July SoCal Doperfest - be there or be rectilinear

The 22nd or 23rd and the museum Callendars work for me, and I can get there without mooching a ride with anyone! (Always a consideration, that.)

That works too! It’s been a while since I’ve been up to SB. Isn’t there a hamburger place up there that has a 50’s theme? As I recall, the food was pretty good.

I’ll be back in town from Ohio that weekend, and it sounds great. I love that area. Tar! Whoo hoo!

Hey, any Dopers interested in meeting early, maybe doing some museum-hopping together? Bri and I have memberships at all the area museums and will probably spend the day at LACMA and/or La Brea before going to Callendar’s.

Ventura county? Yay! I lived there for over 10 years, taught in the Oxnard area…I love Santa Barbara, Camarillo…I’d be up for a meeting in that area!

I like Ruffian’s idea (instead of my suggestion), people that want to meet early go to the museum, and then in the evening being at Mary Callender’s for dinner/drinks/partying.

Would Saturday 22 July or Sunday 23 July be better? I personally prefer Sunday, but others may prefer Saturday because it’s easier to stay up late on a Saturday.

I would propose that if we get a quorum of 10 people from SDMB and F[sup]3[/sup] that would be enough to warrant a gathering (10 people would, counting the usual attrition due to real life intruding, probably give us at least 6 people being present for the gathering.)

Here’s my suggestion:

13:00 - 13:30 (1:00 PM - 1:30 PM) - museum goers meet in the plaza in front of the ticket office at LACMA.

Museum visiting from 13:30 until museum closing time.

Meet at Mary Callender’s on Wilshire at 17:30 (5:30 PM). Dinner and chatting until the first fight starts, we get ejected, and we form a mob to roam and pillage in downtown Los Angeles.

RSVP - Saturday 22 July 2000
or
RSVP - Sunday 23 July 2000
or
RSVP - Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 July 2000 are both convenient

What say the Teeming Millions?

Arnold:
I can RSVP for either Saturday or Sunday. Saturday would be more convienient for me, though.
I will leave it up to you and phouka to choose the date.
Lord Vega: sounds like a plan. The place is called Be Bop Burgers, I have never been there, but passed by many times. Let me know when you want to come up, I will be happy to meet up with you. Send me an email, my address is listed in my profile.

Either date works for me, though if I had my druthers, it would be Saturday so I could sleep in Sunday before heading back.

Count me in!

Pssssst…

Depending on how much I get done on my house, & how the flights look, I might try to make this flying standby. If it’s on a Saturday.

I posted something over on F3’s “ICU” board, but as of this morning there were no responses. It was “Shindig IV - in 4D” or something like that. Right now F3 is down, so I can’t get the exact thread name. :frowning:

http://fff.fathom.org/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000127.html is the link to the thread in the SDMB Haven over in 3FMB where most of the discussion has been about this get together.

Come one, come all!

Just let me know when a date’s settled on; I should be able to do either the 22nd or 23rd.

I haven’t been to the Tar Pits or LACMA in a long time.

Oh, and if we’re doing a Ventura County get together, lemme know about that, too. (I’m in T.O.)

i should be able to swing the 22nd.
i will know more as the time comes…

:bump:

It seems like most people would prefer to do the gathering on the Saturday. Here is the proposal so far:

Date: Saturday 22 July

Museum goers:
Time: 13:00 - 13:30 (1:00 PM - 1:30 PM) - meet in the plaza in front of the ticket office at LACMA.
Museum visiting from 13:30 until museum closing time.

Drinkers and eaters: meet at Marie Callender’s on Wilshire at 17:30 (5:30 PM).

So far, from SDMB and F3MB, we seem to have the following RSVPs:
Ruffian, phouka, Johnny L.A., pricciar, Catrandom, Ursa Major, Highlander, dogsbody, chief, Melin, Arnold Winkelried.

With (as far as I can tell) maybes from Niggle, Lord Vega, zyada.

Please confirm your attendance (or lack of), and for those of you who want to join us but haven’t spoken up yet, please post in this thread!

Well, I have to bow out. I have been instructed by my sister that I will accompany her and her children (my favorite niece and my nephew) to a Renniscance(sp) faire that Saturday. My sister being a single mom, she says lets go, and I say yes ma’am.

It looks like I’m going to have to back out too. I just got hit with a very tight deadline at work and the amount of work I have to have done around that time is rather daunting. It doesn’t help that I would have to take a week off if I was going to do this. =(

Hopefully I can make the next one!

I will be a maybe until that Saturday, since I will be flying standby. It all depends on whether I can get a seat or not on a plane. (I’ll try for John Wayne which is always a much better proposition)

I would love to go, but I must regretfully decline. I must work that afternoon (if only y’all were gonna be in Pasadena…).

I hope everyone has fun! Take pictures!

HEY! Can I come?! I’m going to be in LA from the 19th through the 29th.
I’m a Seattle doper, but the posters in my region seem somewhat anti-social. Is this an exclusive affair, or will you extend the invitation to any SDMB’er who’s in the area at the time?

Mmmmmmaybe. We may have company that weekend. I’ll be there in spirit, though!

Rilchiam, we need you there to review for us Harry Potter’s latest adventures!

Niggle, Lord Vega, JavaMaven1, we’ll have to catch you next time.

zyada, hope you can find a standby seat (or else you can always buy a pilot uniform, impersonate a crew member and fly the plane yourself!)

Kiva, of course you are welcome. This will actually be good practice for you to learn the habits and customs of Southern Californians, since you know that we’ll probably end up in Seattle anyway at some point. (Isn’t that where all Californians go to retire?)
