Why’ncha just take NJ Transit?
Yeah, but what the study didn’t say was that we were all tripping over each other to give FAULTY information.
Every out-of-towner we cause to end up in the South Bronx when he’s looking for Coney Island, we get to carve another notch in our bagel-slicers.
Hey everyone,
Falcon and I’ll be meeting in the Hoboken station at about 3:PM tomorrow. I’ll be wearing my NJ Devils jersey and she should be closeby. If you want to, just come on up and we can band together for the trip into NYC.
Tripler
Just ask us if we’re going to Chumley’s!
Oh yeah, definitely NOT in for the notes. And who’s lending me their ID?
Okay, I have several forms of ID, but I’m not so sure the young women will really go for them… Theyr’e of me…
So no dice.
I’m not drinking, so if anyone who is but really shouldn’t be and happens to steal a sip or two of a drink they like but I ordered per chance I might not really get too angry with them…
I didn’t realize so many underage Dopers were attending this thing. A 6-year old with his parents is fine, of course, because it’s obvious.
But for everyone else, let me please explain Rule Number One of NYC dive bars:
Do Not Try To Pass A Fake ID To A Hell’s Angel.
Actually, I think it’s another MC that is most closely affiliated with the Idiot, but you can see where I’m going here. A Dopefest that ends in the hospital would be a bad thing, IMO.
Let me see what I can do.
Ergh. I seem to have misplaced my drivers license :o so I may not be able to go to the Village Idiot either. Unless they accept my faculty IDs.

Yes, but while we're being friendly, putting an arm around their shoulder and directing them, our accomplice is pickpocketing their asses...
Cool! The Village Idiot is staffed by bikers?
That means all the female Dopers are assured of sex. And most of the males, too!
Well NJ Transit doesn’t come by where I am but I’m going to take my car to the dealership at 8 and have them look at it. Worse comes to worse I’ll enlist a friend to drive me to the train station
Billdo or manny, any idea when the transition from Chumley’s to the Village Idiot will be taking place? The Bottom Line show should let out around 9 or so. Think you’ll still be ordering apps for 50 at Chumley’s, or will y’all be smuggling underage Dopers into the Idiot under your bulky winter-wear?
See everyone tomorrow night.
I just spoke with Chumleys. They said that they would need the tables after we are through eating, but that it shouldn’t be a problem just moving into the bar area at that point and drinking all night, if need be (we’ll have to fight over bar stools, though). Probably at 11 or so tables will begin to open up so that we’ll be able to sit down again.
I would propose that we avail ourselves of the warmth of Chumleys for as long as possible before we change venues. It’ll probably be crowded, but we’ll all already be inside if they set up a bouncer at the door carding.
If we have a problem in the Village, there are a bunch of little hole-in-the-wall bars up in my neighborhood (the Upper West Side) that would probably be able to handle a large group descending on them and not be too picky about carding.
If we leave Chumleys, we’ll try to leave word with the hostess as to where the Cecil Adams group went.

unfortunately NJT um…SUCKS!!! don’t get me wrong, for commuters it’s ok, but not for party trips to the city from Ocean County. From Toms River its about 15-30 minutes to get to a train station that has extremely limited service on the week-ends or night-time, worse when it’s both. service is marginally better if you can drive up to Long Branch (45 min) a bit better if you can to Metro Park (1 hour). At this point wouldn’t ya just drive all the way to Hoboken? At least where I now live (No. Brunswick) it’s only a few minutes to the train station (about on par with LB) and about 20 from Metro Park.
Don’t ask me about Buses, the reason I take trains is cause of shitty road conditions (volume and snow removal) so why would I let someone else drive. And yes I am a wee bit of a control freak during my morning commute.
He’s got a very lovely Hobbit hole.
Swiddles and I had a very… eventful… ride down. To say the least. Expect an epic thread in the near future.
The trip took about 8 hours, due to a blizzard. And other things. But all is well and safe and suchlike.
Oooh, I’m excited.

glad y’all made it ok. I was out and about this afternoon running errands and I was reminded how much my car ('88 Firebird Formula w/ the 305) sucks in this weather.
I probably won’t be making the meet tomorrow. Some things came up at the very last minute and I don’t think I’m going to be able to swing it due to timing.
Hope you all have fun, and raise at least one for me.
Sorry, everyone.
I’m not going, I’m so sorry! I’ve been calling the bus station begging them for info, apparently my bus stopped at DC but is not leaving for a while. So I can drive to the Travel Plaza and hope it shows up, but that would also involve driving in several inches of unplowed snow. And they said they’re not even sure if the bus is running or not.
To say I am disappointed would be an understatement. I am so sorry, ya’ll, truly.
I got through to the bus station, now they are saying it’s a go, and I wouldn’t be a true doper unless I went for it, right? Hopefully my car doesn’t wig out in 95S in all this snow.
See ya there!!
We’re about to head out to the train. We’ve got a few stops on the way but we should be there well ahead of schedule!
Btw, I shaved my head to the skin last night (except for the bangs) and I’m bringing my body-art markers so people can draw on my head!!
All WHAT snow? We got all of an inch-and-a-half in NYC yesterday, and it’s melting fast. Supposed to be close to forty degrees today, which is balmy considering the 3-week cold snap we’ve suffered.
Billdo: Wait…you’re suggesting we go FROM the Village TO the Upper West Side on a Saturday night? Congratulations…I don’t think anyone has actually put that combination of words together before.
