Jan 6 NYC Dopefest: Official Countdown(Linked! Don't Delete!)

Um, if they card everyone, does that mean that I won’t be able to bring Nicky?

I’m bringing the laptop & cam regardless of whether or not we get a phone connection at the restaurant (is a giggle a yes or a no? ANd was that at Chumleys?) I’ll just save everything to the hard drive and set up a site with all the pictures in a slideshow. It will be like seeing it all live over and over on demand! But it would be cool to have it live also.

Who is coming to the zoo after brunch on Sunday?

Opal, I can’t imagine there being a problem at Chumleys with you bringing the little tyke, but once he enters The Village Idiot, that boy’s gonna become a man!

…did you try calling Chumleys to see if a phone line was available? I wouldn’t bother trying at The Village Idiot.

Opal, I’m a maybe for the zoo. You don’t need to know beforehand, do you?

Opal, you are such a geek!

Not taking notes. Will be too busy talking.

Three things

1- I’m in NJ and it is Snowing now for those of you already in NYC what is the weather like?

2- Unless the snow is really severe the snow is not affecting my attendance

3- If 9600 baud isn’t too slow and I make it to The village idiot you can use my cell phone on your laptop.

I’ll be at Chumley’s, and at the Sunday brunch. I can’t make the museum tour.

It’s snowing like mad in NYC. I heard we’re supposed to get seven inches. Can’t see out the windows on the 64th floor of the World Trade Center. (It’s kinda cool, actually).

So what’s the deal with Chumley’s anyway? 50 people is a big crowd! Are they going to put us in the basement or something?

Also, one other random bit of advice. If you come into the city at midtown (Penn or Grand Central for trains), take the subway up to Billdo’s, take the subway down to Chumley’s, then take the subway back up to midtown, that’s 3 rides, which is $4.50. So, it makes sense to buy a one day unlimited rides MetroCard for $4.00. They sell them at both of the train stations at the ticket machines (which always have shorter lines than the booth anyways). You don’t have to think about whether you want to take the subway or not, and the cards make nice bookmarks.

Manny, I’m in NJ, and I’ll be there rain or shine.

Falc as far as I know, those directions I gave you are still good. If worse comes to worse, and you end up at the Holland Tunnel, the Hoboken NJ Transit station is just a few blocks to the northeast. More to come. . .

It’s finally stopped snowing here in Baltimore. I’ll be bombarding the bus station with inquiries; hopefully my bus will actually leave the station tomorrow morning.

Oh yeah, I have the flu. I’ve been home sick for the past three days. I plan on ODing on Dayquil, so don’t be all pissed if I’m snoring with my eyes open :stuck_out_tongue:

Jeez, Saxie! I don’t give a hoot whether you wear the damn thing or not! But one will be duly provided. Do with it what you will.

I’ll be joining the museum tour on Saturday, as well as dropping in on Chumley’s. I’ll have to dress down; I’m afraid my tuxedo is at the cleaner’s, and my house account at Brooks Brothers is overdrawn.

The Village Idiot
355 West 14th Street (corner of Ninth Avenue), New York, New York 10014

Note on Village Idiot: Word is that this bar cards, though in New York you never know how serious they are (or aren’t). As some of our dopers are chronologically challenged (and I would never suggest that anyone use any fraud or artifice to avoid New York alcohol control laws), I would recommend that dopers-of-age bring alternate forms of identification in case their primary ID’s get misplaced and accidentally picked up by a similar-looking junior doper. Also, I would urge that our wise-though-not-aged dopers bring any, um, identification resources that they may have.

Sunday, January 7, 2001. 11:00 a.m.
Open House/Bagel Brunch at Billdo’s.
11 to 2ish, West 72nd Street. Get details at the Dopefest or e-mail Billdo.

Sunday, January 7, 2001. 12:30 p.m.
Great OpalCat Zoo Adventure in the Central Park Zoo.
Meeting at Billdo’s brunch for walk across park. (See note above about Central Park.)

See you all tomorrow!

Don’t worry. NYC is actually one of the most tourist friendly cities in America. I saw a study done where a person pretended to be a ‘lost tourist’ by standing in a busy public area in several big cities in America and people came to the tourists aid in NYC faster than anywhere else. In fact if they weren’t in Time Square people actually stopped and talked to the person for a while giving tips and suggestions them. The easiest conversation to start in NYC is “Which subway should I take…” If you are still worried e:mail me and I give you me cell number.

Hamadryad:

Don’t worry! We are completely at your disposal for information gleaning

Opal: I’d love to go to the zoo! Maeglin won’t be able to make it, I don’t think, but count me in!

Oooooh 7 inches, they said? True, it is really cool, you can’t see out the windows. Should make for a really interesting time tomorrow night after a couple of drinks…

See everyone there!

Just FYI, here’s the weather forecast from Accuweather & weather.com

Tonight: Snow early…Tapering off to flurries during the evening. Total snow accumulation 1 to 2 inches. Low in the upper 20s. South wind 10 to 15 mph early… Becoming light.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy with a chance of snow flurries until mid-morning…Then partly sunny. High in the upper 30s. Northwest wind increasing to 15 to 20 mph.

Tonight: Snow flurries in the evening, plenty of clouds. Low 29.

Saturday: Breezy and cold; considerable cloudiness early in the day, then becoming mostly sunny. High 39. Low 26.

I should be able to make it to the zoo. I don’t have that meeting until 3 PM, Pucette.

Not it for the notes!

However, I will volunteer to harrass the mayor, as per Lux Fiat’s request.

I may have to cancel but I hope not. I was plannimng on driving to Jersey City than taking the Path in but now I may not be able to do that because of my car. See http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=54067 On another not any Dopers passing through the Toms River area willing to give me a lift in with them would ensure my attendance if my car does need work and I am unable to borrow a car.

::shrieking like a little girl::

Ohmigod!! OHMIGOD!! Like 24 hours guys!! Wooohooooo!
