It's the MDMMP!! (Memorial Day Monday Morning Post...Fool!)

The pun, the puns! God save us from the puns!

:Taps foot aggressively: And when are you going to get around to posting the recipe? :dubious:

The first one on this page looks pretty interesting.

You’ll have leftovers too.

::running off to catch 9 hens::

The Moonlite Barbecue recipe on the page MBG linked is what we had; that’s where the burgoo came from! An emissary brought us some from Owensboro.

It’s really really hot. Could someone please make it be winter again?

I’m trying to decide if I want to go downtown and buy some unecessary beads to make a highly unecessary necklace. I made a really over-the-top beaded choker a couple of days ago in silver and clear crystal, and I want to make another one in red and black.

The cat just hopped on my lap. Get down, evil beastie! I’m all sticky!

I think we’ll either have fondue or pita and dip for dinner. Anything that doesn’t involve real cooking.

When I was a little sprout, I hated summer. Now, I don’t mind whne it gets hotter. Dad LOVES it when it’s really hot and really humid. The hotter and more humid, the better. Winter is bad. Can’t have (as much) fun outside. No outdoor sex is possible in the winter. When I win the lottery, I’ll never be cold again, dammit.

Did someone say puns? I’m only too happy to oblige.

Personally, I think this one and the one yesterday are sort of eh. I’ll be trying something new for tomorrow to give it more direction. Just you wait and see.

Snopes says it’s false. I love Snopes, it has the (heh) straight dope on so many bullshit stories.

Today is more video games, mostly the Metroid ones. I’m also waiting for my high school English teacher to email me back so we can have lunch this week before I head off to Florida. And I need to read the Dartmouth Handbook for Grad Students, and then possibly send them emails to ask questions. What a busy life I lead. :o

I go to Florida in five days. Now THAT is hot.

Cats always seem to get affectionate when you’re all hot and sweaty, that way more fur sticks to you. It’s a cat thing.
I had to work Memorial Day, from 11am to 9pm. It was supposed to be longer but things finally slowed down and my feet were on fire and I could not walk anymore, so I left early. I got to eat my lunch around 8pm, an hour later I got dinner. My legs and feet still hurt. I need new shoes, my shoes are not good for long shifts, although I don’t think anything would help with ten hours straight on one’s feet.

Kitties love heat. =^.^= Smokey is never happier than in the sun, even when the a/c wasn’t working. Silly Kitty

This is a perfect example of the Evil that all cats have in thier very marrow. Note that it’s not just regular, every day evil. It’s Evil.

The Shriners still exist, and still do good work - see AAONMS. 21 orthopeadic, burn, and spinal cord hospitals in Mexico, USA, and Canada.

Please, if anyone knows of a child in need of serious medical care, contact a local Masonic Lodge. Besides the Shrine, the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children is “one of the nation’s leading pediatric centers for the treatment of orthopedic conditions, certain related neurological disorders and learning disorders, such as dyslexia.”

Sorry for the hijack.

The beauty of the MMP:

It is it’s own hijack.

Thanks for the info, i was wondering myself.

We have a Shriner’s Hospital here

My kitties are mostly lying around on the nice cool floor, looking reproachful.

I left them all alone.

But I got lots of pretty beads, and a chocolate chiller (Second Cup concoction: a slushy made out of hot chocolate mix, milk, and crushed ice. Yum)

I will putter at crafts for one hour and then I will do some housework.

My hockey jersey is here! It came from the West Coast so I decided it took the scenic route.

It is 94 degrees outside. That is entirely too damned hot for May. By August I will have melted into a puddle of goo. I wanted to do some yardwork but to hell with that!

those of you pining for winter? fie on you!!! Need I remind you of sub-freezing temps? 4 foot high snow drifts? and asshats in mammoth SUVs who think owning that vehicle means they don’t have to practice safe driving habits.
Gimmee summer with obnoxious motorcyclists darting in and out of stopped rush hour traffic.

Nope. I’ll take winter. No screaming teenagers out in the middle of the street at two in the morning, no heat, no bugs, no humidity, sweaters and hot chocolate, a reason to eat all the grease you want (insulation), pretty snow, no smog, Christmas, wood fires and apple cider.

Winter all the way.

I just got back from a 45 minute massage at the hands of the Dryly Sarcastic Jennifer.

Today just got better, thank you Jennifer.

And poo on winter.

Actually…I just want to live somewhere with a less variable climate. Something nice and moderate. Some snow in the winter, but not too much; some heat in the summer, but not too much. Surely such a place exists? With no other down-sides, of course.

Ellen, I knew about burgoo because they did a Hidden Kitchens story about the tradition on NPR a ways back. Just looked for the link and - lo and behold! - they were actually in Owensboro for the story. I linked to the Hidden Kitchens page because they’ve had lots of good stories (and it’s about food, so I know it will be popular). The burgoo story is from November 5, 2004, so you’ll have to scroll down a bit.

Also:

I completely agree! It usually takes me till about Thursday to notice that regular contributors are gone. And that’s in a good week.

I’m just stopping in to say hi for a moment… I’m heading out to garden for a while. I’m seeing mixed reports of whether we’re about to get storms. I’m at least going to do up some more containers.

Back after a while…

GT

gt, I live in the Pacific Northwest for exactly the reasons you’ve listed. We have a nice, moderate climate (most of the time).
