I’m so sorry to hear this. My very best wishes are extended to JC and his loved ones.
Yeah, that’s what made this a major surprise to me. Damn. He has been an institution here.
Dammit. How very sad
Best wishes to JC and family.
This really sucks. I remember going to his parties when he lived in VA. That’s how I met most of the people I knew from the boards, Opalcat and I were friends for a number of years before she moved out of the area.
Oh no.
I am beyond devastated. Nate is one of the kindest people I know. He and my daughter like a lot of the same 80s punk bands and he’d send her vintage pins. I had no idea he was sick again and I’m absolutely crushed.
All the best, JC, all the best.
Before you start celebrating, keep in mind that Al Capone killed Scalise and Anselmi with a baseball bat, and he turned out to be bigger and badder than either of them.
Just sayin’ … …
I hope he recovers and is coping as well as could be expected. I hope he is comfortable, his care is excellent, and his family is supportive. His friends at the Dope care deeply about his well-being. He is an excellent moderator. I suspect this is because he is an excellent person.
I wasn’t lucky enough to ever meet him, but am truly saddened by this news all the same.
JC was always a solid participant in the baseball threads I’ve been active in, or at least passively reading all these years. I finally got a copy of OOTP in the hopes of joining one of his leagues once a spot opened up. He’s also in the same industry I am, and he provides the soundest, most even-keeled advice/commentary on the subject on the board. He’s going to be really, truly missed. I’m really fucking sick of 2020.
All of my best wishes to any family or friends of his that may be reading this.
From what I saw in another post on Facebook, his doctors not only don’t expect him to recover, they don’t expect him to live more than a week. It’s devastating news.
On the other hand, doctors said the same thing about my dad four times, and three times he was moved out of hospice.
I don’t even know what to hope. I like Nate and have enjoyed our friendship on FB, so I hope the doctors are not only wrong, they’re HELL wrong.
I just saw the announcement on FaceBook, too. Is anyone going to the gathering? It’s way out of my area.
I never interacted with him, but I always admired him and his posts. Sad news. All the best to him and his family.
I had the pleasure of speaking with him on the phone not too long ago. He mentioned dealing with a health issue. Nate is a genuinely good person. I’m so sorry to hear this latest terrible development.
One more reason 2020 blows.
Well, yet more terrible news to wake up to. Even worse for his family and close friends, to be sure. Hospice never presents a rosy outlook in my experience, but I hope for the best for Nate and his family as they go through this,
I’m so sorry. Safe journies, JC.
Oh goddammit.
Also had news today that a (non-Board) friend who already had myriad health issues has been hospitalized this morning for “a blood clot in the brain” (not sure whether that’s literally a stroke or something else).
C’mon 2020 - throw us a bone. Give us some happy news for once.
