As others have mentioned, getting into a debate with **kanicbird **seems to be a Rite of Passage here on the Dope. Many of us have done it, under the illusion that we can reason our way with him, present some kind of airtight logical argument that will finally get through to him. And all of us have met up with a brick wall that allows no logic. Yes I know, we have all been made to think that if you can just find the most logical, rational, reasonable argument you can persuade any opponent of anything. But whoever told you that never debated with kanicbird. Rational arguments just roll off him like water off a duck’s back.

It’s a bit word salad, but if I squint at it sideways he seems to be saying that placebos work and that’s cool - stop looking for causitive cures and learn to love all palcebos. Cause causitive cures aren’t as much fun. The cure of the placebo comes from within us, which is much cooler. Placebo cures show that we’re cool.

To which most of us would add:

“Yeah, they’re cool when they work. And I’m cool anyway. So give me a therapy that works even if I don’t love it. I’ll spend my time and love on something else.”

But let’s not take “thought experiment” too seriously. if it were actually to be **tried on this board **any such individual could easily be up for a charge of trollery, since they were not being honest about positions implied by their post or posts. I’m guessing that that would be true even if they revealed their game promptly.

And besides, though kanicbird hasn’t responded to this thread, it’s likely that he has read it, and would be tipped off.

So let’s frame it diiferently. Suppose someone spontaneously tried this IRL. How do you suppose that would play out?

Despite the offensiveness of kanicbird’s words, I just have a hard time getting myself worked up about him. The guy is a freaking crazy person. It’s like having an argument with the guy on the streetcorner with a sandwich board saying that 9/11 was perpetrated by Venusians and that everyone in Sweden is a vampire.
