I've Got Your Goat, A College Flashback MMP

Oy, what a day! My new boss is out of commission. She did a FOOSH (fall on outstretched hands) in the parking lot where she lives this morning. She managed to break the actual ball that goes into the socket of her shoulder and another bone further down in her arm.

My co-worker and my big boss spent the day running her around the various parts of the hospital while I manned the office. I did stop by her room on the way home, so I left work late.

My new supervisor was telling my co-worker that she felt like a wuss. Uh…no…I don’t think so. After falling, she managed to right herself. She thought her shoulder was simply dislocated, so she pushed the arm back up into her socket. She managed to drive herself from her home to the ER (the hospital that I work at). That is no wuss! She had to have someone put her car in gear, but she drove herself. Then, at the gate, she couldn’t get to her badge, so the guards had her pull over and they fished her badge out of her purse. She then had to have them put the car in reverse and then drive, so she could finish driving herself to the ER. Wuss indeed. I’m not sure I would have been that strong.

Anyway, she has no family out here yet, as she only just moved here from out of state. She’s having surgery on Thursday, and my big boss talked with the command and the surgical dept and managed to get her admitted. It’s what’s best for the patient. She’s alone, the surgery is day after tomorrow, and she can be properly taken care.

I felt terrible for her. When I was visiting her, she’d tense up, wince and sort of yelp in pain. The drugs they put her weren’t working and she had to wait at least another hour to try something different.

She has my number in case she needs something. I punched it into her cell phone for her.

I’m going to relax for a bit, I guess.

rigs, your brother (BiL?) is a twat. You are not insane.

I am continuing the fish theme with catfish gumbo style Bachelor Food tonight.

Taters, did new boss use the phrase “It’s only a flesh wound”?

rigs, you are neither fat now dowdy. [Yakko Warner]Heeellllooooooo, Nurse![/YW]

lieu, it’s just not college with out a goat.

Poop. Shoulda bought some US cash during my lunch break today as I’d originally planned… looks like I’ll be paying $0.02 more on the dollar tomorrow. :frowning:

Too tired to say much… busy day, then volunteer meeting, then watched a couple of shows online and now I should really fall asleep. I’m semi-sleepy…

Hugs…

Morning, mumpers! It’s half-past week already…where did the time go? I was very busy yesterday trying to get my project groups matched up with supervisors so they can all get their forms signed off by 5pm on Friday for the deadline. Tough going when the students can’t decide what to do for their projects and the tutors aren’t keen on any of the titles so don’t want to supervise them. It’s all good fun, right?

The good news is that ‘im indoors is off to Scotland on Saturday for a few days to visit his family, so I will have a few days at home on my own with the moglings. Very nice too, I might actually get a few nights of undisturbed sleep. It’s not good because I’m a very light sleeper and he is a night-owl so he’s often up until about 4am playing World of Soddin’ Warcrack so of course he wakes me up when he gets into bed, and the upstairs lights are on half the night so that doesn’t help because I prefer a very dark room to sleep in.

Anyway, I am looking forward to him being away. That’s not a bad thing, right? And even better news is that on Saturday I’m going shopping with a friend for new winter boots. She agrees that I’ve had my current work boots for far too long and it’s time to shop for new ones. Yay!

Morning all. I’m up, caffeinated, and off to work. Then it’s bowling night, and going to a bar to watch the Canes play.

BooFae, absence makes the heart grow fonder?

Doggio, at the moment I’m tending towards “out of sight, out of mind”!

Good morning!

I’m hungry. What else is new? I’m currently trying to decide between a Special K protein shake, Count Chocula, or dinner rolls.

Blurfitty blurf blurf.

I just had a Denny’s Grand Slam. FTR, Denny’s sucks.

Y’all know where I am, so I won’t repeat my whine. Well, for the next hour or so…

Oh, dear god, that arm sounds painful, Taters! I can’t believe she drove herself to the hospital with that injury. And now let’s all hope that the insurance company will pay for her overnight stay.

I am all purty in my new work clothes. Gray slacks, white and eggplant striped Oxford shirt and black blazer. I feel MUCH less dowdy today, thankyouverymuch.
Thanks for the compliment,** doggio**, but I know I have to lose some weight. I’ve been lazy.
BooFae–I love being home alone! And I sleep better as well. When I was younger, I was worried about intruders or axe murderers at night. Now, I say let 'em come in; just don’t wake me up.

I got a letter of appreciation today. From the super hot project that I worked on - weekends, nights, lots of stress. rah. But if I decorate our office door for Halloween and it wins, I get time off. How’s that for a screwed up system??

/QUOTE]

Two birds - one stone. Take 1 letter of appreciation - tack to plain door. Add post-it note that says - “OK, but we need you to do it AGAIN - signed The Management”

Scary door = time off!

Morning all! Naturally, I’m at work and have been since 7 am (or thereabouts :)).

Woo hoo that it’s hump day and only two more days after today until the weekend. Yay!

Taters, sending healing vibes to your new boss - what a start to her new job. Hope she comes through everything okay.

There is definitely some sort of “bug” going around here at work. I’ve got two hand sanitizers on my desk now!

Well, that’s all I got for now. Take care everyone, and use that sanitizer if you can’t wash your hands enough!

hmphrrrrblrff!

This cold is grating on my last nerve. It’s not terrible during the day, when I’m active and my body’s all awake and stuff. But at night, when I lie down, the remainder of the cold (which is mostly in my chest at this point) is still irritating my lungs, so no matter which side I sleep on, any pressure on my lungs irritates them and makes me feel like I have to cough, so I can’t get comfortable. Strangely it’s not so bad lying on my back, but I can’t sleep on my back. I snore like a chainsaw if I do, and I just don’t find it comfortable.

So, I just didn’t get much sleep last night. Four hours or so, tops. Gotta try and get to bed earlier tonight and plan ahead for spending two or three hours just getting to sleep. I may see a doctor this weekend and get some antibiotics if this doesn’t clear up. Meanwhile I’ll just have to get my energy from a can.

On a good note though it’s sunny and mild out, even though it’s supposed to rain today, so I can take some comfort in that at least, and it’s hump day. Gotta take the good bits where I can get 'em.

@VBob - I hate Denny’s, at least for anything other than breakfasts. When they opened one up near me the wife and I decided to try it, since we’d never been before. I bought one of their dinner meals. When it arrived at my table looking for all the world like they just dumped the contents of a Swanson Hungry Man frozen turkey dinner on a plate, I sent it back and got pancakes instead. At least pancakes are hard to screw up. (I did try to eat the turkey, but it even tasted like a Hungry Man, and I didn’t go out to eat just to be served a freakin’ TV dinner.)

I’d still rather eat their dinners than learn SQL though.

But, back to work with me.

The room where we have today’s French class wakes my allergies big time. Capital congestion, anybody?

Hmmm, but why salad? Why not Ramen Noodle days or Sammich days???

mork, have you tried an over-the-counter cough suppressant? I’ve used Vicks with very good results. Can you get that in Canada?

taters, that woman should get a purple heart! Wuss indeed.

boofae, spending my life with a back-sleepin snorehead, I can attest to the joyful anticipation of a couple of nights of blessed sleep.

Happy Humpday!!!

Back to work.

Tupug

Blurf.

I’m in the 'burbs again today. I bribed The Angry Russian with one of my apple cupcakes and a chunk of homemade bacon so’s I could hitch a ride with her… she refuses to accept any gas money from me, which I why I resort to using food instead.

Also, I finally cracked 1000 pageviews on my blog yesterday… and by that, I mean 1000 in a day, not 1000 ever. struts

Am I the only one who reads about tater’s boss and thinks that she should have called for an ambulance, because by doing what she did she put herself and others at a lot of risk? Maybe I’m just being a grumpy grinch.

I’ve been taking NyQuil for the overall symptoms, and Buckley’s for immediate cough relief. The NyQuil works for everything but the cough, and Buckley’s works wonders for short-term cough relief (not to mention ridding me of nostril hairs and chemically dissolving my socks) but it only gets rid of that throat tickle for a while, not the deep-down sensitivity of the lungs the cold has brought on.

Happy hump day!

From wiki:

The phrase was coined in Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra in 1606. In the speech at the end of Act One in which Cleopatra is regretting her youthful dalliances with Julius Caesar she says:

“…My salad days, / When I was green in judgment, cold in blood…”
I’m making progress on my project. I’m supposed to redesign this complicated tool and make it have less parts - to reduce costs. We all have to one of these this year. Arggh… The good part is I can kinda fake it, and not work out all the details. (Just come up with a concept.)

We might not have to do inventory! It’s looking like our group didn’t get their assignments, maybe TPTB forgot about us. (We used to be at a different location, and we’re like the unloved stepchildren.) My boss says he’s not going to ask about it. Yay! Cross your fingers!

All this time, I thought salad days was a reference to time spent on yet another diet.
