Perhaps she’s in foster care but is paying off the foster parents?
Also, the town is Harlan, not Hazard.
yeah - I know - east of I-75 near the bridge on Tates Creek (that passes over the Ky River).
Mags dead eldest son’s wife and children inherited the proceeds of Mags’ land-grab/payoff scheme from the coal company. That was potentially the richest part of the inheritance.
Dickey inherited the family land/marijuana business, but essentially no money. That quickly went south for him.
Loretta inherited Mags’ fat bank account, to the tune of ~$3 million. She then used a front to buy out Dickey at the beginning of this season, acquiring the Bennett land ( much to Dickey’s distress, as he would never have sold to the person that he regarded as having robbed him of part of his inheritance ).
Thanks. Do you recall how she got out of foster care?
It isn’t moving fast enough, Raylan is a loose cannon that will kill someone every few days and she can’t have both. She’s out of her mind now that this dilemma is hers, and Raylan is a bit sympathetic.
And I think Raylan is far too smart to get in a fair quick draw contest with a man that much younger.
Yeah, like it’s Raylans fault Boyds plan went to hell.
No, I don’t think it has been addressed ( could be wrong ). I suspect technically she didn’t, but given her cash reserves and the fact that she now owns her own house and plenty of acreage it is probably no more than a minor inconvenience. Just have to show up often enough to satisfy the state and meanwhile keep the foster parents well-greased so she has as much freedom as possible.
A-hem!
I wish that I hadn’t seen the preview for next week. It would have been much more suspenseful to believe for a week what tonight’s final scene implied. Really took me by surprise, although one doper saw it coming.
The Markham/Catherine relationship got a lot more interesting. I don’t think he’ll kill her, though.
::tips (hipster) hat to epbrowno1::
For better or worse, he loves the venomous Catherine. I see the two of them making two visits. One to Winn Duffy to settle accounts, the next to eliminate Loretta MacReady and somehow seize her holdings and capital, now that they’ve lost their own funding.
I can’t wait to see what happens. Wynn Duffy has been able to escape so many other tough situations with other criminal enterprises, but it is the last season so it’s also possible he could be killed. It is funny how he knew to keep on his toes when interacting with various criminals, but let his guard down too much with his own security.
I hope that Loretta makes it out alive. I think it would be a good ending to the show, with the Boyd Crowder empire ending and the Loretta Macready one starting up.
…and I wish that I hadn’t read your post so I could still wonder about that final scene.
Wynn ratted on Grady. He didn’t kill Grady or the (assistant?) US attorney. And he isn’t quite done yet. I would be very unsurprised if Mickey doesn’t turn his back and Duffy picks the lock and flees.
As for Boone (or whatever the idiot gunsel’s name is), he killed Loretta’s great aunt. Loretta is going to kill him.
So Ava shot Boyd, and Raylan didn’t try to draw on her with a gun pointed at him.
What fun.
Yeah, if I had known that it was the final scene I wouldn’t have waited just to see the closing credits/teaser. Sorry it was spoiled for you.
Really, there wasn’t that much to wonder about. He was hit practically at his collarbone, way above the heart. If Raylan’s shot in the first season didn’t kill him, there’s no chance this one did.
I don’t understand why he cheerfully forked over ten million for her, right after Raylan “proved” to him that she was betraying him with Boyd (scare quotes because he wouldn’t have known that it was actually Duffy who was suborned). Even knowing more than Markham did about what was going on, I first assumed that Boyd was only pretending to kidnap her, and I don’t see why Markham wouldn’t have assumed the same. He’s been around the block too many times to be blinded by love.
I can see Markham and Catherine living a long life together, each knowing who the other is, so there’s a little distrust and a lot of respect. And I can see them parting ways, each with an ample sum. Markham’s going to lose the battle over Harlan, so he may as well cede it to Loretta, go his own way and take Catherine along with him before Raylan gets in his shit.
I don’t understand the cafe harassment. What’s going on with that psycho?
Raylan’s body count is disappointing this season thus far.
I think you answered your own question – he’s a psycho. It reminded me of Chigurh’s coin flipping scene in No Country For Old Men, as the guy and his girlfriend gradually realized that he wasn’t just an asshole, he was a very dangerous asshole.
