like getting a van of some kind, or rerouting through locations in Alabama, or staying the night. Finally they had all the confirmed passengers boarded, and they started calling standby names. One name, then another, and mine wasn’t being called. One of the four girls was called.

… and then I was. Such a sigh of relief I have never expressed. I never thought getting on a plane could be such a cathartic experience. Fortunately, the other three girls got on as well, immediately after me. All of the standby passengers got on, because there were still seats open when the plane took off. It took off a bit late, but take off it did, and I met up with the daughter of the couple from whom I’m renting a room. We joined her parents at a restaurant, and then I got to their house around 9:30 pm Central time last night.
