Absolutely. I’m pretty good at not letting him get to me, but today not even comments about the size of my ass will bother me… squee!
KlondikeGeoff I know what today is for. I too, have those who are personally close to my heart who died in war or are veterans of war. Of all of those, my father is the closest. He was a veteran of WWII. He passed away two years ago from Alzheimer’s Disease, but I shall never forget that what he did made for a whole lot better place for me to live. So, here’s to Dad and to all Veterans. THANK YOU!!! From the bottom of my heart.
trublemakr just showin’ up here makes you a cool kid. Really, that’s all it takes. You and KlondikeGeoff are now officially MMP Cool Kids. Here’s hoping the both of ya will come back and hang out. FCM accepts all offers of chocolate. I accept all offers of cookies and beer. Everybody else, well, they can just fend for themselves, though they are Cool Kids and I love 'em all. So There!
Really, there’s enough sofas, lounge chairs, bean bags, water beds, whatever you want for everybody to sit on.
Howdy Rue! Good to see ya. Here’s to a week of not so much disgusting stuff poppin’ out of animals, though we do enjoy a good disgustin’ stuff poppin’ out of animals story.
OOPS! I forgot…
trublmakr special YAYS!!! for the news about your younger brother. Here’s hoping all goes well and y’all can be together as sibs again.
I dunno 'bout it taking 17 posts for someone to remember–I posted about the parade here in town right away. What else IS the parade, but a tribute to those who served and those who fell?
The vets here in [del]Mayberry[/del] town got standing ovations and much cheering and applause. We have 3 just back from Iraq. No more WW1 vets, though.
I am getting old–I remember when there were some. I miss the Shriners as well–silly old men on mini-bikes, wearing odd hats (fezs)-but they do good work (or did-do the Shriners still exist?).
The weather here is breaking–the sky is black and thunder rolls every 2 minutes. I fear we’re if for a doozy (except I don’t fear, since I loves me some thunderstorms!).
I have new shoes for work that I am breaking in. So far, so good. We didn’t go to the movies–I felt sick after the parade and speeches and laid down for awhile (I don’t tolerate heat well at all) and then did a bit of gardening (I lasted about 15 minutes). I am now freshly showered and helping my daughter with her ancestry chart for AP European History.
I also crave ribs and brownies. I’ll skip the tater (N.O.T.) salad–I don’t like mayonaise. Nice garden salad would be good, though–with a lil bleu cheese, mebbe…lemon meringue pie or just some somemores. Nummers.
Anyone who posts here is a Cool Kid–it’s in the SDMB rule book. Just ask Ed.
Oh! Here I thought the Cool Kids was some sort of secret society, and I wasn’t eligible. <chants in a singsong voice> I’m a cool kid, I’m a cool kid!<ciassv>
::Looks around for some chocolate, cookies and beer:: Does a half-eaten old chocolate easter bunny and some stale peanut butter Girl Scout cookies count? I drank all the beer, but I do have some cream sherry to offer.
As far as my brother goes, ten years ago I made some decisions that some of my family didn’t agree with such as moving here across the country, and became the official Black Sheep of the family. My little brother and I used to be very close (as adults- growing up we hated each other), but he was very hurt at me moving away, and we lost touch. I’ve thought of him often over the years, and have missed him terribly. I looked for him for a year, until I finally found a phone number online. I didn’t know how he’d react to me calling, so text messaging is a wonderful thing- it allows you to reach out without fear of rejection. Fortunately, it seems he is no longer harboring any ill will, and we can pick up where we left off. I can’t wait until he visits, and sees how my middle son looks *exactly * like him, and gets to know his other nephews.
Life is good right now, and you betcher ass that today I’m thinking of and thanking the service members that have given their lives so that we can have freedoms that we take for granted.
OK…I’ve wilted. Planted my two tomato plants and one more container and then moved a bunch of containers to where they’re actually going to live.
So I’ve declared it time for a dinner break. Shower, mac & cheese, tangerine, then it’s back out to at least plant the stuff that goes in the front part of the crabapple bed.
I lead an exciting life.

Just time for a quick pre-shower post with pics. We’ve started drywall. We ran out of steam, so we’ve quit for the night. FCD is off work tomorrow - he intends to finish the drywall. I’ll have to stop for groceries on my way home from the office, then I’ll be back down there laboring.
My feet hurt. I need chocolate. And a foot rub.
G’trav (I’m trying something out here), you work too hard.
Dan Brown wrote the Arthur series? I would look for our myriad Arthur books, but my house looks like a bomb went off–isn’t the author’s name Marc something?
Or is this a whoosh?
Off to pick up #1 son from a water balloon fight at a friend’s house. Yes, you read that correctly.
Well, I recognized myself. I think. How does one pronounce it? Kinda like G’day? Sounds kinda cool.
As for the work thing, well, maybe, but the state of my garden has been driving me nuts because I’ve pretty much played my way through weekends all spring, so I figured I could make lotsa progress if I did one gardening overload weekend. And so far, I have.
Further reports and maybe even maybe pics after a while.

Jeebus–raining cats and dogs (but not men, sadly enough) over here. Thunder and lightning and all manner of rain. Could hardly drive #1 son home in it. Flash flood warnings and all.
What’s worse is that I come home to find husband grilling out in the garage --yep, with the mowers and the gas containers. AND THE NEW KITCHEN CABINETS.
now, he is not doing this with the garage door shut, so he has some sense–EXCEPT THAT THE RAIN IS BEING DRIVEN INTO THE GARAGE BY THE WIND AND GETTING THE NEW CABINETS WET.
I put out the grill and moved the cabinets back. His response? “I wanted to grill out.”
I have a very private list of people who need killing. It got longer today.
Happy Monday! I had to work today, getting ready for inventory on Wed.
gt, sounds like the weather has made you garden a hosta envirment.(sorry, couldn’t let rifty get all the puns.)
ivy I agree about bbq. I just made some bbq style pork chops(marinated with hot peppers and vinegar) on the George Forman “Grill”. Though its a “grill”, not a grill. A grill invoves fire and I don’t think George should be combusting in my kitchen.
Hey trubl, of course you are a Cool Kid[sup]tm[/sup]! They even let me join! Congrats on the brother. i used to be the black sheep(I think I was, there has been some competition over the years).
rigs I had a roommate like your husband. He used to butter his bread before toasting it. :dubious: I had to explain the concept of “grease fires” before he stopped.
“I once killed a man for sport”- Frenchie the Clown.
well, I guess I wasn’t missed.
: pout:
Happy Memorial Day - hope you all enjoyed all your cookouts and parades and days at the beach/park/pool etc. I stayed home and watched a L&O:CI marathon. I’m not adjusting well to the new pain med - tramadol (sounds like “dammitall” - I laugh everytime I pick up the bottle) or maybe I just need a different dosage. I’ll be calling the doc tomorrow.
Hi rosie!! Sorry the meds aren’t doing the job for you.
Hi first-time Cool Kids!
Glad you found your brother, trubl.
doggo, you know that much of what I transplanted was hostas. Right? Right!!! (IOW, your pun hit the nail right on the head… And made me laugh.)
Loved your pic. Pet pool party!!! Hee.
rigs, is there no end to the eye-roll inducing hubby stories? Didn’t think so. I think we’re getting your rain tomorrow afternoon. Sometime after 4, they’re saying. I think sometime after 5:30 would be better.
Cool pics, FCM. I envy your construction skills.
Good luck with the job hunt, LOUNE.
I’ve always wanted to see an Oriole. Really. Aren’t they the ones that have really cool nests? Hangy ones, I think. ::Crosses fingers and hopes she’s right.:: Somehow, I never see anything particularly impressive. There were crows cawing at me (or at life) while I was gardening. And I always see robins and jays and cardinals. I keep growing stuff that’s supposed to attract hummingbirds, but I’ve never seen one in my garden. But an Oriole would be cool
I’m exhausted. I was sure I didn’t have any beer in the fridge, but it turns out I still had 2 (count them: 2) bottles of Bohemia. I’m enjoying one of them as I type. Well, between sentences, really. Otherwise my typing would be really slow.
Gonna read for a while, and then…beddy-bye.

Marc Brown wrote the Arthur books. I was making a small joke. (At least it was funny to me.)
p.s. Helen and Linda Hunt are sisters.
Don’t worry, rosie, no one missed me either, and I’m practically a founding Cool Kid. Two (or possibly three) years, dammit! Whine!
Argh. We’ve got insane heat and humidity here right now. It is (I checked the conversion table) 85F with stupid humidity. At ten thirty at night. In Canada. I am going to move to Nunavut or possibly the Arctic Circle.
I was not online all of yesterday or today because Mr. Lissar tried to fix the cd/dvd burner. He wiped and tried to reformat the computer, except Dell computers only take Windows that was marketed specifically by Dell  He had to buy an external hard drive to shift all our stuff to because the damn cd burner wasn’t working. We are in the process of trying to get everything working, and they’re mailing us something or other. We only got this computer in November! It shouldn’t break already!
Have I mentioned that it’s damn hot and we don’t have our tiny little air conditioner installed yet? At work we all walked around saying, “It’s hot! I hate summer!”, except for one co-worker who is nice but a freak because she loves steamy tropical heat. She was wearing two layers and long sleeves. It was ninety today.
Anyway, we Canadians celebrate our troops and stuff in November, but happy Memorial Day to y’all, and may we please cancel summer and go back to spring?
Whew! I am pooped and sore. We’ve spent all day in the yard and garden weeding, mowing, cutting edges with the Edge Hog and then the weed whacker, etc. I’m sore. The front is done and about half of the back is done. We ran out of room in our big, giganto grass/yard waste recycling bin. It’s too heavy, so the hubby is going to take it to the dump/recycling place to empty it tomorrow. Then we’ll finish the weeding.
I started cleaning our old grill and Mr. Taters looked at it and said, "Ew, that thing really is looking crappy. Let’s buy a new grill.
I just kind of went, " :dubious:
 and said, “Okay”.
So we dashed off to Lowes, where we found one with hardly any effort. I was looking at some $299.00 dollar one, and the hubby was looking at one that was $499.00. Guess which one we got. Yup, that’s right, the more expensive one. I would have been happy with the other one, but, oh well. Mr. Taters has wanted a new grill for awhile, so I guess that’s out of the way now. It’s one of those stainless steel grills, and comes with the rotisserie. It also has the side burner on it. Tomorrow we’re doing a turkey breast roast on it.
Tonight we grilled chicken sausages that had feta cheese and spinach in them. They were pretty good. The nice thing about this grill is that there was absolutely NO flare-up at all.
Lest you think we are trashing the old grill, we aren’t. One of our neighbors took it. He was very happy with it because his grill only had one burner working and it was about ready for the dump.
My back is kind of sore from all the bending and stooping I was doing today.
Oh! Guess what! We were admiring another neighbor’s water feature and I was expressing how much I liked it. Hubby said, " I can make a nicer one than that. It’ll be fun; let’s do it!"
I’m fine with that, but I don’t think he realizes how spendy this will be.
Welcome to the new Cool Kids.
I hope everyone had a pleasant day. I raised a toast to our soldiers; those that are currently serving; those that have served, but are home safe, and those that have fallen. My Dad is a Vietnam vet and my FIL was a Korean War vet.
Plus, I work with soldiers everyday. They are all close to my heart.
I’m going to sign off now. I’m achy and tired. I must be getting old and I’m most definitely out of shape. :o
Gracias, gardentraveler.
Stupid employers…grumble
A big thank you to TubaDiva, who at my request changed the capitalization of my username so people won’t think I have issues with snake scat.
Had a wonderful laugh this morning. Mr. SCL was getting dressed to go to the memorial service for his cousin, when he discovered the suit pants he was planning on wearing were too small. He has always been thin, but in the last five years or so has actually started looking more thin than skinny. I told him it was his late 49th birthday gift. Heeeheeehee.
Hope everyone had a good Memorial Day.
gt --apparently there is no end to the stories, but I have noticed that it goes in spurts. Perhaps we are through the most recent bout. Or perhaps he is on my last nerve d/t a “dialogue” we had on Sunday. I’ll spare you the details.
Off to work (why do we do this again?). it is already 70 here and so muggy you could slice the air in front of you. Seriously-it feels like Florida in August here. Blech.
Not much to say (so when did that stop me?).
I heard something at a speech yesterday that sounds so like an urban myth that I must ask it here. (I will put it in GQ tomorrow). I heard that Fred Rogers, of Neighborhood fame had been in the service (that’s not the odd part) and had tattoos all up his arms, from wrist to shoulder, bilaterally. Hence, he wore long sleeves at all times.
Doesn’t that sound implausible to you all? It does to me.
Here’s hoping for a nice day at work. I believe I may be turning curmudgeonly. Very grouchy today, and tired. Grrr.
