Good morning everyone. I woke up at 6:45, came downstairs, and snuggled with the dog and promptly fell asleep until 7:45. I’m up now though, and caffienating.
We moved our daughter’s boyfriend to his new condo yesterday. We got all the big stuff and most of the little stuff. I even started cleaning the old place by washing out and washing down the kitchen cupboards. It took a bit of time just to get that little bit done. The kitchen in the old place is tiny, and I don’t think the exhaust fan works all that great.
At any rate, I got most of the kitchen squared away for him, and vacuumed his bedroom.
He and my daughter didn’t have all that much left to do. My daughter was scrubbing his bathroom.
His new place is nice and has been recently remodeled. Granite kitchen counter tops, nice cupboards, new flooring and carpeting throughout the place, and other things.
He’s supposed to turn the keys in for his old place today. I hope they get everything done.
Mr. Taters and I are supposed to go to the horseraces today. It’s kind of wet outside and I think it’s pretty much supposed to rain. I don’t really want to go, I just want a lazy Sunday, but that’s not happening.
Who wants to come over and do some dishes/laundry/tidying up?
Anyone?
Anyone?
Bueller?
sigh Guess I’ll have to do it myself. Ugh.
First I’m gonna play fetch with the cat for a while. It involves throwing the ball, watching her chase it under a piece of furniture, and then whining until I fetch it for her… rinse and repeat until she’s bored.
Break time!! We’ve been cleaning and organizing the garage. What a dusty chore that has been! Sawdust and sanding dust everywhere!! But we’ve gotten a lot cleaned up, a lot cleared out, and even stuff thrown away. We’re taking a beverage breather, then back to work again.
It’s a beautiful day again, but no wind to speak of, so we wouldn’t have gone sailing anyway. I figure a couple more hours, and we’ll be done out there, then I can assume the knit position again. I’m trying to finish the last helmet liner for MamaTigs - I only need a couple more hours and it will be done. Then I have to find a box and her address so I can send them all off. Then I can finish the monster afghan for the kids.
We’re a three-dog household this weekend - daughter is puppeh sitting for a coworker of mine. Tigger is a Yorkie boy who does not like the kittehs - and the feeling is mutual. But there has been no bloodshed, so there’s that. And he’s going home this evening, which will make Taz and Ziva a lot happier. It’s also further convinced me that I don’t want any dogs after ours leave this earth.
Well, it’s been a busy evening. From work straight to a nice informal sea-side cafe to say goodbye to one of the founders of the company, who’s leaving us for a new job.
Stayed there exactly half an hour, because I had to go home, get all dressed up, and go to a wedding – which was exactly 5 minutes’ drive away from the cafe… :smack:
Finally home after stuffing ourselves at the reception, and cutting loose right after the khupa and the Sheva Brakhot (the religious parts of the ceremony – after those they are considered “officially” married), but before the sit-down dineer.
Isn’t “Hispanic” sort of like “Afro-American”? (i.e., a U.S. invention of very tenuous meaning?)
Or do you mean that most of the teachers are Mexican / Central American / Latin American rather than Iberian?
::drool:: K’nafeh!! (as we call it.) Now I’m hungry! And I just got back from stuffing my face at that reception! :o
I’m working on dinner. Ok, yeah, I’m sitting here while the pre-made chicken strips and french fries bake in the oven. After that I guess we’re going to be dog-sitting again. I wouldn’t mind so much except for this is a doggie that I’m allergic to and taking any kind of allergy meds turns me into a zombie.
I think I might make a cake after dinner, though. I’ve got all the stuff I need to do it.
I just watched the movie **Excalibur **while TVMan was napping. It was a very strange movie. And kinda long, too.
And to those of you that have a federal holiday tomorrow - Enjoy!
Today has been chores day:
[ul]
[li]Scrubbed kitchen and bathroom[/li][li]Dusted[/li][li]Dry swiffered the floor[/li][li]Made frittata for a couple of days worth of breakfast[/li][li]Made dinner[/li][li]Downloaded form i-tunes about 60% of the CD’s that the movers nicked when I moved to Paris (The rest I don’t want)[/li][li]Ironed the ironing mountain[/li][li]Stripped the bed[/li][li]Sewed a button back on my light jacket for work in the morning[/li][/ul]
Productive day I think.
What I didn’t do was work on my presentation for work …oh well that is what tomorrow is for!
I’ve been busy! Folded the laundry, hung up the laundry - sheets in the dryer, folded clothes still awaiting being put away. Groceries bought and put away. Fridge cleaned out before cold stuff was put away, and shelves wiped down.
Sorted and put away all the cokes and water and juices that we bought from Sam’s yesterday. I have this island that is also a wine rack. We keep the microwave on top, and all the sodas, etc. underneath in the wine rack.
I took the doggies to the dog park yesterday, and gave them baths. I discovered a lumpy thing on Lucy. It’s probably a cyst, but it sure popped up fast! I bathe her and pet her often, I’m sure I would have noticed. It’s about two inches in diameter, but it’s very soft and doesn’t seem to hurt her. I’ll keep an eye on it.
We’re getting daily afternoon thunderstorms! W00t! It’s been so nice to have the high temps down to only 90°. Soon it will be cool again. I love fall.
I need to get up and marinate the ribeyes we’re having for dinner. Rain or shine, Rebo WILL grill. Snow slows me down a little…
We had a huge fight this morning, aka a come to Jesus talk, with intensity. I said some things I’m not proud of–my favorite (because I find it funny) was when I fired off to TH, “Yes, I’m ranting at you and I know you hate it and I’m loving ranting at you because you hate it!!!”
It all looks so very silly in print. I am seriously starting to wonder if I get some kind of “pleasure” from these (now rare) fights. The release is incredible, but draining. I feel so much better–it’s like drawing poison from a wound.
Well, because we are not on All My Children, we both calmed down and really talked. We came to terms of a sort and also understand one another’s positions better. For those of you not in the know, here’s a partial list of all that we have experienced in the past year (Sept-Sept):
oldest child going off to college
dear friend of oldest child dying suddenly
loss of job for TH
COBRA payments
FIL in hospice
FIL dying
family cat dying
me starting new job while keeping old job #1 son looking for colleges #2 son entering middle school
work up (me) for possible CA of ovaries/uterus/colon–NEGATIVE, thank god
work up (me) for cardiac issues–ongoing, echocardiogram due later this month
Seriously, it’s no wonder we’re at each other’s throats at times. I’m surprised I’m not gibbering in a corner somewhere, picking at sores on my body.
I am off to the store to purchase skim milk (he apologized for that, and for the dishes in the sink, btw). I (ftr) apologized for my part of the meltdown. We are back to being roommates. C’est la vie.
I had a lovely breakfast with a friend–I basically spewed out my stuff and then listened to her spew and a good time was had by all. Good friends really help one laugh and put perspective on things, no?
rigs sometimes a good rant then a sit down with somebody else to laugh it off are just what’s needed.
Howdy Y’all! Takin’ a pool party break. Believe it or not, I am not dkurn. Hardly buzzed even! It’s mostly been just hangin’ out and yakkin’ it up, which is nice sometimes.
We’re discussin’ the possibility of grillin’ burgers around fiveish. Guess I best get back.
It’s not an American invention at all, it’s ours. All ours. Depending on which definition of Hispano you mean, it can be people from the Americans who speak Spanish; same but speaking Spanish or Portuguese; or people all over the world who speak Spanish; or people all over the world who speak Spanish or Portuguese. In any case, we celebrate El Día de la Hispanidad, alias Día de la Raza, on October 12th. There used to be a TV program called 300 Millones under definition 3, but I understand the number would be bigger now Under definition 4, our flags decorate the Basílica del Pilar in Saragossa, because Our Lady of the Column is our patron saint due to that guy Columbus having touched land on her feastday.
I mean that a lot of the teachers have Spanish lastnames but I don’t know their nationalities. Mind you, the question works the same if they’re from Spain as if they’re from Puerto Rico.
Howdy all. Been kinda lazing today; read the paper and slept, and watched tv. In fact, I’m watching one of my favorite movies right now, “The Way we Were,” which I’ll end up crying over. Lurves me some Robert Redford though.
Big hugs for both Spaz and Rigs. I wish there were something to do or say to really help you, Rigs–you’re in my thoughts and prayers, though. Spaz hang in there - service industry is a biotch unfortunately. Only several rungs above the dreaded telemarketer jobs…bleah!
I’ve discovered that Pepperidge Farms makes 100 calorie flatbread rolls and have been trying them out for sandwiches. They’re all whole grain; I’ve been eating the 7 grain one which is pretty tasty. Just had a small tuna fish sammy and am feeling full although it didn’t seem like much of a sandwich. Heh.
One of my neighbors must have an HD tv and one of the higher-end game systems - when they get to playing the games on there, I can hear all the sound effects. Sometimes it sounds like thunder. It’s disconcerting but I guess I can live with it.
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend … and thankfully for some of us, it continues into the Labor Day holiday tomorrow! Woo hoo!
Um, I have a problem with my father and I got so upset that I puked. Unfortunately I wasn’t as quiet as I should have been and most likely grossed out TVMan’s assistant who is here right now.
The problem, in a nutshell, is that my father, although not yet divorced from my mother (they’re working on it, kind of like rigs and TH) has moved on and moved in with someone else. Unfortunately, he’s only taken ‘the best’ of things from our house and left the rest behind including enough crap to fill every room and clutter every possible exit except for 2. It makes me feel like he’s left all the crap that he doesn’t want behind (including the people still living in the house). Not only that, but since most of the stuff in the house is his, we can’t even get rid of it so we’re prisoners to his junk. Also, he pays part of the house payment so we can evict his junk either. Well, anyways, he wants me to come over tomorrow evening to his girlfriend’s house (where he lives). And I can’t do it. I honestly don’t have a problem with her. I just don’t think I can be trusted to act like a normal person. So I made up an excuse for now. I’d like to tell him the truth, but I’m not sure how to do so tactfully.
Back from Bert’s - quick but not-so-cheap supper. I just didn’t feel like cooking.
The garage isn’t all done, but it’s close. Mainly what remains is sorting the woodrack. We can park in there again, and that’s what I care about most.
Daughter just left to take her little fuzzy charge home. Wonder how long before the cats all relax? Ziva has planted herself on top of the hutch for the last 2 days. She didn’t like our little visitor. Oh well.
We’re getting a little bit of rain - mostly just sprinkles. We really need a good shower - Guess I’ll check the weather. I was hoping to hang my laundry outside tomorrow, but that may not happen. We shall see.
I finally finished the last helmet liner. Unfortunately, I have too many to fill the usual box I use to mail them. Gotta find a bigger one. Always something… They’ll be on their way to Annapolis on Tuesday. So yay. And now, I’m going to change into my robe and resume knitting the afghan. Chill time. See ya in the next MMP!
Incidentally, {{rigs}}, you’ve had more than your share of crap. Knock it off, OK??
We’re all through partyin’ at da cave. ‘Twas a fun and relaxatin’ time this afternoon. Dindin was simple. Burgers and N.O.T. sallit, followed by some ice cold watermelon. It was nummy though.
The was nothin’ to wash except the spatula used to flip burgers. I liked that.
Yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, noogies, wedgies, how you doin’s as needed.
