Let me know what you want to bring, I plan to fill in around what other say they will bring.
I will have burgers, hot dogs, Italian (Sweet) Sausages for grilling.
Several types of cheese for the burgers.
Rolls, mustard, ketchup, relish, pickles.
I will supply Diet Soda and Coke and juices and water. Probably some juice boxes for kids.
I will have at least a case of Bass Ale, maybe more. I will have a spare cooler with ice. I will have some extra ice.
Depending on what is posted, we will fill in on salads and deserts, etc. Emily Litella Yeah!
A reminder, if you need directions Email me and if you need a lift from the train station let us know. Middletown is the closest and my wife will again play shuttle if needed. I think last time someone else ended up doing it.
I’ll be in Philadelphia that weekend. Can I come even though I can only give about a 25% probability? I can give a more definitive reply as the date draws closer. What’s the best way to get there from Philly without a car?
You are very welcome to come. Some of the other Dopers know exactly how to ride the trains to my place. I will let one of them answer. There is also a chance someone from near Philly might be coming by car. Let’s see what happens.
I’ve been planning all along to be there, Jim, as you know, but now I can sign up in advance instead of just popping by. I’ll review the dishes that are being planned and see if I can’t bring something that would fit in.
Unfortunately, it now looks like Hal will be the winner in the “attending the highest number of Jim’s Dopefests” contest. A family graduation party has been scheduled for that weekend, 300 miles away.
Would you like to bring any distinctly NY treat perhaps? Whatever you feel is best. Too bad Egg creams don’t travel.

Can any other posters describe the best train route to my place from Philly for Darryl Lict. All I know about trains is how to get to NYC and how to transfer to the Hudson line. I don’t want to give bad advice.
I just found out that I will be in Jersey on that weekend so I will definitely partake in the festivities. Need me to bring anything? If anyone needs a ride from up the road my location says it all so feel free to pm me. See you all there!
Unfortunately, a look at the NJ Transit Map (PDF warning!) will show you that from a public transportation standpoint, Middletown is in the proverbial middle of nowhere.
To get to Philly to Middletown, you’ve got to:
–Take a bus from Philly to the Camden Waterfront
–Take the River Line light rail north from Camden to Trenton
–Take a Northeast Corridor train north from Trenton to Rahway
–Take a North Jersey Coast Line train south from Rahway to Middletown
The shame of it is we live only about 15 minutes from Philly, but we won’t be going directly to the party from home – we’ll be down the shore for the weekend before heading up to Jim’s on Sunday. Sorry Darryl…hope you make it nonetheless!
Wow, I never realized it was that hard to get to Philly. No wonder Monmouth and even Ocean are so NYC oriented. It is so simple to jump on a train and be in the City.
Yup…I’ve often wondered why there isn’t a line connecting Philly to northern Ocean/southern Monmouth. I’m guessing it has something to do with the amount of protected woodland/military base ground that it would have to traverse. That, and the lack of areas for stops in the middle (except for the military bases) probably make it unprofitable, especially in the non-summer months.
