PepperlandGirl,
This thread got real mean real fast. Must be the end of the season. May I suggest a subject line change to - “NFL - Season End Rants”
On second thought, leave the name the way it is. After the Chiefs win the superbowl the thread will still be useful for all the NFL crybabies to stop in an whine about the Chiefs not deserving, bad calls, injuries preventing their team from winning, etc.
I see the trolls have moved in.Your favorite team sucks, I can make a funny name out of your team’s name, your teams fans are fickle, don’t know football, you are poor losers, etc. I’ve spent years on a Vikings board frequented by Packer fans, I’ve heard it all. Yawn.
See the bitterness? Any one follow a team that went 0-4 in the Super Bowl? Any one lose a playoff game 41-0? Anyone follow a team that loses at home because the kicker misses the only field goal of the year at home in overtime during the NFC title game?
Oh yeah, anyone own stock and therefore gets an invitation to the home stadium every year to vote on who runs the joint? I can say my team, Viqueens can say “the team I follow till McCombs moves them to San Antonio or L.A.”
“I hated the Bears, till I met the bitter Viqueens fan.”
I think you mistook boredness for bitterness, Seeking. But from your own anti-Viking sentiment, I can only assume you are either a Packers fan or a member of the Twin Cities media.
Who’s to say I’m not a Bears or Lions fan? What says I’m an NFC fan? I heard this talk during the Chargers/Raiders 2 week stretch. It’s tired, and you started by saying the Vikings were the the team to talk about. If you’re going to claim your team in a post, back it up and tell us how they’ll beat the Chiefs.
Nothing personal, but I hear this shit so often up here, it gets boring
I was mostly joking in my first post in this thread, still a little high on a (rare) victory. But given that the Vikes-Chiefs game is an evening game, in Minneapolis, on a Saturday, the crowd will be loud and pretty well potted. The Chiefs won’t have as much to play for, having wrapped up HFA, while the Vikings are just trying to get into the playoffs. The Vikings have a good core of runners, and the Cheifs aren’t the best at stopping the run. The Vikings have had pretty good success in terms of turnovers, and being +1 or +2 could keep them in the game.
On the other hand, the Vikings could stink on ice and lose by 40 points. We never know which team will show up – the Vikings or the Viqueens. That’s what makes it fun to watch.
Ok, eli, I give you pass for the beer dumped on my 8-year-old nephew, assuming you aren’t that kind of fan. I won’t hold that against you. Good luck you your team, you are a rare Viking fan. For you, I won’t write “Viqueen” again. Unless someone asks for it.
I just have to point out that Kansas Chity has played a very weak schedule, much weaker than the Patriots, Colts or Titans. From the Sagarin ratings at USA Today -
Team W L SoS Rank
1 Indianapolis Colts 10 3 21.58 (5)
2 New England Patriots 11 2 21.83 (4)
3 Kansas City Chiefs 11 2 18.68 (26)
4 Tennessee Titans 9 4 20.88 (10)
5 Philadelphia Eagles 10 3 19.78 (18)
which is based on record and the strength of schedule (or just how good are your opponents) and a few other factors you can see that KC has had an easy path to that 11-2 record.
Even though I’m a Colt fan I still think NE is the best team right now, far and away (though we almost put up 41 points on them 2 weeks ago).
Know which two teams have had the easiest schedule?
With big time offensive talent like Olandis Gary, Shawn Bryson, Eddie Drummond, David Kircus, Artose Pinner and Joey Harrington we should be living in the basement.
But there are actually at least 8 other teams in the league as bad or worse than us! (For those of you out there who ignore losers Detroit has been the worst team in football for the last two years 2-14-0 in 2001 and 3-13-0 in 2002)
Hey, when you are a Detroit fan you got to get excited by this stuff.
TENN (home)
INDY (road)
PHI (road. spanked)
DEN (road)
MIAMI (road)
MIAMI (home. shut out)
DALL (home. shut out)
Basically 7 wins against playoff teams.
Now, they’ve had their doubtful moments with road losses at WASH and BUFF, and a close one at HOU. But, they’ve still been a cut more impressive than KC (with squeaker against OAK at home), TENN and INDY, particularly considering those losses were both early season road games to teams who were playing well at the time and the PATS had tons of injuries.
Man, Degrance. I have to admire anyone who stands by that squad.
Thanks for the props, Seeking. Sorry about the beer thing. Considering the cost of beer at the Metrodome, it was a mistake.
Seriously, I have been more than embarassed by the behavior of my fellow fans at Vikings games and at Twins games. I think there are a few bad apples at every stadium, and we definitely have more than our share. Gophers/Badgers games are much better for friendly rivalry as opposed to nastiness, but that might just be because they start so early, no one is properly soused.
What would it take for the Steelers to go from 5-8 to Division Champions? Hmmm…let’s find out:
Baltimore would have to lose all of their remaining games, vs. Oakland and Cleveland (both away games- hey, it could happen), and then get beat by the Steelers in Baltimore in the finale. After Week 1’s thrashing of the Ravens and with the demise of Chad Scott this year, it could happen. But wait, there’s more:
2)Cincinnatti would have to lose two of their last three games, one away against the Rams, and two at home against the 49ers and the Brownies. If they were to lose two of three, one of which must be the Brownies, Pittsburgh would hold the tiebreaker by virtue of best division record.
Pittsburgh would have to run the table, at the Ravens in Baltimore on the last week of the season, and prior to that showdown beat the Jets in New York (OK, Jersey, but who’s counting?) and the Chargers at home.
Only a crazy man would take that bet, especially with the Steelers playing worse football than the JV team at Stevie Wonder’s Driving School. But you never know.
What a wacky season this has turned out to be. The mere fact that I can calculate this with a straight face at 5-8 and honestly think that it might happen is startling.
**BWWAAAAHHHHHHAAAAHHHHHAAAAHHHHHAAAA - Back Atcha
31-3 !?!?!?**
The fourth quarter was the funniest thing this week.
…And to all the ViQueen lovers - Your teem lost to the semi-pro Cardinals. There is NO excuse for that. You could win the super bowl and still get no respect if you lose any game to the Cardinals.
Let me be the first to state the obvious: the Broncos rested many of their starters. Including one of the best RB’s in the league, one of the best TE’s and a QB that makes the offense better. Denver had nothing to play for.
By the way, the Vikings kill KC then lose to Arizona?? The Chiefs sure don’t seem like the team they were to start the season. In fact I think they are a way overrated #2 seed.
But lets just see who goes further in the play-offs eh Bubba?
The Broncos Bubba. The “Amazing Orange Crush”, you know - the team that ran your defense off the field a few weeks back? The Denver Bronocs will go further than the Chefs. (Yes I meant that misspelling.)
I’m going to assume you didn’t watch the game, so you had no way of knowing that over half of the Bronco’s offense sat the game out. Wow, the Packers who were playing to get into the playoffs with all their starters beat a team full of second-stringers who didn’t need the win.
Impressive.
It looks like we’re going to meet the Chiefs after we kill the Colts again…It’s going to come down to who has the most dominant offense. Considering the fact the Broncos can shut down Holmes, and the Chiefs defense can’t stop Portis, I think it’s clear who will win…
Hee! Yes it is.
It’s too bad there are so few people with decent taste on this board…
To be fair, even the backups are better than any of us, and make more money in a year than most of us could ever hope to see. Broncos played 2nd stringers? I won’t give up a Packer win over that. I hate that so many write-ups I’ve seen are excusing the win. What?!? Shannahan started the team he thought would be best, Denver didn’t really have anything to play for, they were N.5 seed no matter what. It would be stupid to put your playoff players in a meaningless game. Just made it easier for the Packers. Should I feel bad about this? Well, after I buy my NFC North champion gear, I’ll think about it.
