It's the MDMMP!! (Memorial Day Monday Morning Post...Fool!)

Oh! I almost forgot. A Sweet Adelines quartet is participating in the Oreo’s Jingle contest - They’re an International Champion (or Queens of Harmony as we called them) and the contest is at http://www.oreo.com - they’re name is A Cappella Gold
You have to register on the site to vote, but you’ll be able to vote every day. So go vote for A Cappella Gold. Please?

:smack: I just noticed the typo “their name” not “they’re name” :wally :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m back. I’ve got enough potting soil to last me through fall, I hope. And a couple of plants that can stand to be wet for one of the pots I put under the tree that doesn’t actually have a drainage hole. And a few little filler plants. Off to finish off containers. Then more under the crabapples. Then the side of the house. We’ll see how much stamina I actually possess today.

I’ve returned from dropping my daughter off at Red Robin; going downtown to pick up my plates and registration, and stopping off at Jamba Juice.

All of this took me over an hour because of traffic. I’m currently waiting for the daughter to call me so I can pick her and her friend up, drop the friend off, head to the grocery store, then come home and do some weeding, then start making dinner. Mr. Taters invited his mother to eat with us, so I’ll have to tidy up in here too. I was really hoping to just be able to ding around in the yard and do things on my own time. I guess that isn’t happening…again…sigh.

My son is currently outside mowing the lawn in hopes he can earn some spending moolah. The hubby is out there edging and trimming.

The day has turned out quite lovely, if not a little humid. But, I’ll take it. The sun is out so I’m not complaining.

Pffft - you’ve already met the most important one…

So, anyway, it’s been a busy day. I had 12 pieces to glaze in class this morning. One of my classmates was pissing me off big time. Bear in mind, this is the 4th class I’ve taken. I don’t pretend to be an expert, but I can dip stuff in glaze. It ain’t rocket surgery…

First off, the glaze is in 5 gallon buckets, some more full than others. It’s water based, and when it sits, it separates. We have a hand drill with one of those mixer attachments, which makes mixing glaze a piece of cake. Well, Miss Priss doesn’t like the drill thing. It scares her or something. So she was putting sticks in all of the glaze buckets so we could mix by hand. Fine. But I like the drill mixer. No, she handed me a stick and said “I want you to use this.” I think I hurt myself rolling my eyes.

Then she proceeded to tell me I didn’t wax my pots properly. Um, like I said, it ain’t rocket surgery. I chose to ignore her that time, and continued to glaze as I always have. At one point, I let out a very mild expletive when I touched a section of glaze that hadn’t quite set, and it pulled away from the pot. More an annoyance than a problem - all I had to do was dip that area again. But no, she had to rush over to see what the problem was and offer advice. No, she’s not the teacher. She’s just a real estate agent who’s taking the class.

Oh yeah, and as I finished using certain glazes, I was setting the lids on the buckets - not sealing them, just setting them on top to keep drips from possibly going from one glaze to another. She didn’t like that either. I was told to leave the lids beside the buckets. By that point, I decided this woman is ever-so-slightly anal, and I think I understand why she’s still unmarried.

Last step after dipping the pieces in glaze is to wipe any excess glaze off the bottoms and lower edges, so a not to fuse the piece to the kiln with glaze. She reminded me to do this. I’d already done it to 10 of my 12 pieces. By this time, I’d tuned her out. Then I set all my stuff in the kiln room, washed my hands, and went home.

FCD needed some more stuff at Lowe’s, so we rode down, then went for a late lunch early dinner. Then we came home and cleaned the basement. The old vacuum cleaner that I got from a coworker finally died, but I’d managed to suck up a bunch of woodchips before that happened. We moved my wheel into the future studio, and I loaded some garbage on the cart, coiled up some electric cords, and put away some stuff. Once I pooped out, I de-pooped the cat box, took out the dog, then crashed here in front of the computer. I need a shower.

I feel better now that I’ve ranted about my stoopit classmate. And I feel jealous of swampy and Shibb, because they’re both super-neato-keen and they’re together and I’m hundreds of miles away. And I want ice cream. Guess I’ll have to make do with a sugar-free popsicle. <sigh>

Break!!! OK, just a little one. I think I have one more container to plant and then I’m adding annuals to the side of the house and then I’m going to declare myself done for the day. I’d like to do more, but every time I come inside I see all the things I’ve been putting off in here and it’s driving me nuts. So I’ll probably come in, shower and do a major clean-up and laundry round. That’ll make me feel better, right?

Ooooooh, I can’t stand it when I have to deal with people like your classmate, FCM. There’s a lady who very occasionally helps out with garden stuff at church who is that very same personality. Not a horticulturist or landscape designer/architect and yet all-knowing in the ways of gardening and garden design. It is truly a test of one’s character and patience, sometimes. Last time we interacted, I decided I would pick my battles and pretty much just ignored her directions/comments on things I wasn’t going to give in on, or made comments about how the horticulturist I work with at the park endorsed X method. What gets me is that these types of personalities are unable to cope with the fact that there are several ways to do things and still be successful. It is difficult not to slap them.

Back to the garden…

Still waiting on the daughter to call me to pick her up. She left a message saying she’d call when she was ready and I still haven’t heard from her. I’m slightly irked because I need to get some other things done and had some other places to go. I couldn’t really go anywhere because I’ve been waiting on her.

I think I’m going to teach her about the “wonders” of public transportation. Yeah, about this time I wish I had a cellphone so could call her. The hubby looked at some plans last weekend, but we have yet to act.

Home. It’s nice to be home.

I did not kill my co-worker, but I came close. I was doing data entry out of printer’s catalogues. I did thirteen in the time it took for him to do half of one. And he kept complaining about being in a ‘Saturday mood’, and not feeling like really working. And he told me that he was depressed from moving and that made it hard for him to do anything. I had been at work for slightly under eleven hours by then. I did not bite his head off.

Argh.

I am going to lie on the couch and read and practice relaxing breathing techniques, and maybe I won’t kill him on Wednesday.

It’s a glorious, cool Sunday morning here, and it’s Mudding Day! Yay!

I don’t care, really. I’m just thrilled to turn the AC off and let the cool air in again. This should be a whole week of open windows.

I freed a frog this morning. Or a toad - I think it was a toad. When I took Bernie out for her morning pee, I saw what looked like a small mound of turd on the step from the garage to the kitchen. Turns out it was a toad. So after Bernie did her thing, I donned a gardening glove, then grabbed said critter and put it out back. It must have hopped in when the big garage door was open. Now (s)he’s free again!! Oh joyous day!

Yeah, I’m caffeinated - why do you ask?

I hear my spousal unit stirring - it’s time to get ready for labor in the basement. Have a loverly day, one and all!

I’m up! Cleaning. Then off to church and to visit a friend. And then back to the garden, I hope. Sounds like the weather may cooperate.

So, how long do you think your co-worker will actually last, Lissla?

Good morning everybody!

It’s raining here again; what a surprise. It’s a good thing we did that yard work yesterday.

Today I need to run out and buy a three ring binder for my son and I need to get some milk and fruit. Since it’s raining we won’t be doing any yardwork, so maybe I’ll get some stuff done in the house.

Other than that, I don’t have any plans for today. If the rain lets up enough, we’ll grill some burgers for dinner, but I think that’s about it.

Off to cruise the Dope some. I wonder how Swampy’s Tampafest turned out…

The problem is that the manager is almost never around when the part-timers are working, so he almost never witnessess the incompetent laziness of the co-worker. So I dunno. I hope he gets fired, but I think he’d have to seriously piss off one of the full-timers or do something monumentally stupid when the manager is around.

Stay tuned- the saga continues on Wednesday.

More pics! We mudded and tidied, then quit. I’ve got my third load in the washer. The rest of today should be nice and relaxing. It’s cool and sunny and good for chillin’.

Hello all. Yesterday was one of the most brutal days at work I have ever had. I am off today–and not real pleased to be off. Here’s why:

The hardest day of any 2 day stretch is the first one–you dont’ know the pts, you don’t know the plan of care etc. Second day is MUCH easier, since you now know the pt’s meds, the plan of care etc. So, I busted my ass yesterday and can’t now “enjoy” the fruits of my labor. Instead, I am working Wednesday, when I will have different pts, with different meds, different plans of care etc.

Then again, tis a gorgeous day and I have no plans. Yay! I’m gonna dig out the pup tent for #2 son (purchased at a garage sale several years ago for $2–brand new, never been used), so that he can go “camping”.

Husband is painting the ceilings-not the kitchen ceiling, which needs to be done first- but heck, it’s painting and it’s getting done. If I end up doing the kitchen, at least I won’t have had to do all of them. See? I do look for the positivity…
FCM -those people need killing. Then again, often I know a better way to do something, but I’ll suggest it, not act like it’s Holy Writ. If there’s anything that puts my back up, it’s being treated like a mentally challenged 12 y/o.

I am thinking of going out to Middewine (I have no idea how to spell it) today. It’s the former Joliet arsenal, now a prairie preserve. We went last year (me and kids) and loved it, despite the heat. Today is lovely…hmmmm. Maybe right after lunch.

#1 son gradumacates tomorrow! Is high school ready for him? Stay tuned.

Query: what is extramural and how does it aplply to courses in grad school? I’ve been limited to extramural courses–I have no idea what the hell that means. Ye, I finally got official notice of my acceptance. Letter is dated April 27. WTH? I need my mentor, er, Spats here! My dictionary says it means stuff off campus–but how am I to take the boot camp, which is on campus, if I am restricted to extramural courses?

Spats -good luck on your trip to Swampland aka Flawduh. I was born there-in Jacksonville and lived the first 4 years of my life in Gainesville. It was hot. It was humid–all the time. I was happy to move to IL, where it is only hot and humid for a few months at a time–and I dislike those. I was gonna move to Canada, but Lisslar says it’s tres hot there, too. Next stop, Norway!

anyhoo, hope you settle in well. Let us hear from you.

Nice FCM! You’ve made lots of progress. I certainly wouldn’t be that far along.

I’m fixing to get in the shower and get cleaned up. Hubby wants to head off to a grill place and buy some really good meat rub they have there. After that, we’ll stop at Fred Meyer to buy a three ring binder for my son, some milk and couple of other odds and ends.

Then back home to putz around here.

I feel positvely lazy compared to FCM.

We’re at the beach today! Yay us! We drove Moby (the great white whale) over. (More about Moby in a minute.) When we got here the grass was 3’ high, so I got out the old mower and mowed! It hurt the whole time I was doing it, but I did it! (This makes me happy) Okay, Wifey took some turns too. But I did most of it.
The sky opened up here last night and looks like it could again at any moment, so we’re hanging around the cabin today veggin’. Unfortunateny we have to go back tomorrow early, and I probably won’t get back here this summer, 'cause I’ve been talked into doing this farmers market thing every Sunday starting next week through September.

About Moby; cowgirl sister was mis-informed (not the first time) about Moby. It doesn’t get 20 mpg, it gets maybe 15mpg. Still, it’s the first vehicle I’ve had in 20 years that I didn’t have to fold myself up to get in and out of. Wlfey loves it too. sigh I don’t know what we’re going to do with it.

Later.

Only if you’re in a coma today. We’re watching TV, I’m playing computer games, and occasionally running downstairs to move wet clothes from washer to dryer. Once we quit mudding, we quit everything. Ah, restful bliss…

Back from our errands. We drove out to the grill place we went to last year to buy some killer meat rub. When we arrived, the store wasn’t there anymore. We were very disappointed, but, well, what can you do.

On the way back home, we stopped at Fred Meyer to pick up a few things. Yeah, right. Every time I take the hubby along, I spend way more money than I normally would. He was looking at a home entertainment system, but I put the kibosh on that. I told him we’d do that later; in a few months.

I went to Fred Meyer to pick up a three ring binder, milk, hamburger buns, condiments for the hamburgers, Aleve, fruit, and kitty litter. Alas, we walked out with all kinds of other stuff that hubby put into the cart.

The weather is kind of blustery today. On again and off again rain. I think I’ll just putter around the house and finish reading my paper.

FCM, that looks great, I second Taters, you make me feel like a big-time slacker!

Yesterday, we had a surprise birthday party for Laura - the Organizer Neighbor. She runs the block party, knows everyone on the street and is a sweetheart. As any party does in this neighborhood, it pretty much evolved into a mini-block party. The good part is I know the way home, and don’t have any nasty DWI things to fret.

Wife and I just got back from Lilac buying. Now I must get into the backyard, dig 5 holes and get these things in the ground.

Back later…
