I think RealityChuck is referring to the fact that herpes became much more widespread in the general population during the 1970s.
This calculator is fucking stupid. Not only can it not calculate the number in my case, it’s quite clearly ridiculous. If I claim to be a 16 year old who has had one sexual partner, another 16 year old, I apparently have had 16 indirect partners!
Even with the state the UK is in now, where I would leave in heart beat were it not for business interests, I simply don’t believe the typical 16 year old has slept with 16 other people.
I think you’ve missed the point. The typical 16 year old has slept with one or two other people, who have slept with one or two other people, who have slept with one or two other people…
It’s not saying that your one 16-year-old partner has slept with 15 other people directly.

Doesn’t surprise me, exactly – I haven’t had many sex partners, but a couple of them were former rockers/musicians, and I know they got around (“more than ten, less than twenty” was my ex’s response when I cheekily asked how many people he’d been with).
It can’t calculate it for me, either. 
(and even if it could, I’d just have to pick an “average age”, as there’s no way I’d know all of them.
I’ve had more than 154,000…this despite the fact that I’ve only had sex with two women and both were virgins.
