This has taken the shine off it for me. Boyd seems to be running the Gang that couldn’t Shoot Straight. I want to see some competence in my fictional criminal gangs.
This kinda what ruined Sons of Anarchy for me. Everything they touch turns immediately to shit.
Might depend on the value of the truck: if the cops can get a fair amount by selling it, they’ll simply bury the bodies and keep quiet. If, on the other hand, they can’t get much, they’ll find it more productive to “work the case” and get whatever credit to their careers they can by so doing.
There have to be a lot of fingerprints on that truck; I can’t imagine that the guys in the back had time to wipe everything down. So the cops could ‘work that’ for a while.
Kind of a ‘move the story along’ episode. No really cool Raylan or Boyd moments, just moving the pieces for next week, which I think will be kick-ass. Classic Boyd move, putting the drugs in the car and using the truck to cart the bodies, while also acting as a decoy of sorts. If folks are traveling in a car and a truck while smuggling drugs, you have to think the truck has the goods.
BTW, that’s the biggest thing missing from this season: Raylan/Boyd interactions. Shit, that MAKES the show, and I don’t recall any of those this year. If they know what the hell they’re doing, they’ll remedy that next year in the final season, in spades. The last season HAS to be Boyd & Raylan either facing each other down or throwing down against a common enemy - or both. I kind of hope they go up against someone else, as I love the whole frenemies dynamic they have going on.
Also, I’m not digging the Ava prison storyline with Patty the Daytime Hooker. It just takes time away from Boyd & Raylan.
Graham Yost talked about that this week. Apparently the guy that played the Haitian was unhappy with his role, and asked to leave the show earlier than planned, which left a hole in the season, which led to this episode being set up to fill the gap. I’m amazed how fluid each season is, with major developments being made up as they go along and having it all work out so well.
Yeah I’m noticing that too. The way the stories have happened this year, they could be completely unrelated and filmed without the characters even knowing each other since the characters aren’t really even crossing paths. Ava in prison - stand alone story; Boyd getting his drugs - stand alone story; Raylan doing his thing - more or less a stand alone story.
I’m not sure what they’re going for. With only one more season planned; I don’t like the way they’re showing Raylan ‘Breaking Bad.’ He clearly got the ‘radio call in’ money by questionable means. He kind of redeemed himself by giving it to the kid; but still. He’s pissed off Art so bad it’ll take some doing to restore any kind of faith. He’s ignoring his own kid. Although I did think it was funny that he wanted to take Allison (Amy Smart) to Florida with him. I thought to myself that Amy Smart is a good lookin’ woman; but I’d pick Natalie Zea as Winona ANY DAY.
Maybe not a lot of humor sprinkled throughout, but one line made me laugh out loud. When Dewey was complaining that if they were caught with the bodies they’d be in trouble, Daryl said, “That won’t be a problem - we’ll just hide them under all the HEROIN.”
so - am I right - that Boyd and crew let the ‘friends’ of Daryl just drive off with the heroin, knowing its a trap?
I didn’t mind the adventure with Wendy, or the reveal that Kendal was her son - it was obvious that Raylan was not headed to Florida, etc.
But how do you explain to Art that, while on vacation and without backup - that Raylan did what Raylan did? “oh, I just happened to be there at the right time to negotiate a kidnapping and take down two fugitives?”
Love the show - but there are times its rather dexterous in plausibility…
Nice to see her get a role where she can show her chops.
And I’d pick Alicia Witt (Wendy) over either. Or any other person Alicia has been on camera with. Now Wendy is so much trouble that I might pass on that, but it is a close thing.
Looks that way. Also, I don’t understand why Daryl didn’t just drive off without Boyd, since he now had the drugs, and Boyd didn’t have a car, or any money (the cop took it all), and will have both the police and Yoon’s gang out to kill him as soon as the bodies are found in the truck. Sounds like a much better solution than waiting till they get back to Boyd’s home turf, even if he doesn’t realize that Boyd already knows about the double cross.
While I’m at it, where does Boyd keep getting the money for drugs? He sold the whorehouse. I thought that the Canadians took the last of his money. Then he somehow has another buy set up, but his shipment is hijacked, so he should be out of money by then for sure. Then he says he’s giving a bunch of money to the family of the guy he hired to kill the sheriff. And then he has enough money to buy a huge shipment from the Mexicans.
And while I’m still at it, how did Willam Forsythe (who has been my favorite character actor since the old Untouchables series) keep finding Jack? Not only did he beat Raylan to the mall and somehow find Jack at a random spot in a huge parking lot, but he showed up at the bar five states away from where Jack beat up his son, just a couple of hours behind Jack.
I am still surprised at the anticlimactic death of Johnny. He was an important character since the first season and as Boyd pointed out, his last remaining blood relative.
Anticlimactic, but he had to die right there. There’s a whole pile of dead bodies to transport, do you want one live enemy to carry at the same time?
I am thinking that everyone assumes the cops will disappear the bodies. Mexican cops don’t want a pile of dead Americans found any more than the drug cartel (if the cops are indeed a separate entity).
I thought it was brilliant that it was just a throw-away, unexpected at that time.
I agree, there’s a lot of subplots, I hope they get sort of wound together. And then everytime we turn around, there’s ANOTHER subplot (like this one with Jack and Kendel.) Gets confusing. I’m thinking we may DVR the rest of the season and binge on them, rather than wait a week (and so forget details.)
