It's the memorial day charlie brown MMP!

Happy Toosday!

The sun is out now, I don’t know for how long. Going to get up close to 90 today.
Looks like we had a good rain overnight, good for the plants.

Today is going to be a bit convoluted. I have some things scheduled, and I hope everything falls in line so I don’t feel rushed.

Today is the first day of school for my son, compressed summer class, I think he has to read 8 chapters in the first week.
He is really sick today too, stuffy nose, coughing, sore throat, he looks and sounds horrible.

He wants to knock down the bird’s nests. I think we should check for eggs first. I really don’t have a problem with the nests being there, but I’m not sure how the mail person is going to feel about it. They have to open the storm door to put the mail in the slot, which they should be far enough away not to get bits of nest in their hair. However, I don’t know if when the babies come if the birds are going to dive bomb anybody who gets too close.
I guess we’ll have to pull out the ladder and take a look.

Thank you MetalMouse, I think. My life is pretty boring and mundane, but that is okay by me.

Afternoon all. Just got back from my road trip- mostly went OK, but I was supposed to be meeting up with 3 different friends -one on the way down, two on the way back, and all 3 of them cancelled; well one just didn’t show ‘cos his alarm didn’t wake him- we were s’posed to meet at 11.30… The others had, in order, forgotten their kid had an event that overlapped and had a migraine. Dad’s birthday was nice though, nothing went too badly wrong and I think people enjoyed it. No fights though, so maybe we’re not doin’ it right.

We did have a holiday here yesterday, but it’s not memorial day, it’s just called the ‘Late May Bank Holiday’ and appears to be because of reasons. I’m not sure if one of my granddads fought in WWII, he died when I was teeny. None on the other side did; Grandpa got an exemption for the draft due to being a vital farm worker, his older brother was rejected on health grounds and his baby half brother was too young. Some of the girls were army nurses though. I think my Dad would have been a liability in the army- he’d be wandering off looking at birds and nicking camouflage gear to make a hide.

My plans for the rest of the week are pretty much nothing.

Groceries picked up and mostly put away.
The canned goods are still sitting in their bags because I am stuffed from lunch and don’t want to move.
Ripple is bugging me, are we gonna go ma, are we gonna go, comeon ma, it’s time to go, we can go now please, okay, please are we gonna go.
He’s laying down now, but I can see him watching me, looking for the tiniest indication that I might be getting up.
We can’t go now because I have a business call scheduled for 3; hopefully it won’t last long and we can go afterwards.

The neighbor told my son he wanted to talk to me a minute, I guess he just needs somebody to talk to. He says he is leaving, has to now because she came home from irk and caught him in bed with another woman. He said that since they are broke up she can’t say anything about it. I said, no, even though you are broke up, you still don’t bring it home. Then he offered to help my son level the patio, which I don’t see happening anytime soon. He also offered to help plant the flowers, but I know my son would rather do it himself.

Tomorrow Ripple will be in daycare, so I hope to get a lot done.
My son has pizza and tv dinners, so I don’t need to cook.

I wonder how differences like that come to be. You would think that the design of something in one country would be used in another.
The USA uses 60 Hz for AC current, and Europe uses 50Hz. The Japanese use both, since their country was assisted in rebuilding by both the USA and Europe after WWII.

Howdy Y’all! I laundered, got the cave somewhat sanitized, and got the lawn mower thing situated. Next up, makeage of tacos (OLÈ!).

My father was in the navy and served in the pacific during WW II. I was in the navy 66-70, but the closest I got to combat was an aircraft carrier off the coast of Vietnam.
Didn’t have any relatives or know anybody who was killed in combat, tho I did know/work with some guys who were killed in other ways. I tend to get snarly, on the inside anyway, when somebody thanks me for my service. I didn’t do anything special or noteworthy in the navy and was pretty much a big ol’ jerk the whole time.

We had a nice, but long weekend. Saturday we drove up to Port Orchard Washington to Oldest Grandson’s place and met up with many family members, one of whom, #2Granddaughter, graduated from Pacific Lutheran College that day. Son and DIL also had a birthday part planned for their daughter’s third birthday for Sunday. All seven of our great grandchildren were there. It was a zoo, but much fun was had by all.

Sunday we drove down to eastern Orygun to look at a house Wifey wanted to consider buying. We could possibly ‘retire’ over there. I’m already ‘retired’ but Wifey still works. If she didn’t we wouldn’t be able to afford our ‘lavish lifestyle’.
You know, eating 3 meals a day, etc. Anyway, if we sold our house here in the valley and moved to a small, inexpensive house over there we might be able to live within our means. :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, the house she was interested in wouldn’t do, but on the way home we stopped in a little town called Maupin, on the Deschutes river, and found a little house that had great possibilities. She called on it this morning and… it was sold over the weekend. :frowning:
We’re not giving up though. We think Maupin is poised to take off and we hope we can find something there before property values get out of sight.

Anyway, got home last night pretty exhausted. Couldn’t get the boys out of puppy jail til this morning though. Seems to me that if you’re gonna advertise that you’re open 7 days a week, but you’re closed on holidays, you oughtta make that clear. Like; “We’re open seven days a week, except when we aren’t.”:stuck_out_tongue:

Of course nothing went as planned.

Since my son is sick he had a hard time getting out of bed to go get groceries. So that took longer than expected. Then I sat around hear waiting to call somebody at 3, just to have them send me a text saying they couldn’t talk right then. They suggested 3:30, I said how about 5, they agreed. So I rushed to get Ripple to the park, rushed home, only to have them tell me they can’t talk, forgot to text me, and can I call tomorrow.

I said okay, but I have no idea when.

Anyway, one of the foxglove is looking a bit wilted, so I guess I will water everything and then come in to go to irk. I forgot to feed Antlers this morning too, so I can put some food out. Poor kitty, sometimes I need a reminder.

I’m ready to quit for the day.

Ripple ran out the gate before I could get it closed, We finally got him, but what a mess to get him.
Now my son is coughing up blood and refuses to go to the doctor.

Methinks that’s the point that he no longer has an input–drag his ass to the ER post haste.

Remind him of what happened to Jim Henson.

Back home & feeling alive now. Not much sleep there; never is, but this year I got nightly stereophonic concerts by the NY Snorephany Orchestra; which made the limited sleep even worse - there are 4 beds in a row in the loft & three of us sleeping up there. I was the last to arrive; had my choice of one of the middle beds, between the other two guys, or the other end bed. Chose the middle bed, because if you stand up too fast in the end bed (of an A-frame) building it’s…painful!

On Sat, I went to a national cemetery. There were three graves in a row that were “Unknown” two of them only had that, while the third had a cross on it. How did they know? Was he buried w/ a cross on a necklace or a tattoo?
Some intertubing looks like they are reintered remains of British soldiers from the war of 1812.

Got a photo that I’ve wanted for 5 years! & did a coupla canyons yesterday. Started off the summer season with some hamburgers for dinner; well, iffn you can call the Scottish golden arches hamburgers, but w/ a six-hour ride home I didn’t want to waste time, or sitting, in a real restaurant.

I thought he got sick from shoving his hand up a frog’s butt. :stuck_out_tongue:
However, Sari, I kinda agree.

butters, I hope that your hubby’s hand geals soon.

reporter, I love doggy birthday parties! My little guy’s first birthday was brunch at the park with the heathens with donations taken for the shelter and the dog park section within spitting distance.

Moooooom, check out the handicapped accessible dressing room. Many have a toddler seat, complete with straps, just like family/handicapped restrooms do. They want the business of those who shop with kids.

It was back to irk today. The old bat came back…surprise, surprise. She had the audacity to complain that the rest of us didn’t have her area finished. Oh, well. :stuck_out_tongue:

Nelson got a big lick from Snoop, the mastiff this morning. :stuck_out_tongue: Shows just how much of a sweetheart he is.

Just because we need a new page.

Everybody called out, and I had the world’s worst floater pharmacist. But I may be off tomorrow.

Last time I did that, it was Evan, not Mel.

A new page? Good knight, sir!

sari , get Sah-son to an ER stat!

Sari, same advice as Alien and doggio and others; coughing up blood means (at minimum) something is torn and is bleeding. It may be minor but it should be checked out.

Didn’t do much except avoid sleeping during the day and staying out of the 90F heat.

And also posted this message to fast, so I have to end my edit now.

Well, try again…

Red, Mastiffs are sweeties. Big, clumsy, slobbering sweeties, I grant you, but great dogs.

Spidey, we going to get to see this “once in 5 years” photo sometime?

Bumba, good luck on the house hunting.

Nut, glad the road trip went well and Dad is doing Ok.

Anyone else I’m missing, assorted hugs, tears, and grins as appropriate.

Tomorrow is another day…

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and fair (as opposed to unjust?) with a predicted high of 96 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. I shall betake myself to the sto’ in order to lay in provisions and figure out what sup shall be whilst there. Other than that I shall remain in da cave where 'tis cool. Plus whatever else I might find to get into.

Nuts glad the trip went well.

Bumba good luck with the house hunt and better thee than me.

MetalMouse tomorrow is another day? Have you been possessed by Scarlett O’Hara? :stuck_out_tongue:

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, alas, alack, and bother, I must purtify and don appropriate goin to the Pubic Sto’ attire. Le sigh.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

I managed to drag myself to the office, tho I’d rather be sleeping a bit more. Stupid weird dream woke me around 4 and I couldn’t fall back to sleep. But I imagine I’ll survive.

The guys installing the a/c in the shop said it’s a 3-day job, so they’ll be back today… and tomorrow. Next project, after we pull the wiring to the office, will be an attic fan, then attic insulation. And I need to remind **FCD **to talk to the guy who’s supposed to be bringing the topsoil. He’s already been paid but nothing is happening. We’re not worried about his honesty - just his schedule.

On the plus side, this is a 2-day work week for me, so tomorrow’s my Firday!

Happy Wednesday!

Parallel evolution. Same as each electronics manufacturers would come up with their own cables, and there’s still crap such as Dell computers refusing to charge unless they recognize the charger as being a Dell, and people would be saying “charger for Nokia? Anybody got a charger for Nokia?” (back when Nokia was popular, that is) until a bunch of people with enough collective power to do so said “every phone must use USB cables for chargers, period,” only without that fed-up bit at the end.

There have been occasional moves toward homologation (some wider, some more local), but once you have that much infrastructure and machinery and so forth set up one way, it takes either a strong political will or a lot of people who see an advantage in the new model. The main reason the US still has its own blueprint format, and its own units (which are defined based on the units everybody else uses) and its own paper sizes is that so far they’ve been able to afford it: if there is ever a strong enough need, Europe will get vehicle papers every European-language-reading person can understand and Americans will start giving their height in IS units.

What does it mean when you dream your ex husband is a serial killer???

So I may be off today. And the critters are on The List, since Gordie went off on The Invisible Mole People at 0600, and Alex Catt serenaded me with a rendition of “My Food Bowl Is Only 98% Full and I Must Starve.”.:dubious:

“My ex had the body of an 18 year old. He kept it in a trunk in the closet”

Morning all. Slept (or at least stayed in bed) until 9:15am. Retirement is good.

Must now make myself presentable and do a couple chorss outside the house, then return to the AC for another 90F+ day.
