When I first heard the story I wondered how much was him and how much was the head of his foundation. This seems to be more than just looking at pictures the other guy took, though. He is charged with actively seeking out underaged girls for sex.
Teen-aged girls so far. Makes him more of a rapist than a pedophile. However he specifically is looking for under-aged prostitutes, he didn’t pick up one that just happened to be too young, so that fine line of distinction wouldn’t matter to me.
True. He also has to pay $100,000 to each of 14 victims. I did not hear what each one was a victim of.
I am not up on my federal law so I don’t know the wording of the statutes he is charged with. In New York the Age of Consent is 17. Some reports say he was accused of some counts where the girl was 17. Some mention girls or the same girl at 16 which would be legal in his home state and mine for that matter. Guessing I think he is officially charged because he crossed state lines in order to engage in the sex trade with minors. Which I believe would fall under the Mann Act (yes I heard Sheriff Buford T. Justice in my head when I typed that). So that’s why it was necessary for him to be in federal court. Someone more familiar with federal statutes can confirm if he is being charged under the Mann Act.
Hebephile, if you’re into the whole splitting hairs thing. The underage sex trafficking thing is probably going to result in serious, serious PMITA* jail time.

I don’t care about renting adult porn, hebephile is bad enough, under-aged prostitues are barely a candle on the cake after that, but then he was engaged in sex trafficking with under-aged girls, which may have created the most victims, some who may never be found.

Getting underage, but 14 and up prostitutes? Sleazy and gross.
Collaborating in creating child porn with kids from a children’s charity? Actively, monstrously evil.

Now that our RO spleen has been ritually vented, I want to know more about Subway’s predicament.
What are they going to do for advertising? It’ll take awhile to either find a new spokesperson or to create an ad campaign that doesn’t revolve around a single personality.

Act 2 of the “Tarred and Feathered” episode from This American Life should enable anyone with a shred of compassion to feel pity for the person who tells his story there. Sorry I am having trouble linking directly to that part of the show, but below is a link to entire episode - the feature in question begins at about 28:30. I strongly recommend taking the time to listen (the entire episode is really good, actually). If you can listen to the story told by the kid at the end, and not feel at least a tiny bit of sympathy for what he’s going through, then … well, I don’t know what to say, except that you have a lot more confidence in your ability to judge the entire universe than I do.
This guy’s actions torched his entire life, and those of the people around him.
Geez, being famous isn’t a license to break every law and get away with it. Sometimes it just takes longer (Cosby), but when things like this come out, you’re DONE. No coming back, no career, no family, no money, no career options.
I can’t imagine a little underage tail being worth setting your life ablaze like that.
16 is the age of consent in Indiana, but I think he was having sex with 14-15 year olds also.
Plus some of the CP videos he had supposedly had kids as young as 6 in them.
They could run their “it’s got guacamole in it” commercials if nothing else.

What I keep coming back to is that the guy not only made something so exploitative and vile, he knew that Jared would appreciate it. Surely they have some troubling history.
For a lot of people, especially those who have gotten away with it, that’s exactly what it means. And they encourage, maybe implicitly, their rich and famous friends to do it too. I’m sure they see horrendous behaviour being overlooked and ignored in the safe harbour of fame all the time.
He was charged federally so Indiana laws don’t apply.
They have been using him as a spokesperson but his role in commercials has deminished greatly over the years.
Anyone watching Subway stock? Any chance this will sink them?
Personally, I switched from chain store sandwiches to local shops a while ago, but I’m curious.
