Poor Melissa - going to have to survive on her own talents now …
Maybe she could do something with Jay Paterno.
Fucking shit! The CNN.com headline had only said “Joan Rivers moved from ICU” which I took to mean she’s getting better, so I didn’t bother reading the actual story.
You have to read between the lines a bit. If she was improving, you’d expect somebody to say something. The fact that nobody is implies that they’ve pretty much given up hope.
Evidently they have moved her from ICU to the Morgue. From the flashes I am getting.
I can remember when she was really funny.
I’m watching CNN. They’re reporting she just died. There’s nothing on line about it yet.
AP Radio News also reports that Melissa issued a release stating Joan has died.
Yes, CNN is reporting that Rivers died.
I reported the thread and asked that it be renamed to reflect the news.
RIP Joan.
At least she lived life as she wanted. Still on stage performing right up until this tragic accident. Performing seemed to give her life purpose.
I know she’d be the first to make a joke about this:
So will she be cremated or recycled?
So long, Joan.
RIP
She still was really funny. Her standup continued to kill right up to the end, no pun intended.
Echoing carnivorousplant, lost my mom last month. Was in ICU, when we decided to move to palliative/hospice/comfort care, they removed all the extra monitoring and moved us to a different floor.
I remember her doing a “Chinese” bit on Carol Burnett’s show with a gong hanging between her legs: “Where I find my husband? I look for him in the Yellow Pages!” GONG!
Could never get away with that nowadays. What a pity!
RIP!
Definitely a pioneer in what she did.
The still-natural parts of her will rest in peace.
Damn.
Tell me about it…even the news following Michael Schumacher’s skiing accident was far more encouraging.
R.I.P., you crazy funny lady.
Heck, wasn’t one of her last comedy shows called “Before they slam the lid”?
she made me laugh many times. RIP, Joan Rivers
I’ll never forget a bit Joan did on tragedy and how comedy can help you cope.
After husband committed suicide she noticed Melissa was taking it really hard (she was young? I think?), she and her daughter went to a restaurant to get out and have a treat, and after looking at the menu she turned to Melissa and said “It’s a good thing your father hasn’t seen these prices or he’d kill himself all over again!”
It made Melissa laugh and Joan said that it was the first time her daughter laughed and it made her smile.
It’s been years since I heard that bit and I’ll never forget it
