Oh yeah? I can’t find a job. Envy me!
Okay…fine…I envy ya…

I’ve changed my mind. I think I do not have conjunctivitis. I think it’s an allergic reaction of some sort. Both eyes have now swollen up and the eyelids are itchy and hurty and bothersome. That doesn’t usually happen when I get pinkeye. Last time it happened, I decided it was a reaction to my new awesome white eyeshadow, but I haven’t used it since then… and haven’t worn any makeup in about a week or put anything odd on my face. I also woke up yesterday with my lips chapped and swollen when they were fine the day before.
rats. I was kind of hoping I was contagious and could skip the whole work thing today.
Nice shoes, Spats.
Enpila isn’t there a way to make a pizza on the grill or something? I dunno. There’s a way to do everything.
Where ya lookin’, LOUNE? Have you tried any temp agencies? They’re a good way to get a foot in the door and see if you even want to stay.
OK…scarfed the ear of corn and am now more daintily ingesting a mango and some strawberries and a yogurt.
Meant to respond to Dot earlier… 1) stay home, and 2) awww…a parakeet. I actually read your other thread, so I’d found out… I used to have a blue parakeet. Named Rover. I didn’t name him. Honest. Oh, and briefly a turquoise one named Orca. Also not named by me. They were very entertaining.
OK…just about off to run errands…

Husband has returned from Home Despot. He pretty much stuck to his list; but did add a couple of things.
He’s fixing to head out to the yard and start edging and mowing. I still need to take a shower.
I’m thinking that next weekend I’ll be perusing plants. I want easy care. I just basically want to stick the stuff in the ground, and water it once in awhile. This is why I don’t buy roses.
That’s all I’ve got. It’s not lunch time here; it’s only 9:30.
I did some edging this morning - 2 hours worth of new edging along my new fence (a.k.a. The Great Wall of China). I got a cople hundred feet of edge cut, then turned soil for about 45 minutes, then threw in the towel. Had a beer, had some lunch, and we’re gonna take the kids to the Swan Boats in Boston’s Public Garden (Make way for the Ducklings!). No cook outs, no bar-b-q, no parties today.
Mr. Anachi and I went to Pebble Junction this morning. But it was closed.
No, we weren’t looking for a monument stone for Dog Face, sillies! We wanted to get some ideas for our back yard landscaping. Mr. Anachi wants to put in a small pool someday. I told him he best win the lottery then.
On the way back, he decided he was in the mood for some dogs on the grill. No, sillies, not the puggy or the chihuahua…some beef hotdogs. He’s cooking them now.
rue, you by any chance have elms around where you saw the oriole? They like to nest in them. We had a pair nest each year in our elms when I was growing up…until the Dutch Elm disease got the trees.
Hungry, gonna go eat now.
Today’s schedule? Clean, pack, clean, pack, go to Home D for paint for the new place, clean, pack, take an SDMB break, clean, pack, go next door to a BBQ at the in-laws’ place, clean, pack, clean, pack, watch some TV, sleep. Intersperse “take care of the baby” throughout as well.
Happy Memorial Day, y’all!
I’m still being a lazy bum. But last night I was construction helper for a bit. Hubby’s building the mutha of all shelves for our 5 million pound TV in the bedroom. We used to have it on a dresser, but he wanted to build a built-in shelf for it. He’s been dreaming and designing it for about a year.
So I helped put away tools and vacuumed the carpet under his mess. And then I vacuumed the rest of the room, and used the little tool to vacuum the dog hair out of two bathrooms.
And I made steaks! Today it’s raining. It’s a good thing - we need it! So I will get damp when I attempt to make a beer butt chicken.
Enjoy your day!
Did you get one of those little contraptions to sit the beer butt chicken on Rebo? They’re handy dandy little stands that won’t tip over accidentally on the grill. I’m gonna have to do some beer butt chicken(s) soon, I think.
Dots just on the off chance you are contagious, don’t go to work. Plus, you need to rest up cause exams start tomorrow, remember.
Spats snazzy sneaks there!
Loune what type of work are you looking for? Just nosy.
Tomorrow I head for Sarasota for work. Then I’m going to Tampa for what I hope will be a dopefest on Saturday. So far, it looks like Shibb and me. Not that meeting Shibb wouldn’t be a wondrous thing in and of itself, but I was hoping for a few more dopers. Oh well, can’t have it all I guess.
Back from parade, which was fun-until the speeches started afterwards. I am all for honoring vets, but it’s like 90 outside, with almost no breeze and no shade where the VFW hall is at. Again this year, the paramedics were picking people up like dead flies and getting them into the rig.
They need to shorten the speeches–and do we really need 2 pastors officiating?
It was very moving to hear the roll call, though–they start with the Civil War, which is beyond cool. (at my parent’s summer home on Cape Cod, they have Minute Men drill with muskets–how cool is that?). Wow.
Thinking of taking #2 son to see Thru the Woods or Under the Hedge or the Hedge Down Under or whatever today.
I am boycotting painting or household anything today. Husband is supposed to go out to his houseboat and do work on it–so far, he hasn’t moved(?).
Spats -no spats? And don’t get et by a gator!
Nothing else to report. I had a dream that I was fired–this is not good. I can’t afford to get fired! Also need to look at the financial aid for grad school, soon. Lots to do this week between work and the kitchen and school prep and 8th grade graduation and…
Shoot-forgot again! Why is Hal packing all manner of stuff? And the baby doesn’t go in a box!

Everyone working so hard, going to parades and me, just sitting here on my tail, watching baseball and getting some work done…work as in, ya know…for WORK.
Other than that, I’m not doing squat today. I have some salmon ready for dinner whenever I get around to feel like dinner.
Finished the Da Vinci Code, all in one piece yesterday evening/night. One long comic book without the fun pictures. Entertaining, yey crappy.
Ok, back to work…
MBG it is my not so humble opinion that all of Dan Brown’s writing can be described as crappy. He don’t rite reel gud.
Currently, I’m carpet bombing Monster.com with my resume. I’m an English major applying for any job that isn’t “finance” or “engineering” in the Detroit area. That way, if i’m underqualified, then at least my name is in the pile and they have to take me out. Who knows, maybe something would be suitable at those workplaces and I might be swimming around their system.
Oh, I don’t know. I figured out the puzzle in the Da Vinci Code, but I liked Angels and Demons and Digital Fortress much better.
He did some great work for that “Arthur” series. He really nailed the mindset of that little aardvark boy and his bunny rabbit friend.
I’m fated not to read the DaVinci Code. That type of book never fails to disappoint me and make me think of some other book that was much better written and more entertaining. Guess who was a lit major?
Back from Garden Ridge, Lowe’s, and the nursery. About to throw another load in the washer and then it’s out to plant containers. I think I have everything. If not, then I’ll improvise.
Then it’s out front to plant stuff in the holes that I dug this morning. And to mulch. And to finish off the side of the house.
Then I’ll be collapsing in a heap.
Oh and rigs, Hal is packing cuz he’s moving. Bought a nice ol’ house. There was a thread…

Well, I’m not one of the Cool Kids, but I’m bored and I got stuff to say, so I’m posting anyway.
The oldest boy is on the plane to Hawaii as I type, and I’m still nervous about it, but he might be okay. The other two boys and the ex and I will throw some poke chops on the grill later and maybe do some swimming. The ex will make some passive-agressive remarks which I will do my best to ignore while sending telepathic messages to the boys to also ignore them which they will do. Good times, good times.
Saturday I found my little brother over the internet through his electrician’s license and sent him a text message. Yesterday he called me, we did some catching up, and now planning a visit. I hadn’t spoken to him in 10 years, and had spent a long time looking for him. I’m so happy about this I could bust.
Happy Memorial Day, you Dopers!
Not one of the cool kids? Phooey, sure you are! Just 'cause you’re here, that makes you cool enough.
That is so neat about your brother, that kind of news should make up for having the ex over for the grilling, right?
Well, bless you Taters for remembering. Took 17 posts before anybody acknowledged what the holiday is for.
I’m thinking about a lot of buddies that didn’t make it.
