Probably not an heir but I wouldn’t rule out Evan being a distant cousin to J. Willard the hotel tycoon. I did find a likelier possiblity, a bigwig by the name of Robert H. Marriott in the early days of the radio industry. Robert H. Marriott III is Evan’s father.
How could the theory in Honey’s spoiler box be a secret if it were true? Wouldn’t hundreds if not thousands of people already know the existance of such a person? Wouldn’t at least a few of them reveal the existance of that person to the press?
Mr. T appears, pity all these fools, and kicks them out of his mansion getaway so he can watch some high-class jibba-jabba on Cinescope.
Thank God there will be no more need to speculate after tonight. And in other good news, there’s really no way they could do another Joe Millionaire show in the future.
Lola, I think you underestimate the greed and stupidity of some people.
“Hey, you’re pretty. I’m a TV producer. You want to be on a show where a guy who just inherited a pile of money picks a chick from 20 contestants who visit his palatial French estate?”
“No way, I saw that last show, you can’t fool me!”
“Uhhhh… well, we’re serious this time. And he has $100 million.”
“Okay, I’ll try it! I have no bread baggage!”
Well, now that you mention it, I did read somewhere that the networks were planning on a developing a show where the payola would be ONE BILLION DOLLARS!
I wonder about this twist, because in the preview (ok, knows to me misleading very often…), it says that even Evan doesn’t know about it (the twist)… So it couldn’t be about him…
Well, whatever the twist is, I bet Fox is delighted that the twist airs tonight rather than last week. I’m trapped under 20 inches of snow in Jersey, and fear that by tonight may have nothing better to do than watch Joe Millionaire
haha I hear you ! The snow is now coming here, to Mass. I don’t know if I can even make it home tonight for the show… unless work let me out early…
I can picture Joe Millionaire about to say “and I pick…” and losing power… Arghh…
Are you doing the Dr. Evil finger thing while saying that?
lol - YUP!!!
OK, I am going to make a guess here…the woman already know and have always known that Evan is not worth $50 million. The other possibility is that it is simply that Evan doesn’t know that all the girls will be there tonight to kick his ass.
Joe (or Ethan or wahtever, heck I’ve never seen the show) converts to Mormonism and picks both girls.
But…
Too late!! The camera pans to the hot tub, where the two girls have ditched the loser guy and are busily making out with each other.
Does Joe care? No! He’s unconverted and is busy getting it on with the butler.
Now that would would be a twist no-one was expecting
“Evan doesn’t know that all the girls will be there tonight to kick his ass.”
Maybe, the women that he didn’t pick get to sit around together & talk about him. They showed a little clip of that too & about how he should have told the truth in the first places, etc…
Keep in mind an important thing: The women were not told about Evan inheriting $50 million until after they auditioned for the show and were selected. Evan’s money could not have been why they were interested in being on the show. Perhaps this was done to prevent the contestant pool from being overwhelmed by golddiggers.
OK… here’s my guess…
Evan confesses to the girl he chooses that he is penniless, but he loves her, and hopes she loves him, too.
Evan leaves to go to the room and wait for her decision.
That host woman then tells the girl she has 3 options.
A> Get w/Evan
B> Leave
C> Go on a date with an ACTUAL Millionaire
And she introduces a new guy into the mix who is actually a millionaire (of course, with some form of proof)
Forcing the girl to basically decide if she will go with Evan who she has “fallen in love” with, or truely ditch Evan for a chance at money.
Poor Evan is just following instructions, but I don’t think anybody is in love with anybody here. They might all be glad to go back home and resume their normal lives. I think the only stake the women have in it by now is not being “rejected” in this phony contest and becoming a “loser” in front of America.
In that case, Evan isn’t the heir. J. Willard (the Chairman of Marriott)'s son is J. Willard Merriott III, who is not the father of Evan. I could use my geneology and people-search database to find any possible connections between Evan and the hotel barons, but my boss frowns on such frivolous use of something that cost us money
Ah, sorry, I meant to quote this from Jeff Olsen’s post:
Sorry for the treble post, but I found out through, um, “legal sources” that Evan Marriott is not within two degrees of relation to J. W. Marriott the hotel baron. OK, back to real work now.
