The name “Silent Bob” comes from a character in the films of director Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma). In general, the character does not speak. His sidekick is Jay. Jay speaks (“at great length, whether you want him to or not”) enough for the two of them. That’s why “Jay” was used to convey the messages.
You may not be aware of it, but yojimbo attacked me on another thread, for voicing a valid complaint. And he said to come he, so I came. End of puzzle.
The point of the thread is that, besides insulting me, yojimbo insists “putz” is the epitome of wit, and for him it seems to be.
I take the opposite view, namely that people who use the “putz” smiley are actually being putzes when the do so.
Not ax murderers, not blasphemers, not wife beaters, but simple putzes.
That is a minor enough description that those people should be able to deal with it.
That they can’t just shows they invest too much meaning into the word, rather than meaning that I do.
You clearly may close it any time; you certainly don’t need my concurrence.
I said what I came to say in the OP.
Since there is seldom any actual debate in the Pit (unlike the other forums), it should come as no surprise that no minds were changed in any direction. Leaving it open or closing it won’t change that.
That’s why I’ve never come to the pit before, and why those who want to bait me further will be disappointed.

In a thread about a poster who only uses smiles to communicate where you were clearly out of order and complained about the use of the putz smile I used the smile to make a point . That point being that you were a putz for doing what you did in that thread .
I very rarely have used the putz smile . Please search all my posts you won’t find a lot of them .
If I insulted you , good . You deserved to be insulted . You deserved a lot worse than a winky .

One of the reasons we don’t close most of these types of threads is that we generally prefer to sit back and let the fine citizens of the SDMB rip these wingnuts apart. You are all quite adept at fighting back barbarian hordes. It is very satisfying to observe and it makes our jobs easier.
I try to save thread locking for only the most idiotic threads (Like the wonderful “Alphonse” threads and the “Parrot” family of yahoos) There were a few red flags raised in this thread that made me more paranoid than usual. I had a few reasons to suspect that the thread might turn into something worse.
Sorry to get y’all so excited though. There really is nothing to spill. What I can tell you is that we do an amazing amount of research on our naughtier posters and we remain ever vigilant against those who would attempt to pee-pee on our fine message board. Of the thousands of people who are registered here, we know who we need to keep an eye on.
I suspect that a good half-dozen of the low-post-count idiots who made their appearance early on in this thread are the same knuckle-dragging mouth-breather.
And, I’d like to add, that you can crack yourself up as I have if you picture your favorite Hollywood tough guy (Schwartzenegger, Stallone, John Wayne, etc.) saying the following quote from yojimbo with a scowl on his face:
Easy Tokyo, I’m hurt. No, I mean it. Here you get on yojimbo for calling you and yours a putz, and completely ignore me for the same offense. Here I sit, waiting for a witty retort or intriguing flame directed my way, and all I get is…nothing. Zip. All that build-up directed at yojimbo and not even a dribble of contempt aimed my way.
